New term, new newsletter

How we have got to September already is a wonder to me. But as it is, I have a new vocation in the village, helping with producing the newsletter. Receiving the newsletter every month since we moved to the village has been an insight into what is happening and how everyone mucks in to making this community a wonderful place to live. I hope my contribution can continue the great work that has been done in the past - thank you for letting me take part.

‘Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet September 1st, 11th after Trinity your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? See 11:15am Morning Praise how the lilies of the field grow. They do not labour or spin, yet I tell you that not Lead by Dick Beath even Solomon in all his grandeur was clothed like one of these. If that is how God Preaching by Dick Beath clothes the grass of the field, which is here today yet tomorrow is thrown on to the September 8th, 12th after Trinity 11:15am Holy Communion fire, will he not much more clothe you, 0 you of little faith?’ (Matthew 6:26, 28-30) Lead by Matthew Street You may recall that a while back 3-D pictures were all the rage. Open virtually any Preaching by Matthew Street magazine or newspaper, it seemed, and you would be confronted with a curious September 15th, 13th after Trinity pattern of dots and colours, which, we were told, would reveal a wonderful three- No Service dimensional image when focused on in a particular way. Could you ever see it? I rarely did. That's the thing about sight; we don't all see things in quite the same way. An old saying puts it well: 'Two men looked out through prison bars; one saw mud, September 22nd, 14th after Trinity the other saw stars.' I like that. Where one sees ugliness another sees beauty, where 11:15am Holy Communion one sees despair another sees hope. That's not to say that everything is subjective; Lead by Matthew Street rather that on occasions we need to have our eyes opened to the wonder of Preaching by Matthew Street something before we appreciate it. That is what Jesus was saying to the crowd September 29th, 15th after Trinity gathered to hear his teaching: look properly at the ordinary things of life - 11:15am Morning Praise something as commonplace as a flower in the meadow - and you will see God's Lead by Matthew Street Preaching by Andy Fraser hand behind it. To the eye of faith, life takes on a completely new dimension, speaking not just of the beauty of this world but also of the loving purposes of God. Let our prayer each day be that God might open our eyes to glimpse a little more clearly his presence all around us.

Wellow Village Community Shop has been run by volunteers since December 1997. We are a non-profit making Co-operative whose aim is to provide value for money shopping to all.

We sell a wide range of produce from local suppliers including fresh dairy, meat, vegetables, pasties, bread and free-range eggs. We also sell newspapers (if ordered in advance), postage stamps, greetings cards from local artists and we are a hub for parcel drop off and pick up. In the growing season villagers donate their excess fruit and vegetables from their gardens.

We also take bespoke orders: you can order delicious handmade bread from Hobbs -a family firm (delivered Fridays); meat from a local butcher who sources local meat (delivered Fridays); vegetables from a local supplier (delivered daily) and from time to time we take orders for fresh fish from a local fishmonger who attracts rave reviews. (Please let us have your email address if you would like to be informed when we are putting in a fish order). We are also an agent for dry cleaning (pick-up and drop-off Tuesdays and Fridays).

To place an order for any of the above, please visit the shop, email or phone.

For extra convenience, you can also open a customer account which is billed on a monthly basis. Or, one way you can really help the shop is by opening a Loyalty Account: you set up a monthly standing order to transfer an amount of your choosing to the shop. That way we have a guaranteed income and you get the exercise walking to the shop to spend it! (Please download a form from our website or pick one up from the shop).

The shop’s importance to the village:

It’s a place to meet other villagers (especially if you sign up as a volunteer) and to catch up with village news. Most importantly the shop helps elderly and less mobile people, as well as those with no transport, to be independent. It also allows customers to avoid travelling to other shops by car which reduces their carbon footprint and mileage costs.

The Parlour shop also acts as a village social hub: we advertise fundraising events, sell local theatre and raffle tickets and sell tokens for the tennis court. We also provide a collection basket for food donations for the local food bank.

Opening Hours: Mon - Fri 09:00 to 17:00, Sat 09:00 to 13:00
