Hello everyone, do not know about you, but as I get older it seems time flies by faster and faster and getting any- thing done requires a lot more attention to detail. Once again the horse industry has really been thru the wringer in 2009, as have many businesses due to the economy. The start of a new year represents more than the passage of time. It is a perfect time to take stock of where your horse business has been, decide where you want it to go, and develop a strategy to get there. I would like to welcome the new members and thank those who have renewed their member- ships for 2010. Your membership helps us support the Foundation Bred Appaloosa. I am happy to announce the BOD approval of the “Performance Point Program” details can be found in this issue of the Tidings.

There are also Directors, Webmaster, and a web site revamp “Want Ads” in the Tidings. The FAHR Merchandise is selling well. We have received a lot of nice comments about the new merchandise. (jacket, long & short sleeve T- shirts, and belt buckles) the mugs and calendars are also selling well. The calendars are outstanding. Eddie did an excellent job on them again this year. We are looking for suggestions on new Merchandise for this year. If there is something you would like to see in the FAHR Merchandise let us know.

FAHR Income and expenditures, FAHR’s income is from annual memberships, horse registrations and transfer, Breeders directory, Tidings advertising, Stud book and programs. We also have income from the sale of Merchan- dise, than recoup the initial expenditure over a period of time. The expenses, associated with printing the Tidings is the largest, than postage, server and domain name, insurance, office supplies and the initial outlay for merchandise. If FAHR had the ability to utilize the web site more we could cut the initial outlay for merchandise way down. The FAHR Website is a top priority for me in 2010. I have placed bids wanted for web site rebuild on several internet web designers directories. We are looking for a web designer that moonlights to revamp or build a new website for us using XHTML, CSS and an open source content management system (CMS) such as Joomla. Horse Expos for 2010 that I am planning to attend are the Illinois Horse Fair in Springfield, Illinois on March 5-7, the HHF in Indianapolis, Indiana on April 9-11, the Midwest Horse Fair in Madison, Wisconsin on April 16-18. If you are planning to attend one of these expos let me know.

The current FAHR Presidents term in office expires in 2010. Elections will take place at this years annual meeting. All nominees for President must be members of FAHR in good standing and been board members for a minimum of 1 year prior to election.

Other FAHR calendar dates: January 1, beginning of membership year. January 19, Tidings deadline. April 19, Tidings deadline. May 1 is the deadline that any member desiring to fill a director position shall submit a written biography to the FAHR secretary by May 1, 2010. Check requirements in Tidings director ad. July 19, Tidings deadline. August 16 to September 16 meeting notice description of any matters to be considered at the meeting within a mini- mum of 30 days and not more than 60 days prior to the meeting. October 16, Annual meeting. October 19, Tidings deadline. November 30, the Saddle Log and Endurance Program for 2010 ends. December 1, 2010 starts the new 2011 year for the Saddle Log and Endurance Program. December 31, Stallion reports due, end of membership year, end of point year for Performance Point Program.

The Foundation Appaloosa Horse Registry is committed to the FAHR registered Horse and representing the needs of its members which can only be done with the involvement of the members at all levels. The Foundation Bred Appaloosa’s future is in the hands of its members. I have managed to spend time with my horses, but never as much as I want to. For years I lived to ride but now I have to settle for whatever riding time I can get with the beautiful Foundation bred Appaloosa. Try to appreciate and enjoy your time in the saddle.

26 FAHR SADDLE LOG PROGRAM

The Saddle Log Program is a great way for you to earn awards for any time you spend in the saddle on an Appaloosa. We have a program for adults and a program for youth. This program recognizes the need for personal achievement for the individual who daily or weekly enjoys the benefits gained from riding. Whether you ride out on the trail, train and compete in shows, ride in parades, perform ranch work, or whatever your pleasure, those hours will count towards earning great awards. Qualifications for the Saddle Log Program: 1. Credit for saddle log hours will not be given nor will records of hours completed be kept on any eligible person until he or she is enrolled in the saddle log program. To enroll, a program application must be completed and returned to FAHR along with the annual filing fee of $15 for adults and a one time filing fee of $20 for youth. Your FAHR mem- bership fees must also be paid for each qualifying year. 2. For adults, saddle log eligibility is for one year, with each FAHR MERIT PROGRAM riding season starting on December 1st (preceding year) and running through November 30th of that ride year. For Certificate awarded to any Stallion with 10 FAHR regis- youth, eligibility begins with the riding year in which FAHR tered get or Mare with 3 FAHR registered foals. For more receives your application and runs until you are over the information contact Eddie Street , [email protected] / 360- age of 18 as of December 1st of the up coming ride season. 273-9355

3. All Appaloosas used must be registered with FAHR. Horses used need not be owned by the rider logging the hours. 4. Logged hours must be recorded on official forms provided by and available from FAHR. 5. Inactive records will only be kept for maximum of five years. After such time records will be deactivated. Attention—Stallion Owners Awards in the Saddle Log Program: 1. Riders will receive an official FAHR Saddle Log Program for completion of the first 100 hours of riding. 2.
