Announcing Auditions for Spring Workshops “THEATRE’S GONE TO THE DOGS!” YOU’RE A GOOD MAN, CHARLIE BROWN If you are a Tulare County student (grades 1 though 12) who loves to act, sing and dance we would love to have you come to our auditions for our spring production of Disney’s 101 Dalmatians Kids and selections from You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown. Each show will be performed as a One Act with an ALL CAST Grand Finale number at the end. Participants typically pay a $20 instruction fee, and contribute $30 toward the expenses for cos- tumes used in the show. There are leading roles and chorus parts for all ages. Disney’s 101 Dalmatians Kids will be performed by our younger actors grades 1 - 6. In a loving home in the city of London, Dalmatian parents, Pongo and Perdita happily raise their Dalmatian puppies, until the monstrous Cruella De Vil plots to steal them for her new fur coat! Join all the dogs of London, as they daringly rescue the puppies from Cruella and her bumbling henchmen. With a delightfully fun score, lovable characters, and one of the most deliciously evil villains in the Disney canon, this stage adaptation is certain to charm and delight all audiences. Roles include: ANITA an artist, owner of the Dalmatians POLICEMAN CRUELLA DE VIL the evil villainess PONGO the Dalmatians' father DOGCATCHER ROGER a composer, owner of the Dalmatians DOTTIE a Dalmatian puppy SERGEANT TIBBS a cat HORACE Cruella's henchman SPARKY a Dalmatian puppy JASPER Cruella's henchman THUNDERBOLT and DOG CHORUS television "wonder dog" KIRBY a Dalmatian puppy VARIOUS CANINE NARRATORS LUCKY a Dalmatian puppy ENSEMBLE OF PUPPIES including: NANNY POODLES PATCH a Dalmatian puppy SCOTTIES PENNY a Dalmatian puppy CHIHUAHUAS PEPPER a Dalmatian puppy PERDITA the Dalmatians' mother You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown will be performed by our teen actors grades 7 -12. It tells the story of an average day in the life of the famous comic strip child hero Charlie Brown. Most of the characters are five to six years old; however the show is generally cast with adults. The audience is introduced to the whole Peanuts gang: Patty, Schroeder, Lucy, and Snoopy. All of the characters share their observations, largely negative, of Charlie Brown. As the play progresses, the relationships of the Peanuts characters to one another are further expanded. Lucy is infatuated with Schroeder and takes great pleasure in tormenting Charlie Brown. Linus loves his blanket. Snoopy lives in his rich imagination. Charlie Brown is in love with a mysterious little, redheaded girl. The show ends with each character listing things that for him or her equal happiness. Finally, Lucy ends up telling Charlie Brown what a good man he is, leaving a smiling, happy Charlie Brown alone on stage. Roles include: Linus male, baritone 16 – 28 supporting Charlie Brown baritone 17 – 29 lead Snoopy male, tenor 18 – 30 supporting Sally female, soprano 15 – 25 supporting Patty female soprano 15 – 29 supporting Schroeder male, tenor 16 – 29 supporting Peanuts Gang Chorus- additional characters will be named and added Lucy female, alto 17 – 29 supporting upon casting. SAMPLE REHEARSAL SCHEDULE This schedule is a sample for your information. An actual specific schedule will be made after the cast turns in their conflict schedules. Most people will not rehearse for the full four hours every day. In addition to telling us your vacation schedule, you should go to your teacher(s), coaches and directors immediately and find out about any field trips, band reviews, choir concerts or other important events in February, March, April and May, and bring those dates to us in writing (stapled to your audition form if at all possible) so that we can best plan our final rehearsal calendar that works for everyone. This regular schedule will begin on February 15th, but we are considering doing some preliminary work before that, depending on cast availability. Elderwood Room IMPORTANT OPPORTUNITY: to understand our program better and/or be extra prepared for auditions, come to an Audition Preparation Workshop on Tuesday, November 30th at 6 p.m. in the Sycamore Room, 7000 Doe Avenue, Visalia. You will be able to meet the directors, check out a copy of the show script and a music CD, ask questions and become acquainted with our audition process. Parents and students are encouraged to attend. Call 651-1482 with any questions. This meeting is not mandatory but it will really help you! This is a “cattle-call” style audition where everyone will sing the same piece of music and speak the same dialogue. However, we can- not have a successful production without 100% commitment and excellent attendance. You will not be excused from our rehearsals for other rehearsals. You should go to your teacher(s) immediately and find out about any field trips, band reviews, choir concerts or any other important events and give those dates to us in writing so that we can plan our early rehearsal calendar around you and then we will all stick to that calendar and only change it if we need to for the success of the production. We absolutely do not excuse students for last minute events. It is important for you to be diligent in getting information from other programs early.
