In addition to being a trailblazing former Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Canada Cocktails at 5:00 pm – 6:15 pm jurist, she is also a best-selling author and the recipient of many Dinner 6:30 pm honorary degrees. Ms. McLachlin will offer her unique perspective on emerging human rights issues, changing human rights discourse and expanding human rights in Canada. Guests will also be welcome to visit the Museum’s Protecting Rights in Canada gallery, which shares the journey toward the legal protection of rights in Canada. The gallery currently displays an original version of the Proclamation of the Constitution Act, 1982, signed by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and former Prime GALA CO-CHAIRS Minister Rt. Honourable Pierre Elliott Trudeau. The Proclamation is one of Canada’s most important constitutional documents, making Gail Asper O.C., O.M., LL.D the Charter of Rights and Freedoms possible and enabling so many of the legal rights we have today.
