Swim Clinic with Conor Dwyer & Madisyn Swim Clinic with Conor Dwyer & Madisyn Cox Conor Dwyer is a proud Chicago native who grew up doing lots of different sports. At 16 he decided to get serious with swimming but wasn’t recruited out of high school. He was able to land a spot at University of Iowa and within one year, he shot up the national rankings and transferred to Florida. With Ryan Lochte as his new training partner, Conor moved to the top of the world rankings in the 200 free and 200IM. At the 2012 London Olympics he helped the USA win gold in the 4x200m free relay. Later Conor moved to Baltimore to train with Michael Phelps and helped USA win gold in the 4x200m free relay at the 2016 Rio Olympics. He is now training in Los Angeles, preparing for his 3rd Olympics in Tokyo 2020. Conor proves that even late bloomers can accomplish great things by learning something from every teammate and coach you have and never giving up! About Madisyn Cox Arguably the greatest swimmer ever from Lubbock, TX, Madisyn had a stellar collegiate career at the University of Texas from 2014-2017. She has represented the USA at the World Champs in 2014, World University Games in 2015 and with her steady consistent improvement she won bronze at the 2017 World Champs in the 200m IM! Now she has her eyes set on racing the 200 and 400m IM at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. Madisyn is a model student-athlete and shows that big things can come out of small towns! Cost of the clinic is $30 and registration is limited. To register email Serena Reynolds at [email protected]. You will receive a conformation email and payment instructions. .

You will also find the standings of the first three places in all events for men and women at the Olympic Games followed by several classifications which are listed either by the number of titles or medals by swimmer or National Federation. It should be noted that these standings only have an historical aim but no sport signification because the comparison between the achievements of swimmers of different generations is always unfair for several reasons: 1. The period of time. The Olympic Games were not organised in 1916, 1940 and 1944 2. The evolution of the programme.

CA is one of 59 Local Swimming Committees (LSCs) within USA Swimming. USA Swimming is one of the National Governing Bodies (NGBs) under the United States Olympic Committee (USOC) and the USOC is part of the Federation Internationale de Natation (FINA). FINA is the swimming organization within the International Olympic Committee (IOC)….the group that organizes the Olympics. So, your club is the grassroots level of membership for swimming that goes all the way up to the Olympics! From San Luis Obispo down to San Clemente and over to Las Vegas, we have about 25,000 athletes, coaches, officials and parent volunteers in our membership. Because our LSC is so large--the largest membership in the country--we have 6 Geographic sub- Committees: Coastal, Desert, Eastern, Metro, Pacific and Orange to help with administration and local competitions. CA oversees registration for all our clubs and individual members, swim meet sanctions—roughly 400 swim meets per year are sanctioned/approved by CA, multiple camps and all-star teams, as well as educational programs for everyone.

  • Sexism in the 2016 Rio Olympics in 1896, in the Bay Of
Abigail Merrill ENGL 1010 Professor Womack Swimming in the Men’s Lane: Sexism in the 2016 Rio Olympics In 1896, in the Bay of Zea off the coast of Piraeus, thirteen males from four different nations competed for the first medal in one of the most exciting and popular sports in Summer Olympic history. (“Swimming at the Summer Olympic Games”) It wasn’t until later, at the 1912 Stockholm Summer Olympic Games, that women were included into this exhilarating sport. Fast forward 104 years and women are dominating Olympic swimming and proving to be fierce competition; however, they still face a great deal of sexism. For years, women have shined at sports, but have been belittled by the sexism of the media. In 1988, Krisztina Egerszegi became the youngest swimmer to win a medal. Her nickname was “the Little Mouse,” “due to her youth, size and a phonetic similarity between her name and the Hungarian word for mouse.” (Anderson, Race, Bowmile, & Keith) Then, in 1996, Amanda Beard “became the second-youngest swimmer in American history to win an Olympic medal.” (Anderson et al.) Oddly enough, the main focus of this 14-year-old gold medal winner’s Olympic appearance was her infamous teddy bear that she carried around everywhere. In the media portrayal, there is often a bias towards men, which impacts female swimmers. Even injuries are reported on differently with male and female swimmers. Through the deification of Michael Phelps and the hyper-focus on women’s’ role in their family and their appearance, female Olympic swimmers are not gaining the recognition that they deserve for their accomplishments.
