Commonthought is a celebration of the creative endeavors of Lesley University. ! Front and Back Cover Art: Dylan Griffin Foreword ! On Wednesday, November 20, 2013, the student editors of Commonthought reached an impasse. They were evenly split on the matter of this issue’s cover. Half of the class was in favor of the dueling canine images by Dylan Griffin that eventually won out and half of the class was just as passionately in favor of the striking image by Lyndsey McElreath titled “Little Boo.”! ! Despite my attempts to remain impartial, I was firmly in the latter camp. And so, it seemed unfair to let me cast the deciding vote, as I have been asked to do in previous semesters, as I did all too often when I was production editor of my own undergraduate literary magazine way back when.! ! Instead, we flipped a coin. -

Complete Song Lyrics (By Seán Silke)
INTRODUCTION TO THE LYRICS OF 400+ ORIGINAL COMPOSITIONS BY SEAN SILKE Seán Silke is a prolific composer and musician with over 500 original songs in his back catalogue. He composes songs (music and lyrics) in a variety of styles (dance, pop, love songs, country, crossover). Seán is launching two albums in 2019 - “Unexamined Emotions” (14 pop songs dealing with affairs of the heart, sung by Ellen Cosgrove); and “Unlucky in love” (15 dance songs featuring a variety of female artists and produced by Chris Kabs, a well-known solo artist/producer on the Dublin dance scene). In 2018, Seán released “In the heart of the castle” (14 country-flavoured pop songs performed by Weekend Special); and a well-received single by country artist C.C. Cooper, called "He wants me back". “In the heart of the castle” was a standout country pop album of 2018, featuring 14 original compositions by Seán Silke. The band Weekend Special consists of Darien Chase (vocals), Rohan Healy (guitars, additional instrumentation), Al Quiff (upright and electric bass), David Virgin (vocals, guitar) and Seán Silke (pianos, strings). The concept of a “house of dreams” runs through many of the songs. Tracks like “In the heart of the castle” and “Heading on home to you” reflect the emotions of home when home is a safe and happy place to be. “In another life, in another world” talks of those dreams of the heart which are not necessarily shared. “If you're looking for love” speaks of departed dreams. And “Worthy to be loved” describes what it is like when dreams are spectacularly and unexpectedly fulfilled. -
No Exit and Three Other Plays by Jean Paul Sartre
NO EXIT AND THREE OTHER PLAYS BY JEAN PAUL SARTRE NO EXIT (Huis Clos) THE FLIES (Les Mouches) translated from the French by Stuart Gilbert DIRTY HANDS (Les Mains sales) THE RESPECTFUL PROSTITUTE (La Putain respectueuse) translated from the French by Lionel Abel NO EXIT (Huis Clos) – A PLAY IN ONE ACT CHARACTERS IN THE PLAY VALET GARCIN ESTELLE INEZ Huis Clos (No Exit) was presented for the first time at the Theatre du Vieux-Colombier, Paris, in May 1944. SCENE A drawing-room in Second Empire style. A massive bronze ornament stands on the mantelpiece. GARCIN [enters, accompanied by the ROOM-VALET, and glances around him]: Hm! So here we are? VALET: Yes, Mr. Garcin. GARCIN: And this is what it looks like? VALET. Yes. GARCIN: Second Empire furniture, I observe. Well, well, I dare say one gets used to it in time. VALET. Some do. Some don't. GARCIN Are all the other rooms like this one? VALET. How could they be? We cater for all sorts: Chinamen and Indians, for instance. What use would they have for a Second Empire chair? GARCIN: And what use do you suppose I have for one? Do you know who I was?. Oh, well, it's no great matter. And, to tell the truth, I had quite a habit of living among furniture that I didn't relish, and in false positions. I'd even come to like it. A false position in a LOUIS-Philippe dining-room—you know the style?—well, that had its points, you know. Bogus in bogus, so to speak.
