I had an opportunity to visit Rockwell Community News & Events School this week. In each class, I asked students what they were looking forward FAQs to in the holiday season. While many 2017-2018 School Calendar students said “presents”, most were School Closing /Delay Info. looking forward to the time they would be spending with their families. @BethelCTSuper On behalf of our Board of Education and all of our staff I wish you a very happy holiday season. May you enjoy peace- Upcoming filled time with family and friends in the Events coming days. This is such a tremendously busy time of year often filled with much happiness, school concerts, and acts of generosity that often go unnoticed and December 25-29 unreported, acts that create the glue that binds a strong community. I am proud Holiday Recess to be part of the Bethel community. Schools Closed A SERVICE FOR BETHEL RESIDENTS January 1 New Year’s Day ANNUAL BETHEL HIGH NJROTC CHRISTMAS TREE PICK-UP Schools Closed SATURDAY- JANUARY 6, 2018 Please support the Bethel High School Navy JROTC program and let them pick up your Christmas tree to recycle it. All trees will be mulched and taken to a local farm. PLEASE have trees out by 9am. Trucks will be out picking up trees between 9am-Noon. (Snow date is Sunday, 12-3 PM) A $10.00 donation is suggested and goes toward Educational Programs for our cadets. PLEASE make checks out to “Bethel NJROTC Boosters” and leave in an envelope taped inside your storm door or other accessible area. Kindergarten Registration Kindergarten 2018-2019 Kindergarten registration will begin in January 2019. 2018-2019 How to Register for Kindergarten We look forward to partnering with you in your child’s education! Last year we updated our Proof of Residency requirements. Connecticut State Statute require that students who attend our schools are permanent residents of Bethel. Parents are asked to show Proof of Residency when they initially register for school and if they move within Bethel. Brochures will be available at Berry, Johnson and Rockwell Schools. Applications will be available at the open house and the main office of Berry School after January 10th. Snow date January 17, 2018 The Open House is an adult only event FOR MORE INFORMATION CALL 203-794-8677 Pre-School Screening Are you concerned that your child may be experiencing difficulties or delays with talking, play skills, problem solving skills or making their needs known? If so, you and your child (3-5 years old) are encouraged to participate in a Circle of Friends screening. While meeting the staff to discuss your concerns or ask questions regarding your child’s development, your child will take part in informal play activities that include songs and motor activities. The preschool team includes the Supervisor of Special Education, Preschool Special Education Teachers, Speech/Language Pathologist, Occupational Therapist, Physical Therapist and School Social Worker. Screening dates for the 2017-2018 school year are: Wednesdays from 10:00-10:45 AM, January 17, 2018, February 28, 2018, March 28, 2018, April 25, 2018, May 30, 2018 If school is closed because of inclement weather, the pre-school screen will be cancelled. Pre-registration is appreciated but drop-ins are welcomed. For more information, please contact Kate Coffey at 203-794-8679. Bethel Central PTO Membership The Bethel Central PTO was established to bring together the 5 school PTOs and also allow families with children at multiple schools to only pay one set of membership dues and automatically become a member at all the schools their children attend. In September, the Bethel Central PTO kicks off the Bethel Central PTO membership drive with their annual Phone Book sale*, where for the price of your membership you get a copy of the 5 school phone book. But the opportunity for membership doesn't end after their Phone Book drive ends. You can become a member of the PTO all year! All proceeds from Bethel Central PTO memberships get put to use in the district. The state 'e two largest schools (Kansas University at Lawrence and Kansas State University at Manhattan) tried unsuccessfully for ~^ny years to gain legislative funds to start a state-wide ETV net- work. This thesis is the story of efforts for a thirty-six yeai period to establish educational television in a state that is now surrounded by large state-wide ETV systems. The efforts of the state schools failed in the Legislature, and Washburn Uni- versity (a small municipal university in Topeka , Kansas) even- tually becaae the operator of the only Kansas ETV station broadcasting in June, 1°68. On January 18, 1933, I visited the pro11osed Sand Hills National :.~onumcmt, California, in company with Mr. Robert Hays, Secretary of· the El Centro Chamber of Commerce. '.~hese Sand Hills are located in Imperial County, California, and are sometimes referred to as the Salton Basin sand dunes. They are from three to six miles in nidth for inost of their length, but taper to a narrow width at the northern end. 'I1110y are forty mile:s in length, Assmning an average width of three and one-half miles, the Sand Eills cover an area of approximately 140 square miles. They extend some three or four miles into :\1exico. It is proposed to establish as a-na­ tional monument the southern portion of these dunes, approximately that portion lying within Township 19 and 20 East, Range 16 South. The Sand Hills are crossed by U. s. Highway 80 and are, therefore, readily accessible and are seen by many thousands of motorists every year. The travel during the winter months is particularly heavy since climatic conditions are then most favorable in this region. Two national m::muments have already been established comprising the outstanding sand dune areas of the United·states. These are the Great Sand Dunes of the San Luis Valley, Colorado, which are believed to be the highest and most spectacular dunes in the country, and the :'t'hite Sands of New l'.iexico, which are a part of what are believed to be the largest dunes of the United States and are unique in coniposition, since the dunes are ninety-five per cent pure gypswn.
