THE CIVIL DEFENCE REGIONS NOTICE 1980

PURSUANT to section 15 of the Civil Defence Act 1962, the Minister of Civil Defence hereby gives the following notice.

NOTICE 1. Title and commencement-( 1) This notice may be cited as the Civil Defence Regions Notice 1980. (2) This notice shall come into force on the 14th day of October 1980. 2. Declaring civil defence regions-For the purposes of the Civil Defence Act 1962, New Zealand is hereby divided into civil defence regions with the names and boundaries set out in the Schedule hereto. 3. Revocations-The Civil Defence Regions Notice 1979* and the Civil Defence Regions Notice 1979, Amendment No. 1 t are hereby revoked. THE NORTHERN CIVIL DEFENCE REGION ALL that area comprising the districts of all local authorities (other than those districts specifically included by this Schedule within another civil defence region) situated in that portion of the North Island lying to the north of a line drawn from the sea coast at its junction with the eastern boundary of the County of Opotiki; thence along the southern and south-eastern boundaries of the County of Opotiki, the District of Whakatane, and the County of Taupo; thence north along the western boundary of the County of Taupo to its junotion with Waitomo District boundary; thence west along the southern boundary of the District of Waitomo to the sea.

EXPLANATORY NOTE This note is not part of the notice, but is intended to indicate its general effect. This notice, which comes into force on 14 October 1980, consolidates the existing notices dividing New Zealand into civil defence regions and recognises 6 new civil defence regions. The new regions are Northland, Waikato, Thames Valley, Tongariro, Horowhenua, and Wellington. The areas within the boundaries of the new regions are no longer within the boundaries of the Northern and Central Civil Defence Regions.
