Previous meetings • The sides met for the first time in UEFA competition on matchday three. • Maccabi Tel-Aviv's five UEFA meetings with Dutch teams have ended W3 D0 L2. • AZ's only previous encounters with Israeli opposition produced home and away wins against Maccabi Haifa in the 2013/14 UEFA Europa League group stage. Form guide • Maccabi won their first four UEFA home games of the season but that run ended in dramatic fashion on matchday one when they led 3-0 against Zenit but managed to lose 4-3. • Maccabi and Gabala are the only teams to have made it from the first qualifying round to the group stage in this season's edition. • AZ and Astra Giurgiu have conceded the most goals in this season's group stage: eight each. AZ's 5-0 loss at Zenit on matchday two was the heaviest European away defeat in their history. • Maccabi have qualified for the round of 32 in one of their two previous UEFA Cup and UEFA Europa League group stage campaigns, 2013/14. • AZ have successfully navigated five of their eight previous UEFA Cup and UEFA Europa League group stages. Links and trivia • The journey from Alkmaar to Tel Aviv is around 3,300km. • Maccabi midfielder Haris Medunjanin started his career with AZ, representing the club from 2004–08, during which time he was a team-mate of his Maccabi coach, Shota Arveladze. • AZ forward Robert Mühren is the nephew of former Netherlands duo Gerrie and Arnold Mühren; the latter lifted the UEFA Cup with Ipswich Town in 1981. The coaches • Maccabi's Georgian coach Arveladze hit an impressive 32 goals in 64 UEFA club games as a player, lifting league titles with Ajax, Rangers and Trabzonspor. He is in his first term in Israel having spent the last five years coaching in Turkey. • Arveladze scored 48 goals in 89 outings in all competitions for AZ from 2005–07, and served as the club's assistant coach under Louis van Gaal and Ronald Koeman from 2008–10. • AZ coach John van den Brom spent the bulk of his playing career as a midfielder for Vitesse and was capped twice by the Netherlands. As a coach, he claimed the Belgian championship with Anderlecht in 2013, taking command in Alkmaar in 2014. 3 Maccabi Tel-Aviv FC - AZ Alkmaar Thursday 3 November 2016 - 19.00CET (20.00 local time) Match press kit Netanya Municipal Stadium, Netanya Team facts Maccabi Tel-Aviv FC Formed: 1906 Nickname: The Yellows UEFA club competition honours • None Domestic honours (most recent triumph in brackets) League title: 21 (2015) Israeli Cup: 23 (2015) Ten-year record (UEFA Cup/UEFA Europa League unless indicated otherwise) 2015/16: UEFA Champions League group stage 2014/15: play-offs (having transferred from UEFA Champions League third qualifying round) 2013/14: round of 32 (having transferred from UEFA Champions League third qualifying round) 2012/13: did not take part in UEFA competition 2011/12: group stage 2010/11: play-offs 2009/10: did not take part in UEFA competition 2008/09: did not take part in UEFA competition 2007/08: second qualifying round 2006/07: did not take part in UEFA competition Records UEFA club competition • Biggest home win 6-0: Maccabi v Željezničar 04/08/11, UEFA Europa League third qualifying round second leg 6-0: Maccabi v Žalgiris Vilnius 09/08/01, UEFA Cup qualifying round first leg • Biggest away win 0-3: PAOK v Maccabi 10/08/04, UEFA Champions League third qualifying round first leg • Heaviest home defeat 0-4: Maccabi v Chelsea 24/11/15, UEFA Champions League group stage • Heaviest away defeat 5-1: Beşiktaş v Maccabi 15/09/11, UEFA Europa League group stage 5-1: Bayern München v Maccabi 23/11/04, UEFA Champions League group stage 4-0: Chelsea v Maccabi 16/09/15, UEFA Champions League group stage UEFA Cup/UEFA Europa League • Biggest home win 6-0: Maccabi v Željezničar (see above) 6-0: Maccabi v Žalgiris Vilnius (see above) • Biggest away win 1-3: Pandurii Târgu Jiu v Maccabi 28/07/16, third qualifying round first leg 0-2 on three occasions, most recently v Győr 17/07/13, second qualifying round first leg • Heaviest home defeat 2-3: Maccabi v Beşiktaş 01/12/11, group stage 1-2: Maccabi v Stoke City 03/11/11, group stage 4 Maccabi Tel-Aviv FC - AZ Alkmaar Thursday 3 November 2016 - 19.00CET (20.00 local time) Match press kit Netanya Municipal Stadium, Netanya • Heaviest away defeat 5-1: Beşiktaş v Maccabi (see above) AZ Alkmaar Formed: 1967 Nickname: Kaaskoppen (Cheeseheads) UEFA club competition honours (runners-up in brackets) • UEFA Cup: (1981) Domestic honours (most recent triumph in brackets) League title: 2 (2009) Dutch Cup: 4 (2013) Ten-year European record (UEFA Europa League/UEFA Cup unless indicated otherwise) 2015/16: group stage 2014/15: did not take part in UEFA club competition 2013/14: quarter-finals 2012/13: play-offs 2011/12: quarter-finals 2010/11: group stage 2009/10: UEFA Champions League group stage 2008/09: did not take part in UEFA club competition 2007/08: group stage 2006/07: quarter-finals Records UEFA club competition • Biggest home win 11-1: AZ v Differdange 14/09/77, UEFA Cup first round first leg • Biggest away win 0-5: Differdange v AZ 27/09/77, UEFA Cup first round second leg • Heaviest home defeat 0-5: AZ v Anji 30/08/12, UEFA Europa League play-off second leg • Heaviest away defeat 5-0: Zenit v AZ 29/09/16, UEFA Europa League group stage UEFA Europa League/UEFA Cup • Biggest home win 11-1: AZ v Differdange (see above) • Biggest away win 0-5: Differdange v AZ (see above) • Heaviest home defeat 0-5: AZ v Anji (see above) • Heaviest away defeat 5-0: Zenit v AZ (see above) 5 Maccabi Tel-Aviv FC - AZ Alkmaar Thursday 3 November 2016 - 19.00CET (20.00 local time) Match press kit Netanya Municipal Stadium, Netanya Squad list Maccabi Tel-Aviv FC Current season All-time QUAL UEL League UEL UEFA No. Player Nat.
