Ang Mo Kio is one of the biggest and oldest residential towns and it has a rich history and culture. Some of our residents who made this place their home in the 1970s came from kampungs and brought with them a valuable “kampung spirit”. Today, we see many kind acts of neighbourliness demonstrated by residents who show care and concern for their neighbours as well as to workers in and visitors to Ang Mo Kio. They help to safeguard everyone’s health and safety, for example, by preventing mosquito breeding, clearing clutter at common corridors and spaces or simply keeping a lookout for suspicious behaviour around the neighbourhood. They also show appreciation to the estate cleaners and maintenance workers, the unsung heroes helping to make our home a pleasant place to live, work and play. Such acts may be simple but are truly heartwarming. I am confi dent we can all upkeep this spirit of neighbourly love in the new year, and be bboboundund totogethergether wwith the unifi ed goal of making our home a better aandnd sasaferfer oonene for all. To a ggreatree year ahead! Press Release
PRESS RELEASE Ministry of Education Reference No: Edun N25-02-004 Press Release No: 05904 Date 6 December 2004 Subject: SEVENTH PRINCIPALS’ APPOINTMENT CEREMONY 1 The Ministry of Education (MOE) will be appointing 70 Principals at the Seventh Principals’ Appointment Ceremony to be held on 30 Dec 04. This comprises 41 newly- appointed principals and 29 serving principals who will take up appointments in another school (please refer to Annex A for the details). 2 Now in its seventh year, the Appointment Ceremony for Principals is a key event organised by MOE to acknowledge the important role Principals play in building effective schools to achieve the Desired Outcomes of Education. The ceremony reflects the trust and responsibility that MOE confers on these senior education officers in school leadership. The Ministry's systematic process of appointment and rotation of principals not only enables schools to benefit from the infusion of fresh perspectives, but gives Education Officers opportunities to take on different challenges as part of their career development. 3. Principals are key to shaping and strengthening the traditions and ethos of the schools. They form the nexus between people and systems. While upholding the cherished traditions of the schools they have been entrusted with, Principals will inspire and influence their teachers, and work with parents and the community to introduce innovative systemic improvements to their schools. 4 Minister for Education, Mr Tharman Shanmugaratnam, will be the Guest-of- Honour at the 7th Principals' Appointment Ceremony. Ms Seah Jiak Choo, Director- General of Education, will present the Certificates of Appointment to all 70 principals.
