I hope that you will enjoy viewing the exhibition that is assembled here as well as the opportunity to meet friends and artists, to enjoy a glass of wine and to listen to the musicians. If you are a regular visitor to our Show you will no doubt recognise a number of the artists. We are fortunate to have a significant number who have come to Kimpton to exhibit and sell their work for many years. Many of them now have a loyal following here and we appreciate their continuing support. This year we are exhibiting the work of 104 artists from across the region. That is ten more than last year and this gives us some confidence that the Show continues to provide an attractive opportunity. Hanging on the walls of the church are over 300 of their framed paintings and other artworks. We were very pleased to see ten photographers submitting their work this year. That is a significant increase over previous years and perhaps is a reflection of the high level of sales that the photographers have enjoyed in the recent past. I hope that trend continues. And of course, displayed around the church, there is the usual eclectic range of, what is loosely described as, Other Media. We are fortunate to be able to show once more some very fine examples of pottery, ceramics, glass and textiles, to mention just some of the types of work. This year is the first Art Show to be witnessed by our new vicar, Revd. Bonnie Evans-Hills, and I hope that she enjoys it. I am grateful for her support in allowing us to use this venue and for the enthusiasm she brings to village life. Thank you, Bonnie! A lot goes into the Show behind the scenes by a small group of dedicated committee members. Starting in October, the planning begins for the next Show and each year at that time we ask ourselves how we can improve the Show. We review the feedback that we received and consider ways to make the event more conducive to selling artwork, for the mutual benefit of the artists and the local charities that we support. This year has seen several very exciting developments and I’d like to mention two of them. nnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn nnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn Firstly, Strutt & Parker in Harpenden asked to be more involved in supporting the Show and I hope that their significant efforts will result in more buyers of art attending the event. You may well have seen a number of their marketing initiatives around the county which include Kimpton Art Show “For Sale” boards, mail shots and print advertising. They have also provided the canapés for the opening night. We are very grateful for the help they have provided this year and previously. Secondly, the University of Hertfordshire, School of Creative Arts, has been promoting the Show amongst their network of current and former art students. They have also become one of our programme advertisers. Do look at some of the fantastic Art Short Courses that they are offering. We are also indebted to Charlotte Knight and her company My Word Communications who, yet again, have provided the wine for the opening night. This very generous gesture makes a significant impact on the amount of money that we are able to raise. Please take a moment to review the advertisements from our other invaluable supporters. They include Little Gym in Harpenden, Oliver Berti Hardwood Logs, Hour Hands, HDA Auto Services and Artscape. Feel free to take away this brochure so that you can retain their details. Finally, a few words about our volunteers. We rely on a large number of people giving of their time freely to prepare the Show, to act as stewards, to serve drinks and to play live music for us. You are too numerous to mention by name but we are thankful for all of your efforts. We have the Bench Working Party to thank again for providing the manpower to assemble our display stands, which continue to be housed and transported by Ben Cole. I will mention by name the other members of the Kimpton Art Show Committee who have put in many hours of work to get another Show “on the road”. This year they were Sandra Berti, Sue Burns, Tim Edwards, Carina Helmn, Simon McCullough and Jenny Taylor. Well done to all of you. It remains just to say “thank you” to you, the visitor, for coming and supporting the Kimpton Art Show. Last year, we broke all records for sales, door receipts and money raised for our charities and causes. It would be great if that trajectory could be maintained. So, enjoy the Show, and don’t be afraid to buy! Ted Frith. On behalf of the Kimpton Art Show Committee. nnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn nnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn The Little Gym Harpenden are proud to s upport Kimpton Art Show At The Little Gym®, we take a non-competitive, progressive approach to motor skill development. Where artists are also exhibiting unframed work in racks, this will be indicated in the catalogue at the bottom of the relevant artist’s listing. We have not catalogued the large number of other items that are on display on tables in the church but there is a broad range of work to admire.
