Recipient: John Glen MP, Wiltshire County Council, Jane. Scott OBE, Andrew Davis, and Fred Westmoreland Letter: Greetings, Stop the proposed housing development on Old Sarum Airfield Comments Name Location Date Comment Alison Hoskins Shaftesbury, United 2014-10-14 Because the site is special. Kingdom Cathy Sealey Salisbury, United 2014-10-14 I'm signing as I am against the building of new houses in a conservation area. Kingdom Ford is at risk of further flooding and cannot support the increase in traffic. Old Sarum Airfield has great historical significance and would be forced to close due to being so near an unnecessary housing estate. Melanie Daniels Salisbury, United 2014-10-14 Please rethink building here. The surrounding area frames Old Sarum perfectly Kingdom and is a sight of outstanding flora and fauna. Please leave this sight as a place for people to enjoy naturally without buildings, cafés etc which are supposed to make this area more enjoyable. Emily Foster Deepcut, United 2014-10-14 I grew up living in Ford and think it is absolutely ridiculous to develop on the Kingdom airfield. The views will be spoilt, the wildlife will be destroyed and the peace will go. There is no need to build new houses when there are so many not lived in elsewhere! Jacqueline Dinnage Christchurch, United 2014-10-14 Because the countryside there is too beautiful to ruin Kingdom Sue Macleod Macleod Petworth, United 2014-10-14 The proposed development will ruin the lives of those living in the area and it is Kingdom extremely sad for 470 houses to be built on land which is sacred Christopher Coombs Winnipeg, Canada 2014-10-15 Being a former resident of Salisbury, it upsets me to see so much destruction of the green space in and around Salisbury. In particular this historic airfield should be kept as a living memory to those who sacrificed so much for what we have today. Despite leaving Salisbury in the 70's it is still my birthplace which holds dear to me. Mark Foster Amesbury, United 2014-10-15 I support the cause Kingdom Alex Smith Compton, United 2014-10-15 It should not be built on! It makes no sense Kingdom Andrew Sealey Peat Inn, Fife, United 2014-10-15 This is an important historical area and the importance of protecting it has Kingdom already been agreed in the core policy. Joe Renshaw Laverstock, United 2014-10-15 Im against new houses being built in a conservation area! Kingdom Roger Hutcheson Salisbury, United 2014-10-15 This is NOT a "Nimby" objection. I have several concerns: (1) Ford Lane - a Kingdom narrow Roman Road is already congested and dangerous for pedestrians and other road users. (2) The importance of the whole site as a conservation area is critical - once the existing boundaries are eroded, where does it end? I have many other concerns - these will be aired at a later date. Diane Wood Yeovil, United Kingdom 2014-10-16 I grew up near Old Sarum. There are better places to build houses than in beautiful historical countryside like this. Anne George Salisbury, United 2014-10-18 It was a very important WW1 airfield, and as such should be preserved in Kingdom honour of those brave men, not plundered for individual's gain. As a local and walker I recognise that it is an area supporting many species including the orange tip and ringlet butterfies in Summer and is part of a deminishing green corridor that leads across to the Woodfords. Ford is already very much under pressure from the new huge development at HP2 and Old Sarum Gardens and will lose any sense of being the quiet semi-rural place it was until 18 months ago. Name Location Date Comment Dave George Ford, United Kingdom 2014-10-18 Loss of wildlife habitat and local amenity. Jon Hennessy Dorset, United Kingdom 2014-10-19 Protect countryside Stephen Mead Cholderton Salisbury, 2014-10-19 It seems like a ridiculous proposal, Airfields are build in areas without housing United Kingdom for obvious reasons and to put houses adjacent to the site means something has to go and I think that would probably be an important and historic amenity - The airfield. Why not build the houses at the end of the runway at Boscombe down? obviously not a good idea. David Bennett Salisbury, United 2014-10-21 Range user. Kingdom Carolyn Daniels Salisbury, United 2014-10-21 How sad it would be to lose one of the only historical grass airfields in the Kingdom country and, of course, the delightful wildlife that will also be lost. There is also the concern of flooding in the area - last year the Roman Road was closed for weeks because it became a lake with all the rain and the farm near to the airfield was also like a lake with all the animals having to be moved to higher ground. I think it would be disastrous to go ahead with the build. Marc Fogerty Amesbury, United 2014-10-21 I visit Old Sarum airfield with my family, my three year old son loves to watch Kingdom the aircraft and parachutists while enjoying a bite to eat from the cafe. My connection to the airfield goes back to the mid 80s when I was a cadet with 1010 (Salisbury) Squadron Air Training Corps and then later as a Trooper in B Squadron, Royal Wessex Yeomanry. The airfield is an important link in the military aviation history of the area even more so now with the presence of the Boscombe Down Aviation Collection on site. It would be awful to see it developed into even more souless housing. claire kellow Salisbury, United 2014-10-21 Old sarum should be left how it is, its important to the local people. Kingdom Cate McCormack Salisbury, United 2014-10-21 This important piece of historical grassland is not the place to build more new Kingdom houses. helen johns salisbury, United 2014-10-21 It's outrageous that this be allowed, taking away our beautiful countryside and Kingdom swapping us in a massive housing development stretching from bishop down to old Sarum. The road through Ford and London and Castle road can not cope with the traffic already - it will be awful! PAUL JOHNS SALISBURY, United 2014-10-21 Salisbury's road structure can not cope with the additional traffic and Ford Kingdom seems to be on the developers hit list !!! Lisa Porter Salisbury, United 2014-10-22 The airfield is such a beautiful place to visit And would be an awful shame if it Kingdom was destroyed for houses Emma Graham Portsmouth, United 2014-10-22 Because i always come to visit this airfield and it should stay!! Kingdom Laurence Stimpson United Kingdom 2014-10-22 Airline pilot who first learnt to fly here keep it open! alex tucker Salisbury, United 2014-10-22 Overcrowding, flooding, narrow roads, unsuitable Kingdom Gerard Parsons Salisbury, United 2014-10-23 to protect this historic airfield Kingdom Jane Beaumont Salisbury, United 2014-10-23 Not EVERY beautiful stretch of land has to be deemed suitable for an housing Kingdom estate. Please....no more....not there. Victoria Badham- Shrewton, Salisbury, 2014-10-23 This is a beautiful part of the country surrounding Salisbury which has already Thornhill United Kingdom been spoilt by a vast and ugly housing estate marring the bucolic view from Old Sarum. Surely Salisbury has more than its fair share of inappropriate housing developments. Name Location Date Comment Derek McLean Wilton, United Kingdom 2014-10-23 I wish to comment on this aspect of our inadequate road infrastructure by and stating that 'improvements to the highway network that are required to prevent congestion on Castle Road' must be extended to account for all new buildings within a 6 to 8 mile radius of the city centre and must include, at the very least, an outer ring road that will divert all through traffic presently approaching within six miles of Salisbury along the following roads: A354, A3094/A338, A36, A30, A360 and A345. If one considers the Continent immediately to the East of this island, Cathedral cities similar to Salisbury mostly enjoy outer ring roads for through traffic with an inner ring for local traffic. Not a few also enjoy tunnelled access from at least two points on the outer ring to multi story underground car parks beneath the city centre, usually a cobbled, open area/outdoor market place. This is real sustainability! In this country the 's' word is used involuntarily, rather like some people invariably use swear words, and to no effect. Without such major investment every new dwelling brings only more congestion/frustration and, in turn, less visitors. Edd Stanton Bristol, United Kingdom 2014-10-23 Because I live so close and will be directly and negatively affected. Averil Lipton Salisbury, United 2014-10-23 We do not have the infrastructure to cope with any more development. Also we Kingdom do not want to see an eyesore from historic old Sarum. E James-Park Ford Salisbury, United 2014-10-25 That the village of Ford and the surrounding area is not ruined forever by this Kingdom development. The village road cannot cope with the volume of traffic and the enviromental damage caused will affect the existing Ford houses especially those towards the river. A Park Ford Salisbury, United 2014-10-25 That the village of Ford and the surrounding environment and the significant Kingdom conservation areas are not lost forever for future generation. Marta Baker <artock, United 2014-10-25 Historical importance Kingdom Julian Newman Ford, United Kingdom 2014-10-26 It is disgraceful to suggest that a development of this size could even be considered on an area a national historical importance.
