ADvIsoR: PLJNTIIUMADEE I(ATAWANDEE, ph.D., l5z pp. The purpose of this assessment is not simply to list assets but also assess cultural significance of the place as well as evaluate potential, quality, and tevcl of service. The initial assessment also provides the baselinc data, benchmark information for policy makers in rireasuring progr€ss and making decisions as the cultural tourism programs move forward. The research methodology of the study employed qualitative and quantitative approach. Data collected are divided into four parts; documents review, indepth intewiew, questionnaire, and site observation. An indepth interview was conducted with 20 key persons who are stakeholders of Chiang Khan community. Moreover,400 sets of questionnaires werc gathered from sample tourists visiting Chiang Ktran from December 30, 2008 until February 15, 2009, reliability test at 0.85 which acccpted for sratistic approach and the confidence level of this research is 95Yo. The data findings were analyzcd by SPSS kogram. The result rcvealcd that the site has 5 cultural significance; historical, social, emotional, aesthetic and economic values. Tourists regard tranquility and simplicity as the uniqueness of Chiang Khan and wish it remains. Traditional wooden houses along Mekong River should bc conserved as well as historical sites. The tourist support services are in satisfied level, an)rway, thc signs to atfiactions and information post of cach spot should be improved in ordcr to bc convenient to aoosss and communicate the tnrc valuc of Chiang Khan to audienccs. After analyzing the findings from this research, the rcsearchcr proposed ttre concept of "Slow City" in order to be a development plan for Chiang Khan. BASTMEIJER2 & NIELS JACOBSEN3 ABSTRACT Between March 2006 and February 2015, the occurrence and habitats of the aroid genus Cryptocoryne were investigated in Chiang Khan District, Loei Province, Thailand. In addition to the well-known Cryptocoryne crispatula Engl. var. crispatula and C. crispatula var. yunnanensis (H.Li) H.Li & N.Jacobsen, a recently described species was found: C. loeiensis Bastmeijer et al., as well as a number of plants considered to be hybrids. Although Cryptocoryne is presently abundant, decimation or extinction could occur in the future because of the dam constructions in the Mekong River. The aim of this review is to integrate numerous petrological studies with sedimentary, palaeontological, and provenance studies in order to construct a preliminary tectonic model which shows the terranes docked in the earliest Carboniferous (Truong Son with Loei-Phetchabun) and in the Permian (Kontum). The Kontum Terrane is characterized by Proterozoic magmatism, mid-Ordovician to Early Devonian granites, and Permian charnockites. Major carbonate platforms developed in the Givetian to earliest Tournaisian on Truong Son and from the Visean to mid-Permian across Truong Edited by: Son and Loei-Phetchabun terranes. Sirada Tienkow A Tourism Transition Model for Cultural Heritage Preservation of Chiang Khan District, Loei Province 4 Sirada Tienkow * Abstract The research was conducted to answer the question: what will become of the Chiang Khan Old Town in the future and what preservation model could be applied to accomplish equilibrium between tourism and cultural heritage preservation? Primary data in the research were from interviewing local residents, tourists, non-participant knowledgeable persons, and the officials of the Chiang Khan Municipality; secondary data were from related official reports. Both qualitative and quantitative methods were used in analysis. The ‘cultural heritage phase’ concept was used for forecasting the possible future of the Chiang Khan Old Town. In the future, it is possible that entertainment tourism would replace cultural tourism and outsiders would replace some local residents; and tourism, if profitable, would benefit outside investors rather than local residents. For this reason, a heritage plan for balancing tourism with cultural heritage preservation was proposed in this study. Cultural tourism researchers should be aware that when people are living in the destination, almost all cultural heritage will be commodified for money and then the authenticity of the cultural heritage will disappear or be left in a desperate state. The research found this process has already begun in the case of Chiang Khan. BASTMEIJER2 & NIELS JACOBSEN3 ABSTRACT Between March 2006 and February 2015, the occurrence and habitats of the aroid genus Cryptocoryne were investigated in Chiang Khan District, Loei Province, Thailand. In addition to the well-known Cryptocoryne crispatula Engl. var. crispatula and C. crispatula var. yunnanensis (H.Li) H.Li & N.Jacobsen, a recently described species was found: C. loeiensis Bastmeijer et al., as well as a number of plants considered to be hybrids. Although Cryptocoryne is presently abundant, decimation or extinction could occur in the future because of the dam constructions in the Mekong River.
