Traditional Use of Indigenous Plants in Betul District of Madhya Pradesh to Cure Diarrhoea and Dysentery
Environment Conservation Journal 11(3) 19-22, 2010 (ISSN 0972-3099) Abstracted and Indexed Traditional use of indigenous plants in Betul district of Madhya Pradesh to cure Diarrhoea and Dysentery Sapan Patel Received: 16-04-2010 Revised: 18-05-2010 Accepted: 17-09-2010 Abstract A survey of medicinal plants of different rural and forest area of Betul district was conducted. It was found that the drug preparation of plant origin is commonly used by tribal local inhabitants and folk practitioners for the treatment of diarrhoea and dysentery disease. About 7 plant species belonging to 6 families are described along with the method of drug preparation, mode of administration, probable doses and duration of treatment. The aim to study is not only to prescribe the remedies for disease in human beings but also an endeavour to draw attention for the need of a detailed study on medicinal plants of the area, which could provide better and efficient remedies for diarrhoea, dysentery and many other dreadful diseases. The paper enumerates the traditional uses of more than 50 plants used by tribes inhibiting the Betul district. Information on the medicinal and other traditional uses gathered from the tribal together with their botanical identity is presented. The indigenous traditional knowledge of medicinal plants of various ethnic communities, where it has been transmitted orally for centuries is fast disappearing from the face of earth due to advent of modern technology and transformation of traditional culture. The collection of information about natural flora, classification, management and use of plants by the people holds importance among the Ethno botanists. -

Government of India Ministry of Earth Sciences India Meteorological Department Regional Weather Forecasting Centre Nagpur REGIONAL WEEKLY WEATHER REPORT 12 - 18 JULY 2018 SIGNIFICANT WEATHER FEATURES Monsoon Activity • A low pressure area formed over the North-West Bay of Bengal in the beginning of the week and has moved westnorthwestwards across the central parts of the country. A mid troposphere cyclonic circulation lay over Gujarat and neighbourhood throughout the week. The monsoon trough had been very active and has remained south of its normal position tilting southwards with height on many days during the week. Under the influence of these systems, intense rainfall activity has been observed over central India and along the west coast. • Southwest monsoon had been vigorous over Saurashtra & Kutch for three days and over Kerala and Odisha on one day each. It had been active over Gujarat Region and South Interior Karnataka and Madhya Maharashtra on most of the days; over Chhattisgarh, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Saurashtra & Kutch, Odisha and Vidarbha on three to four days;over Telangana, Marathwada, Haryana, Chandigarh & Delhi, Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, East Rajasthan, Uttarakhand and Konkan & Goa on one or two days during the week. Heavy Rainfall Activity • Heavy to very heavy rain with extremely heavy falls at one or two places had been reported from Gujarat Region and Saurashtra & Kutch on four days each, from Odisha, Konkan & Goa, Madhya Maharashtra and Kerala on one or two days each during the week. • Heavy to Very heavy rain had been reported from South Interior Karnataka on five days, from Konkan & Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, East and West Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat Region on three to four days, from Kerala, East Rajasthan and East Uttar Pradesh on two days each and from Saurashtra & Kutch, Uttarakhand, West Uttar Pradesh, Chattisgargh, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Vidarbha, Odisha and Chattisgarh on one day each during the week. -

Dr. D.S. Saluja Professor, Department of Chemistry, J. H. Govt. College, Betul (M.P.), India Abstract: Tapti, a holy river is the key source for drinking, domestic and irrigation purpose in Madhya Pradesh. In the present study water samples of Tapti River from Multai have been studied physico-chemically to evaluate its suitability for drinking, domestic and irrigation purpose in the month of Jul., Aug. and Sept-2019. Monthly variation in important parameters taken into consideration as Temperature, Turbidity, pH, Specific Conductivity, Total Alkalinity, Total Hardness, Calcium Hardness, Magnesium Hardness, Total Dissolved solids, Suspended Solids, Chlorides, Nitrates, DO, BOD, and COD were determined. These physico-chemical parameters were determined as per standard methods of APHA (2012). Results revealed that Tapti River water quality is suitable and safe for domestic and irrigation purposes.
