TUDORS VS CHIPPENHAM

Hemel Hempstead Town 3 Chippenham Town 1

Match report by Allan Mitchell

Hemel ran out comfortable winners despite playing the last half an hour with ten men after the influential Ismail Yakubu was somewhat harshly sent off in the second half.

The home side took the lead after just 3 minutes when Karl Oliyide drove down the left hand side before cutting the ball back to David Moyo who was left with a tap in from six yards.

Manager Dean Brennan will be relieved that Moyo has fully recovered from the injury he suffered in pre-season and he appears to have set up an excellent partnership with the newly arrived Oliyide, which will bode well for the final run in.

Scott Shulton, playing in a more forward role could have had a hatrick after 20 minutes but was denied by some good goalkeeping and the inside of the post, his firmly hit shot smashing against the woodwork and bouncing out. David Moyo also hit the frame of the goal from a very tight angle before the Tudors finally extended their lead on 42 minutes. Shulton received the ball out wide and he raced down the line before laying the ball back to Oliyide on the edge of the box and he slammed the ball home, leaving Chippenham keeper Jared Thompson no chance.

The second half saw Hemel remain in control, though Chippenham did almost find themselves back in the game when a header from Jake Jackson looped over Walker and bounced off the top of the bar.

Yakubu received his red card on the hour mark, after he was adjudged to have pulled Andy Sandall back, though Sandall appeared to have fouled the Hemel man first. The Chippenham midfielder fell as both were battling for the ball and it looked very much a 50/50 challenge but the referee felt Yakubu had deliberately prevented a goalscoring opportunity and sent the unfortunate Hemel player off. Chippenham wasted the resulting freekick, the ball hitting the wall and off for a corner. Tudors fans were checking their watches to see how long they would have to play with ten men but the fears were eased from the same corner kick. As it came in it was cleared and the in form David Moyo was on to the loose ball in a flash, he raced down the other end before tucking the ball past Thompson for his second of the match and his sixth in the last eight. More importantly it gave the Tudors a three goal cushion to defend.

The visitors just couldn’t get a foothold in the game but were given a great opportunity after 70 minutes when Shulton tripped Sandall in the box. Sandall was having quite an influence on the game, for all the wrong reasons in The Tudors fans eyes and he now had a chance to reduce the deficit. He stepped up and hit his penalty to Laurie Walkers right but the Tudors stopper guessed correctly and saved superbly, pushing the ball away for a corner.

The Referee found an extra 5 minutes from somewhere so Tom Hamblin came on to shore things up at the back for the home side and they looked comfortable despite a late consolation from Dean Evans, who took advantage of a rare lapse by Walker who couldn’t quite gather a cross and dropped it invitingly to Evans who turned and drove home via a deflection.

Hemel now move into 5th place with the play offs still very much in their own hands and a very important “six pointer” down in Kent on Tuesday night against fellow promotion rivals Welling United to look forward to.

Match report by Robert Males

Hemel travelled to Welling United on Tuesday evening for a game of vital importance to both teams in the chase for a playoff position.

Hemel started brightly and enjoyed good possession during the first half but there was little in the way of clear- cut chances on goal.

In what was always going to be a tense game, some hard challenges were being made by both teams which resulted in a number of bookings but halftime arrived with Hemel well in control but with nothing to show for it.

The home-side improved considerably in the second half but could only muster a couple of half-chances although they did manage to get the ball into the net but the Welling player was adjudged to be offside.

Sanchez Watt came on as a second-half substitute and gave the match an injection of pace and skill but Hemel was still unable to test the Welling goalkeeper. With minutes to go, Kyle Connolly picked up a second yellow card and was sent from the pitch but Hemel held on for the last few minutes for what may turn out to be an important draw in the battle for a playoff positon.

League Cup Quarter-Final

8/4/18

The ladies travelled to Hackney again but this time it was for the quarter-final of the league cup. The first half saw Hemel dominate possession, the ladies created chances with McCay and McConville coming close. Despite the one way traffic from the away side, they were unable to break the Hackney defence and the first half ended goal-less. Back out for the second half and it took Hemel less than 10 minutes to go ahead. McConville played a looped through ball to Richardson who found herself one on one with the Hackney goalkeeper and calmly headed home to put the ladies one nil up. Hemel continued to apply pressure and were rewarded with a second. An attack from Gover down the right hand side saw her swing the ball into the box where McCay volleyed in from short range. Despite a quiet game for the Hemel defence, they were unable to deal with a break down the right hand side, Hackney took advantage of this and pulled back a goal to make it 2-1 to Hemel with 20 minutes to go. The Hackney goal unsettled the ladies and a very scrappy 15 minutes followed, Cripps went close for Hemel with a header however Hackney looked more likely to score. The final kick of the game saw Richardson take advantage of a poor back pass and slot home to confirm the ladies place in the semi-final of the cup. An outstanding performance by all of the ladies in the very wet and muddy conditions.

1 GOLD AND 1 SILVER Congratulations to Max Whitlock, Hemel Hempstead born and raised, On winning Gold and Silver medals at the Commonwealth Games 2018. KYLE HITS 200 FOR THE TUDORS

Popular Tudors defender Kyle Connolly played his 200th game for Hemel Hempstead Town FC on Saturday. the Tudors Supporters Club were proud to mark the occasion in association with the football club.

Kyle’s first role at Hemel was as an unused sub in our Herts Charity Cup tie versus St Albans City in August 2013, the opening game that season; a fortnight later he made his debut in a 2-1 win at home to Hungerford, and went on to make 46 appearances in all competitions as The Tudors won the Southern League Premier Division.

Kyle was a key part of the Tudors side in our first season at the current level, the Conference South as it was then, and scored his first Hemel goal in that 2015/16 season – a worldy of a deft volley two minutes in to stoppage time as Hemel won 3-1 at home to Chelmsford on 17th March.

On 30th January 2016, Kyle’s 2016/17 season was interrupted with a nasty facial injury sustained in competitive 5-5 draw at home to Weston Super Mare, however he still finished that game and despite a lengthy lay off he returned to the team in April, ahead of schedule. Kyle also became the longest serving member of the squad that season, which he remains to this day (Jordan Parkes has played more games for The Tudors but this has been over two spells).

Kyle patiently waited his opportunity to impact Hemel’s season during the opening stages of this 2017/18 campaign, but once he returned to the line up he produced three consecutive Man of the Match performances and was voted the Tudors Supporters Club’s Player or the Month for September.

Kyle was presented with a commemorative Tudors shirt marking his 200th appearance by Sir Mike Penning, ahead of our home win against Chippenham last weekend. Thanks to Hemel FC Chairman Dave Boggins and TSC committee member Danny Green for facilitating and arranging the commemorative shirt and subsequent presentation.
