NEVADA STATE OF NEVADA Department of Conservation and Natural Resources STATE HISTORIC Steve Sisolak, Governor PRESERVATION OFFICE Brad ley Crowell, Director Rebecca L. Palmer, Administrator. SHPO May 12, 2020 Bradley Carlson Chairperson Historical Resources Commission City ofReno 1 E. First Street PO Box 1900 Reno, NV 89505 Dear Chair Carlson: We are pleased to inform you that a property within your jurisdiction, the Trinity Episcopal Cathedral at 200 Island Avenue, has been determined eligible for the National Register of Historic Places and a nomination is being drafted. The National Register of Historic Places is the federal government's official list of historic properties worthy of preservation. Under the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA), §101(c)(2)(A), pertaining to Certified Local Governments, the local historic preservation commission must prepare, and approve in a public meeting, a report stating the opinion of the local government regarding the proposed nomination. That report should be signed by a representative of the commission, and the chief elected local official. After both the commission and chief elected official agree on their opinion, the report should be submitted to the State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO). That report should be received within sixty (60) days of receipt of this letter, unless an expedited period has been negotiated. We have enclosed the State of Nevada's CLG Approval form, which can be used to substitute for the report. If both the commission and your chief elected official agree and sign the form, please return this form to the State Historic Preservation Office at the address above. The nomination is also on the State of Nevada's Board of Museums and History agenda for review and approval under 36 CFR 60.6(j) currently scheduled at the following location: June 11 and 12, 2020 Stewart Indian School 5500 Snyder Avenue Carson City, NV 901 S. Stewart Street, Suite 5004 -^ Carson City, Nevada 89701 -^ Phone: 775.684.3448 Fax: 775.684.3442 www.shpo.nv.gov If approved, the nomination will be forwarded to the Keeper of the National Register in Washington, DC for review and potential listing in the National Register of Historic Places. The National Register program is maintained by the National Park Service. Listing the Trinity Episcopal Cathedral in the National Register will provide recognition of the community's historical importance and assures protective review of federal projects that might adversely affect the character of the historic properties. Should the identified resource be listed in the National Register, please note the following: The federal government offers investment tax credits for rehabilitation which may apply. The federal government will not place limitations on the properties. The federal government will not attach restrictive covenants nor seek to acquire properties. Property owners are not required to open their property to the public. Attached please find a notice explaining the effects of listing in the National Register as well as the rights and procedures by which an owner may comment or object to the proposed listing. Should you have any questions regarding the nomination process please contact Kristen N. Brown, National and State Register Coordinator, at (775) 684-3436 or at knbrown(a)/shpo.nv.gov.
