The source regions of migrants in the area were identified; the factors that influence their movements, as well as the remittances of migrants to their source regions were ascertained. A total of 384 copies of questionnaires were systematically administered with a frequency of 230 and 153 samples for migrants and non-migrants respectively. Amongst other findings from the analyses, it was established that Akpabuyo is home to migrants from other LGAs and States, especially BakassiLGA and EbonyiState. There were also migrants from other countries such as Cameroon and Equatorial Guinea. The Pearson‟s correlation analysis depicted significant relationship (P = 0.012) between distance to Akpabuyo and the number of migrants that come into the area, implying that distance significantly influences migration to Akpabuyo. Furthermore, the Correspondence Analysis (CA) showed a weak association between the pull and push factors in the area, buttressed by the chi-square testwhich showed insignificant statistical similarity (p = 0.118). It was also established that migrants remitted 74% of their income to their source regions. -

Accepted 21 December, 2011 This study investigated the relevance of tourism on the economic growth of Cross River State, Nigeria. Special focus was on the difference in visitations over the years under investigation to the various tourists attractions within the state. Information for the study was basically from the questionnaire survey and participatory research method. The generated data were analyzed using descriptive statistics such as mean, simple percentages and graphic illustrations. The study demonstrated that there was a steady increase in the number of tourists visit to the various attraction sites in the area and that the greatest increase was observed in the number of tourists visiting for the purpose of cultural festivals. The result show that tourism influenced employment status, including enhancement of the people’s income in the state. Based on the aforementioned findings, it is recommended that all stakeholders in the tourism industry should be involved in the planning and execution of tourism projects and that tourism activities be organized all through the year to ensure more tourists visitation and avoid seasonality in the tourism industry. Morphological traits in hair lichens affect their water storage Therese Olsson Student Degree Thesis in Biology 30 ECTS Master’s Level Report passed: 29 August 2014 Supervisor: Per-Anders Esseen Abstract The aim with this study was to develop a method to estimate total area of hair lichens and to compare morphological traits and water storage in them. Hair lichens are an important component of the epiphytic flora in boreal forests. Their growth is primarily regulated by available water, and light when hydrated. Lichens have no active mechanism to regulate their 2 water content and their water holding capacity (WHC, mg H2O/cm ) is thus an important factor for how long they remain wet and metabolically active. In this study, the water uptake and loss in five hair lichens (Alectoria sarmentosa, three Bryoria spp. and Usnea dasypoga) were compared. Their area were estimated by combining photography, scanning and a computer programme that estimates the area of objects. Total area overlap of individual branches was calculated for each species, to estimate total area of the lichen. WHC and specific thallus mass (STM) (mg DM/cm2) of the lichens were calculated. Bryoria spp. had a significantly lower STM compared to U. dasypoga and A. sarmentosa, due to its thinner branches and higher branch density. Bryoria also had a lower WHC compared to A. sarmentosa, promoting a rapid uptake and loss of water. All species had a significant relationship between STM and WHC, above a 1:1 line for all species except U. dasypoga. The lower relationship in U. dasypoga is explained by its less developed branching in combination with its thick branches. -

Mycobiology Research Article Lichen Mycota in South Korea: The Genus Usnea 1 1 1 1 2 1, Udeni Jayalal , Santosh Joshi , Soon-Ok Oh , Young Jin Koh , Florin Criçs an and Jae-Seoun Hur * 1 Korean Lichen Research Institute, Sunchon National University, Suncheon 540-742, Korea 2 Faculty of Biology and Geology, Babeçs -Bolyai University, Cluj-Napoca, 400015, Romania Abstract Usnea Adans. is a somewhat rare lichen in South Korea, and, in nearly two decades, no detailed taxonomic or revisionary study has been conducted. This study was based on the specimens deposited in the lichen herbarium at the Korean Lichen Research Institute, and the samples were identified using information obtained from recent literature. In this study, a total of eight species of Usnea, including one new record, Usnea hakonensis Asahina, are documented. Detailed descriptions of each species with their morphological, anatomical, and chemical characteristics are provided. A key to all known Usnea species in South Korea is also presented. Ohmura) Parmeliaceae [1] (Lecanorales, Ascomycota), with ca. 300 Articus from the subgenus Usnea. The subgenus Eumitria species, and shows a world-wide distribution [2, 3]. Due to (Stirt.) Zahlbr. and sections Usnea Dill. ex Adans. and a fruticose habit and a beard like appearance, it is easily Ceratinae (Motyka) Y. Ohmura were segregated from the recognized, but difficult to identify up to species level due subgenus Usnea based on the molecular analysis reported to the presence of varying characteristics [4, 5]. -

A week-long commemoration was undertaken with several activities including solidarity walk, cultural displays, musical performances, friendly soccer games by adults and children, fashion parade, livelihood exhibitions, COVID-19 vaccination, essay/debate competitions and exhibitions of handcraft/technological inventions in Akwa Ibom, Benue, Cross River and Taraba States. PROTECTION Protection Monitoring ■ UNHCR collaborated with twelve government agencies, national and international partners to systematically identify protection incidents, analyse the protection risk and refer cases to partners providing protection and multisectoral assistance, including legal assistance, registration/documentation, advocacy, capacity building, awareness sessions, services related to Gender-Based Violence (GBV) and material assistance. ■ In Benue, Cross River and Taraba (BCT) States, UNHCR and partners undertook at least 30 Joint border monitoring visits, to assess the presence and needs of new arrivals, advocate for the protection of refugees and ensure that refugees have access to territory. -
