This part of the series and Jump take place after the start of the main timeline and GXP. The story takes place in the world of Germinar, and you no longer need to worry about multiversal goddesses, planet-busting trees, and other such things for your stay. Following Masaki Tenchi's half-brother Masaki Kenshi, this story would normally start with the attack on the Swan (a flying landship), but it now starts with the arrival of Kenshi at the Summoning Ruins still not long before. This world is bathed in high levels of a relatively nondescript energy. This prevents nearly all technology from working above a certain altitude in addition to making others extremely sick, eventually to the point of death, should they stay in these areas. Even the pilots of this world's holy mecha cannot enter these areas or they both will shutdown. This has lead to the higher lands being covered in mostly normal flora and the occasional super flora. The people of this world have coped with this by building their cities lower than the effected areas and carving out valleys for travel. Complexity in the Comic and Graphic Novel Medium: Inquiry Through Bestselling Batman Stories PAUL A. CRUTCHER DAPTATIONS OF GRAPHIC NOVELS AND COMICS FOR MAJOR MOTION pictures, TV programs, and video games in just the last five Ayears are certainly compelling, and include the X-Men, Wol- verine, Hulk, Punisher, Iron Man, Spiderman, Batman, Superman, Watchmen, 300, 30 Days of Night, Wanted, The Surrogates, Kick-Ass, The Losers, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, and more. Nevertheless, how many of the people consuming those products would visit a comic book shop, understand comics and graphic novels as sophisticated, see them as valid and significant for serious criticism and scholarship, or prefer or appreciate the medium over these film, TV, and game adaptations? Similarly, in what ways is the medium complex according to its ad- vocates, and in what ways do we see that complexity in Batman graphic novels? “INFINITE EARTHS”: CROSSMEDIA ADAPTATION AND THE DEVELOPMENT OF CONTINUITY IN THE DC ANIMATED UNIVERSE Alex Nader A Thesis Submitted to the Graduate College of Bowling Green State University in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of MASTER OF ARTS May 2015 Committee: Jeff Brown, Advisor Becca Cragin © 2015 Alexander Nader All Rights Reserved iii ABSTRACT Jeff Brown, Advisor This thesis examines the process of adapting comic book properties into other visual media. I focus on the DC Animated Universe, the popular adaptation of DC Comics characters and concepts into all-ages programming. This adapted universe started with Batman: The Animated Series and comprised several shows on multiple networks, all of which fit into a shared universe based on their comic book counterparts. The adaptation of these properties is heavily reliant to intertextuality across DC Comics media. The shared universe developed within the television medium acted as an early example of comic book media adapting the idea of shared universes, a process that has been replicated with extreme financial success by DC and Marvel (in various stages of fruition). I address the process of adapting DC Comics properties in television, dividing it into “strict” or “loose” adaptations, as well as derivative adaptations that add new material to the comic book canon. This process was initially slow, exploding after the first series (Batman: The Animated Series) changed networks and Saturday morning cartoons flourished, allowing for more opportunities for producers to create content. References, crossover episodes, and the later series Justice League Unlimited allowed producers to utilize this shared universe to develop otherwise impossible adaptations that often became lasting additions to DC Comics publishing. -

Oh, and if it’s in Black… it’s probably cut and pasted from a wiki. The continent of Ignas, in the northern hemisphere of our world. On this, the largest continent, a war has been raging between two countries for hundreds of years. In the north lies the Kislev Empire, in the south lies the desert kingdom of Aveh. The war has gone on for so long that people have forgotten the cause, knowing only the pointless cycle of hostility and tragedy. This chronic war obsession was soon to encounter a devastating change, thanks to the ‘Ethos’, an institution that preserves the world’s culture, repairing tools and weapons excavated from the ruins of an ancient civilization. Practically simultaneously, both Kislev and Aveh began to excavate their native ruins, seeking weapons from ancient technology and had the ‘Ethos’ repair the discoveries. The various weapons recovered greatly changed the form of warfare. The outcome of the battles between the two countries was no longer determined by man-to-man combat, but by ‘Gears’ - giant humanoid fighting machines - that were obtained from deep within the ruins. Inevitably, after many swings in the state of the war, Kislev gained the upper hand, in large part because of the superior quantity of resources buried within their ruins. -

Once members of Congress and the media in July got wind of FutureMAP -- a plan by the Pentagon’s Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) to create online futures markets where traders could speculate in the likelihood of terrorist attacks -- it was only a matter of hours before the project was sacrificed on the altar of political damage control. But even this, it seems, was too little, too late to appease an outraged Congress: House and Senate appropriations conferees working on the Defense budget have since voted to abolish large portions of the agency’s Terrorism Information Awareness program. The program -- of which FutureMAP was a small part -- was designed to mine private databases for information on terrorist suspects. DARPA, meanwhile, soldiers on with the kind of "blue-sky" thinking that is its charge. Indeed, the Pentagon agency that underwrote the development of some of the world’s most advanced technologies, such as the Internet, the Global Positioning System, and stealth aircraft, is now looking at technologies that will help U.S. troops soldier on, and on, and on. DARPA thinkers are saying that maybe humans themselves need an upgrade. "The human is becoming the weakest link," DARPA warned last year in an unclassified report. -

TEACHING SPECULATIVE FICTION IN COLLEGE: A PEDAGOGY FOR MAKING ENGLISH STUDIES RELEVANT by JAMES HAMMOND SHIMKUS Under the Direction of Dr. Elizabeth Burmester ABSTRACT Speculative fiction (science fiction, fantasy, and horror) has steadily gained popularity both in culture and as a subject for study in college. While many helpful resources on teaching a particular genre or teaching particular texts within a genre exist, college teachers who have not previously taught science fiction, fantasy, or horror will benefit from a broader pedagogical overview of speculative fiction, and that is what this resource provides. Teachers who have previously taught speculative fiction may also benefit from the selection of alternative texts presented here. This resource includes an argument for the consideration of more speculative fiction in college English classes, whether in composition, literature, or creative writing, as well as overviews of the main theoretical discussions and definitions of each genre. -

All Rights Reserved Research Paper INVESTIGATION AND DEVELOPMENT OF LIFE SAVING RESEARCH ROBOTS Pundru Srinivasa Rao1* *Corresponding Author: Pundru Srinivasa Rao, [email protected] This paper investigates life saving and time saving research robots which are installed in industry, military, space, hospital, medical, surgical, home, echo friendly, inspection, public and security system for performing labour and life saving jobs. At present, new types of robots are being developed in laboratories and much of the researches on robotics are focuses not on specific industrial tasks, but on investigations into new types of robots. And also focuses the alternative ways to think about the design of robots and its manufacturing process. The main goals of Research robots such as nano-robots/soft-robots/super-robots/swarm-robots/hap-tic-Interface- robots are as small as viruses, to cure the cancer and protect other sophisticated parts of the human body. The physical structures of these robots are like amoeba, which can move/roll/ jump and change its configuration such as assembling and disassembling of its components, which depends on its requirement. It is very difficult to operate accurately therefore increasing the mobility, stability and precision, several smart materials, smart actuators and sensors are to be used to sense and react to the effect of environmental inputs, and to stimulate the devices. It is expected that these new type of robots will be able to solve real world problems when they are finally realized. -
