10 Lake Mathews Kennel Club Pee Wee Class – Friday, April 23, 2021 (Geared for children ages 5-9)

Each Pee Wee unit consists of the child, their responsible adult, and the dog. Only one Pee Wee unit is in the ring at a time. This is not a competitive class, but rather a fun, learning experience for the child and the adult.

• A dog must be at least four months of age to enter the Pee Wee class. • All dogs entered must have the proper lead and collar. • A responsible adult must be present with the child both inside and outside the ring. The adult is to maintain control of the dog outside of the ring. • Dogs that are allowed: AKC fully recognized, Miscellaneous Class breeds, PAL listings, FSS breeds, and All-American • A release must be signed by the child’s parent or legal guardian. Pee Wee Release of Liability will be available at the show. A time and ring will be listed in the judging program. • The entry fee has been waived by the club. There is no cost for this event. Entries will be accepted on the day of the event. • The safety of the dog and child inside and outside the ring is a primary concern. Outside of the ring, the dog is to be controlled by the adult accompanying the child. At the Judge’s discretion based upon the size of the child and the dog, for safety purposes the adult may be asked to attach a second lead to the dog so both child and adult will walk the dog together.

Although the word “judge” will be used, this is designed to be a learning and mentoring experience. No Junior will be “judged”, but rather will be mentored with the age-appropriate amount of information to help prepare them for what they will be expected to know about AKC regular Junior Showmanship once they reach 9 years of age. The children will be mentored one child, their adult, and dog in the ring at a time. Each child will receive a participation ribbon to commemorate the experience.

There is no pre-entry, but we would like to know the number of Pee Wee Participants to expect. Please send an email with the participant’s name and adult’s name by April 11. A party for both the participant and adult will be served. To make a reservation, and for any questions regarding this Special Attraction, please contact: Leita Estes, (619) 922-2025, P.O. 23 AKC National Owner-Handled Series The AKC National Owner-Handled Series is a non-titling competition for dogs that are exhibited by their owners that are not professional handlers.

Exhibitors must declare their dog is Owner-Handled eligible at the time of entry on the entry form. Dogs entered in the Amateur-Owner-Handler class will automatically be marked as eligible to compete in the NOHS. Eligible dogs will be identified by an asterisk in the judge’s book, steward’s book & the catalog. Dogs must be handled throughout the breed level competition for the regular show by an eligible owner. Professional handlers*, household members and current assistants** to professional handlers may not exhibit the dog in any NOHS competition during the entire show.

Owner-Handled Best of Breed will be selected from the dogs that are eligible to compete in the Best of Breed competition including Winners Dog, Winners Bitch and winners of the non-regular classes. o If the Best of Breed/Variety winner is Owner-Handled competition eligible, it will automatically be Owner-Handled Best of Breed/Variety and be eligible to compete in both the regular as well as the Owner-Handled group. o If the Best of Breed/Variety winner is not eligible for Owner-Handled competition and the Best of Opposite Sex to Best of Breed/Variety is eligible, the Best of Opposite Sex to Best of Breed/Variety will compete against the eligible exhibits of the other sex to determine Owner- Handled Best of Breed/Variety. o If neither the Best of Breed nor the Best of Opposite Sex to Best of Breed/Variety are Owner- Handled competition eligible and Select Dog & Select Bitch are both eligible, the judge is to choose Best Owner-Handled exhibit from the Selects and eligible Winners Dog or Winners Bitch. o If one of the Selects is eligible, excuse all Champions and non-regular class winners of the same sex and then choose Best Owner-Handled exhibit from the remaining dogs of the opposite sex including the eligible Winners. o If Best of Breed, Best of Opposite Sex to Best of Breed, Select Dog & Select Bitch are not eligible, the judge may choose any eligible dog remaining in the ring including Winners Dog or Winners Bitch as Owner-Handled Best of Breed/Variety. o If the Best of Winners is eligible, the other Winner is ineligible since it was defeated. o No class dogs other than the Winners Dog & Winners Bitch are eligible to return to the ring. The breed will not be represented in the Owner-Handled Group if there is no eligible dog competing in the Best of Breed or in Best of Winners competition.

*Professional handlers are defined as any person who belongs or has belonged to a professional handlers’ organization, distributed rate cards, or otherwise advertised or represented themselves as handling dogs for pay within the last five years

**A current assistant is defined as anyone employed by a professional handler on a full-time basis, or assisting a professional handler at the show or any time during the cluster/weekend. Current assistants that are eligible to compete in Junior Showmanship (meet age & amateur status requirements) may participate in NOHS. .AKC Revised 5/11/18 Thursday Friday Sporting Ms. Estes Ms. Anderson Hounds Dr. Hossfeld Mrs. Sosa Working Ms. Lambie Mrs. Fink Terriers Ms. Anderson Mrs. Fink Toys Ms. Erickson Dr. Hossfeld NonSporting Ms. Erickson Mrs. Fink Herding Ms. Lambie Ms. Erickson BISOH Mrs. Fink Ms. Estes

COVID-19 Plan for this event includes daily temperature checks for all attendees; face masks must be worn at all times while on the event grounds. Completed Self-Declaration and Waiver of Liability Forms will be collected at Entry Welcome Center. NO EXCLUSIONS OR EXCEPTIONS. Face shields may be worn, but are not a substitute for a face mask. Due to COVID-19 Guidelines and the set Limit for this event, it is with regret that we are unable to allow spectators into the venue. No seating or eating will be allowed ringside. Physical distancing and attention to proper sanitization, and COVID-19 protocols are the responsibility of each individual on the event grounds. We thank you for your understanding and

COVID-19 Plan This guidance is based on what is currently known about the transmission and severity of COVID-19. Sources of guidance and planning include Centers for Disease Control, CDC, cdc.gov/coronavirus, California Department of Food and Agriculture (CDFA), cdfa.ca.gov, the California Department of Public Health (CDPH), cdph.ca.gov, Riverside County Public Health, rivcoph.org/coronavirus, and the American Kennel Club, AKC, akc.org. Information will be updated as it becomes available.

Best Practices Guidelines for Canine Event Facilities, Grounds, and Management The Officers, Board, and Members of the Club will take precautions to prevent the spread of COVID-19. It will act in a manner that incorporates Governor Newsom’s Executive Orders to protect individuals who participate in the Events and California families and the community. In addition, we will follow guidelines and regulations to protect those participating in the events (dog shows) as well as volunteers from COVID-19.

The events will be managed as private “Low Touch, Show and Go” events restricted to pre-registrants with no spectators. Exhibitors are asked not to congregate and to leave the grounds after they have concluded their competition in their assigned rings during their scheduled times.

Communicating the Plan The Show Committee and members have a strong commitment to following this plan to implement a safe event. The plan has been communicated to the Board, Officers, and Members of the Club. Policies, rules, and guidelines have been communicated in the Premium List, which is the required document that lists entry and other pertinent information about the dog show to potential participants. It will include the Face Mask Policy as well as the required Self Declaration and Liability Waiver forms. Additional notices appear in the Judging Program, which is provided to each entered participant and judge in advance of the event. The program lists the specific times and ring assignment for each competition that will take place. It also includes a map of the show grounds to assist participants in finding their competition area, vendors, restrooms, and Show Superintendent.

The Premium List (PL), sent electronically will advise potential attendees that individuals entering the events will be required to have a daily temperature check in addition to signing and submitting a Self-Declaration Form and a Liability Waiver which acknowledges they have

40 received notice of the rules, will abide by them, and affirms they have not been diagnosed with COVID-19 and are not currently sick. Notices will also be posted strategically on the event grounds. The PL is posted on the Show Superintendent’s website, www.jbradshaw.com and also on the Club’s Facebook page.

Verbal reminders to wear face masks at all times while on the show grounds except when actively eating or drinking and to practice social distancing will be announced periodically over the public address system. Finally, club members and volunteers will monitor compliance and issue verbal reminders and warnings if needed. Failure to observe the rules may result in individuals being asked to leave the event grounds. The club is prepared to enforce the safety measures in addition to all other AKC rules related to dog shows with consequences which may include a show committee hearing and further action imposed by AKC.

Canine Event Grounds Access – Guiding Principles  Restricted Access  Limited time of participation and potential exposure  Safe distancing  Protective face coverings  Regular sanitizing and good hygiene  Individual responsibility

• Restricted Access: Private event, not open to the public, pre-registration (entry) required. • Access will be limited to Judges, Stewards, Exhibitors, Handlers, Handlers’ Assistants, members, volunteers, Vendors, Photographers, Show Superintendents, Specialty Club members, AKC Field Representatives, and medical professionals (EMTs). The events will not be open to the public at large. A colored wrist band for approved entrants/attendees will be provided each day as an Entry Credential for the Events. The Show Superintendent will have the entry forms for all entered canines along with the names of their owners. • Entry to the Event each day will include daily temperature checks by a Screener. On their first day of attendance at the event, each allowed entrant/attendee must submit a Self-Declaration Form and Liability Waiver affirming that they have not experienced any symptoms related to COVID-19 nor have they tested positive during the 14 days prior to the event. Screeners and all entrants/attendees must wear face masks. A different colored wristband will be provided each day to signify a temperature check has been performed. • Anyone with an elevated temperature or who shows symptoms of COVID-19 or who has been exposed to a person with symptoms of COVID-19 (cough, shortness of breath, or fever) will not be permitted to enter. Individuals who do not submit the Self- declaration Form or Liability Waiver Form or who do not wish to wear a face mask will not be permitted to enter. • All entrants/attendees will be advised of the COVID-19 adherence to protocols and guidelines being implemented through the Premium List, the Show Superintendent’s website, and the Club’s Facebook page. • All entrants/attendees 2 years of age and older must wear a face mask while on the event grounds. Face masks may only be removed when an individual is actively eating or drinking. Face shields may be worn, but are not a substitute for a face mask. During the limited time when the mask is not worn, social distancing should be maintained.

41 General Venue Management – Guiding Principles  Signage posted throughout the Ground  All Events are scheduled  Private Event  Spectators not allowed  Public address announcements

• Post signage at all entrances to event grounds stating anyone who exhibits COVID-19 symptoms or has been in contact with an individual who has tested positive for COVID-19 or has experienced COVID-19 symptoms within the previous two weeks cannot enter the venue.

• Post signage throughout the venue and parking area including recommendations about good hygiene, ways to reduce the risk of COVID-19 transmission, as well as what to do and who to contact if someone suspects they have COVID-19 symptoms.

• Discourage congregating of individuals on the event grounds.

• When not actively competing, encourage individuals to stay in their set up area or if competing for the day has concluded to leave the event grounds.

• Eliminate all communal seating such as picnic tables or benches unless 6 feet of distancing between individuals from different family/housing units can be effectively maintained.

• Spectator seating will not be available for the duration of the event.

Canine Event Management – Guiding Principles  Private Show and Go Event  Assigned ring and scheduled times for competitions  Departure of grounds after competition is completed  Public address announcements about Group competition and scheduled time to line up  Limit crating near rings to 15 minutes before and after showing only  Practice social distancing in ring staging area and when in the ring competing except when judge is conducting individual dog examination  Adherence to Face Mask Policy

• Utilize electronic based systems and public address system to reduce amount of contact. • Develop a Premium List (PL) (entry packet) with COVID-19 guidelines and protocols, face mask policy, Self- Declaration and Liability Waiver Forms, and essential information pertaining to the Event grounds, screening procedures, and safety measures. • Practice social distancing in and around the Show Superintendent(s) and AKC Field Representative(s), vendors, exhibitors, volunteers, club members, and all attendees/participants. • All individuals must stay 6 feet apart while in the show ring, staging area, and on the show grounds with the exception of individual grooming/set up areas. • Utilize technology or contact-less delivery to ensure physical distancing of persons for all event activities, including, but not limited to announcements, scoring or recording by stewards and judges, and distribution of awards. • Encourage use of handwashing stations or hand sanitizer for everyone entering and leaving the premises.

42 • All participants/attendees 2 years of age and older are required to wear protective face coverings at all times except when actively eating or drinking. Face masks must cover nose and mouth completely. Face shields may be worn, but are not a substitute for face masks. Gaiters and vented masks will not be allowed. • Extra disposable face masks will be available at entry points, Show Superintendent’s table, and in each ring should an attendee lose, misplace, or have a damaged face mask. • Public address announcements will be made periodically to remind people that masks must be worn at all times unless someone is drinking or eating. Eating ringside will not be permitted. • Golf cars assigned to show officials will be sanitized before and after transporting judges and others.

Show Ring Management • During the competition, owners/handlers and their canines shall be kept physically distant from other canines and other canines and other owners/handlers at all times. • Stewards and ring crew shall maintain physical distancing from all individuals in the show ring. Judges will also maintain physical distancing except when examining a dog. • Individuals distributing awards or assisting judge shall be encouraged to wear disposable gloves which are changed between classes or rounds of competition. • Handlers or owners waiting for competition must adhere to physical distancing at all times. • There will be a separate entry and exit for each ring. • Exhibitors will pick up awards upon exiting ring. • Photographs will only be taken in one designated area on the grounds. Photos will be taken of dog and handler/owner only. Judges will be added during photo production. • Rings will be spaced to create distancing. • A designated show official shall be monitoring the show area to ensure physical distancing is maintained. • Paper towels and hand sanitizers will be available in each ring for judge and steward use. • Judges will be encouraged to use hand sanitizer between the examination of each dog.

Grounds Biosecurity Measures • Paper towels and hand sanitizer will be available in each ring, bathrooms, Show Superintendent’s table, club room, entry points, and elsewhere on the event grounds. • Individuals should touch only the equipment and supplies necessary for completing the tasks of caring for, exercising, or grooming their dogs. • The shared use of grooming products and supplies will be discouraged. Any equipment that is shared should be cleaned and disinfected before and after use. • Owners/handlers should keep individual dog buckets and towels in their set up area. Reserve the use of such to their own dogs. • When handling shared items such as trash receptacle lids, hoses, etc., use good biosecurity practices such as gloves, paper towels, hand-washing or other methods, as appropriate to avoid transmission. • Disinfect crate latches and handles, feed scoops, water buckets, spray nozzles, grooming supplies, brushes, and grooming table surfaces regularly after contact by dogs or individuals from different households.

43 Individual Responsibility Participants are required to sign waivers that acknowledge they understand and will follow the Event’s rules. Participants are expected to self-assess their health and potential exposure before attending. Participants are expected to bring what they need for self-care and to care for and clean up after their dogs. Participants are advised that minor children must remain with their responsible parent/adult at all times.

Cleaning and Disinfecting Measures to Prevent COVID-19 Transmission The virus can persist on non-porous materials (leather or nylon leashes and collars, crate latches or handles) longer than porous materials (cotton towels, crate pads, blankets). According to the CDC the coronavirus can survive in the air up to 3 hours, on copper up to 4 hours, on cardboard up to 24 hours, and on stainless steel and plastic up to 72 hours. The CDC disinfection guidelines for COVID-19 are here: https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/prepare/cleaning-disinfection.html

Although there is no evidence that dogs can contract or become ill from COVID-19, practice good hygiene by washing your hands with soap and water for a minimum of 20 seconds or, if soap and water are not readily available, using a >60% based hand sanitizer after touching a dog, communal areas, or communal equipment to prevent environmental spread of the virus. Hand sanitizer should be used only if hands are not visibly soiled. Soap and water should be used if hands are visibly soiled.

44 Suggested Best Practices for the Well-Being of Dog Sport Participants

General Practices 1. Clubs, officials and participants are required to follow state, local and facility guidelines that apply to the area and site where the event is held. 2. Practice social distancing consistent with guidelines in effect at the time of the event. Avoid congregating to the extent possible. 3. Consider wearing masks when in close proximity to others. Clubs should provide masks if desired for officials, judges and volunteers. 4. Consider wearing disposable or washable gloves. 5. Wash hands as frequently as possible. Have disinfecting spray at bathroom facilities for people to spray door handles (or anything else they touch). Consider hiring bathroom attendants to maintain maximum cleanliness. 6. If you utilize portable toilets, please ask for a hand washing station(s) to be delivered as well. 7. Avoid shaking hands, hugging, or other physical contact. 8. Avoid touching dogs that are not your responsibility. 9. Avoid common use pens/pencils – bring your own. 10. Disinfect surfaces in common use areas as often as possible (tables, chairs, doorknobs, etc.) Clubs and facilities may consider not providing chairs. 11. Meals - Avoid or stagger group lunches/dinners if possible. 12. Vendors should follow retail guidelines for the area. 13. Parking – Park with sufficient distance between vehicles if possible. If there is a parking fee, ask exhibitors to bring exact change. 14. Indoor show sites should work with facilities to have as many entrance/exits points open as possible. Hand sanitizer should be available at every entrance to the site and at multiple locations within the site. 15. Parking/unloading staff should wear masks and sanitize their hands following the assistance of each individual.
