GETTING IT DONE ON AND OFF THE FIELD: Preston Snavely has been named a candidate for the 2021 Senior CLASS Award. An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School®, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities. Snavely is 3-1 and has a 3.35 ERA in seven appearances and starts on the mound this season. He has only allowed 14 earned runs on 32 hits with 30 strikeouts in 37 2/3 innings of work going into the series at Tulane. Snavely graduated with a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice in May 2020, with a 3.88 GPA. He currently has a perfect 4.0 GPA in his pursuit of a graduate degree in sport management. To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character and competition. The 30 candidates will be narrowed to 10 finalists in May, and those 10 names will be placed on the final ballot. The Senior CLASS Award winner will be announced during the 2021 College World Series® in June.

Eric Wedge was named the Head Baseball Coach at Wichita State in May, 2019, and recently The Wedge Resume completed his first season in the dugout with the Shockers. First Team All-Valley: 1989 In his three years as a Shocker, Wedge played in 226 games and hit .333 with 212 runs, 257 hits, Second Team All-Valley: 1988 54 doubles, four triples, 45 home runs, 206 RBI, 173 walks and 21 stolen bases. He was a member All-MVC Tournament Team: 1987, 1988 of three NCAA Tournament teams, two College World Series teams, three Missouri Valley Conference regular-season title teams and helped lead Wichita State to the 1989 National Championship. Member of the Missouri Valley Conference Hall of Fame, Wichita State Sports Hall of Fame and the Missouri Valley Conference All-Centennial Team Wedge, a native of Fort Wayne, Ind., was drafted in the third round of the 1989 Major League Led the NCAA in walks and total bases in 1989 Baseball Draft by the Boston Red Sox. Cleveland Indians Minor League System: 1998-2002 In October of 2002, Wedge was named the manager of the Cleveland Indians, becoming the 1999 Carolina League Manager of the Year youngest full time manager in history. The 2005 team won 93 games and 2001 International League Manager of the Year narrowly missed qualifying for the postseason. Wedge finished runner-up in the American League Manager of the Year voting. 2001 Baseball America Triple A Manager of the Year 2002 Sporting News Minor League Manager of the Year In 2007, Wedge led the Indians to the Central Division title, and they defeated the Yankees in the ALDS before falling to the Red Sox in seven games in the ALCS. For his efforts, he was named American League Manager of the Year. Cleveland Indians: 2003-09 561-573 overall record Wedge ended his coaching stint in Cleveland after the 2009 season, and in October of 2010, 6-5 in the postseason he was named manager of the Seattle Mariners. He won 213 games over three seasons with the 2007 American League Manager of the Year Mariners. 2007 Central Division champions After leaving the Mariners, he spent two years as a studio analyst for ESPN’s Baseball Tonight in 2007 Postseason berth 2014 and 2015.
