Chief Executive Officer CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER Candidate Brief 2021 Equestrian Australia – Overview Equestrian Australia (EA) is the peak body for the administration of equestrian sport in Australia. The organisation manages four Olympic / Paralympic sports and four non-Olympic equestrian sports. The key stakeholders of EA are the Federation Equestre International (FEI), the seven State and Territory State Branches, EA Membership, Sport Australia, Australian Institute of Sport, Australian Olympic Committee and Paralympics Australia. To date, Australian equestrians have won nine Gold, four Silver and eight Bronze medals at the Olympic and Paralympic Games and three Gold, one Silver and seven Bronze at the World Equestrian Games. Our athletes have achieved great victories at peak international Equestrian events and as a result Australia has earned the reputation as an elite equestrian nation. A big part of this success is the tireless commitment and excellence shown by the sport’s administrators, coaches, officials, volunteers, owners and athletes of all ages performing at all levels as well as the importance placed on sports leadership and the welfare of horses. You will oversee the day-to-day management of the organisation and its national programs and functions, as well as giving direction and leadership toward the achievement of strategic, operational, financial and commercial priorities. You will be responsible for the effective operation of the organisation, driving a culture of safety & respect, driving governance & organisational reform, ensuring effective management of the reputational, financial and compliance risks of the organisation & delivering the strategic priorities of the Board to ensure a sustainable future for the sport. You will represent the organisation and its values and goals with members, state branches, government and regulatory bodies, other key stakeholders and the broader Equestrian community as well as developing effective relationships with Sport Australia, Australian Institute of Sport, EA Membership, AOC, FEI, The Dept. of Agriculture, Australian Horse Industry Council and Animal Health Australia. You will be responsible for ensuring that EA delivers on its key obligations including the continuity of funding and reducing the reliance on funding from the Federal Government by identifying and developing new properties that will promote the sport of Equestrian whilst being attractive to a wider membership base, sponsors and other commercial partners. You will possess exceptional leadership capabilities and management experience, ability to develop and implement strategic change, organisational change, strong commercial and financial acumen and possess outstanding ability to build, develop and harness sustainable relationships across diverse stakeholder groups. The successful candidate needs to be resilient, dynamic and engaging individual with political maturity, patience and diplomacy skills. Sports management experience within a large membership-based sport and an empathy for volunteerism in a not-for-profit organization would be beneficial but is certainly not essential. Preferred location: Sydney EQUESTRIAN AUSTRALIA – CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER To apply, please contact [email protected] or visit www.globalelitesports.com Key Responsibilities • Represent the organisation and its values and goals with members, suppliers, government and regulatory bodies, other stakeholders and the broader Equestrian community. • Develop effective relationships with Sport Australia, AIS, EA Membership, AOC, FEI, (the international governing body). The Dept. of Agriculture and Australian Horse Industry Council, Animal Health Australia. • Embed and manage the service level agreement between the state branches and EA as well as providing regular reporting on delivery and operation of agreed services. • Coordinate regular meetings with state branch CEO’s to facilitate the operations of EA. • Ensure EA delivers on its key obligations including the continuity of funding and reducing the reliance on funding from the Federal Government • Identifying new opportunities that will develop the sport of the Equestrian whilst being attractive to wider membership base, sponsors and other commercial partners. • Ensuring the appropriate level of transparency amongst key stakeholders impacted by Equestrian Australia’s policies and decisions. • Investigate and act on grants available from government, corporate entities and individuals. • Co-ordinate regular EA Board Meetings as well as providing board papers and minutes in a timely manner. • Support the smooth operation of the Board and Board sub committees, recommending a yearly budget and 3 year forecast for board approval. Managing the organisations resources within budget guidelines. • Identify principal risks & ensure that appropriate controls are in place to minimise such risks, including a non-negotiable focus on safety in equestrian. • Identify new products and initiatives that will capture new members and create greater participation. • Manage the human resources of EA staff and volunteers, according to approved policies and procedures. EQUESTRIAN AUSTRALIA – CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER To apply, please contact [email protected] or visit www.globalelitesports.com Key Responsibilities (continued) • Create an inclusive work environment that attracts and retains high performers and appropriate talent. • Liaise with all levels of government on issues relating to the operation and success of EA. • Ability to identify performance improvement opportunities & efficiency measures not limited to technology processes and organisational change • Assist the Board in the development, execution and implementation of governance organisational reform • Implementation of best practice risk management policies, procedures and practices across EA including safety risk management Key Performance Measures • Effective national infrastructure to ensure that the sport maintains its high achievement levels, and that the sport delivers the highest quality services to its members. • Effectively manage the relationships between Equestrian Australia and key stakeholders, seeking input on key issues when appropriate. • Effective and co-operative relationships with National Federations and International Bodies to ensure that the current high profile of EA is maintained at an international level.
