Nova User Guide © Audiostore Ltd Audiostore Nova Streaming Audio Jukebox system Nova Short User Guide Version v3 © Audiostore Ltd Thank you for choosing an Audiostore Nova appliance. This is a multi-functional device incorporating a custom version of Sonicorbiter software. This outline guide mainly covers use of the Squeezebox Server (LMS). Please find additional information on our web-store page. Briefly press the Power button. System will be ready in 60 seconds. Turn Off in the same way. Check that power adapter does not run hot and turn off immediately if it is more than comfortably warm. Ensure that power adapter is well ventilated, and not covered or in direct sun. 1st Step - Find the Nova interface by typing www.sonicorbiter.com (or enter IP address) into address bar of any browser. (To find IP address install 'fing' onto any Apple/Android, tablet/phone) Go to Software Manager/Update to ensure latest features are installed on your system. Add/Delete the Apps required for your needs from Nova Software Manager. Audio Output – With a DAC connected, Nova has capabilites that far exceed those of most 'streamer' systems. Nova systems may also have a built-in audio (called Rear Socket) or digital SPDIF Coax or Optical output. • USB DAC - Go to Settings and select Squeezelite (LMS) or Roon Ready (Roon) or MPD/DLNA (MPD). Select USB DAC then Save Changes. • Other output – As above, you can select Rear Audio Socket or SPDIF digital, if these have been ordered. • Network output- ‘Rendu’ devices appear as players on relevant software. For DLNA streamers search their menu for Sonocorbiter media files. Playback Apps LMS – Squeezebox Apps for Apple/Android can be used with LMS. Popular are Orange Squeeze(Android) and iPeng / Squeezepad (Apple) but there are many others + you can control most functions directly from the Nova browser interface. Playback Apps Roon – You can use Roons own playback Apps for Apple/Android, or from a Roon installation on a Windows or Apple computer. You will need a Roon licence (or free trial) to access Roon. Roon Use – Enable Roon Server and/or Roon Ready Player from Nova Software Manager. Configure DAC in Settings/Roon Ready. Also on- board Local output or Digital output, if fitted. Roon Ready player, Network players and players connected to a NAA such as UltraRendu will be detected as network players within the Roon App. (Settings/Music) Setup for LMS and Roon Logitech media Server (LMS) Roon Go to App Manager and install: Squeezebox Server, Squeezelite Roon Server, Roon Ready Prepare Player – Nova/Settings then: Squeezelite: Roon Ready: Choose USB DAC, Save Changes Choose USB DAC, Save Changes (Select Digital for inbuilt SPDIF/OPTO) (Select Digital for inbuilt SPDIF/OPTO) Play your music Go to playback App – Sonicorbiter is the Open Roon App. Leave Library location at player name defaults. Go to Settings/Music Re-name in Squeezelite Settings if you wish Audiostore Nova will be detected as a ‘Network Player’ Name it as Lounge etc. Other Find our pre-set radio stations in Playlists You can set Roon for 1st level MQA palyback to all DACs (96K playback) Sonore UPnP Bridge can enable NAIM/Linn/Melco (and others) for playback from Roon 1. First set your streamer to media player. Go to Nova/Settings/Sonore UPnP Bridge. Select your device/Save 2. In Roon, Enable Squeezebox Support,. Then go to Roon/Settings/Audio. Enable the SonoreUPnP Bridge under Network Please ask us about alternative direct playback methods to NAIM etc which can offer improved functionality Ripping a CD - select the CD Import Icon. Multiple databases are searched and verified with audio fingerprints. Album Art will be displayed during conversion. When the CD has ripped it will be ejected and tracks/cover-art entered to the music library (and re-indexed) Nova Rips audio CDs only. CDs should comply with ‘Red Book’ specifications. Nova will also stream video files copied from external sources to its sonicorbiter/files/movies folder (load a DLNA server App, for example, PLEX) Flac - Free Lossless Audio Codec is a high quality format specifically designed for audio so efficiently compresses CDs without quality loss. Size is typically 250MB-450MB per CD. Nova defaults to lossless compressed (level 5) flac. Select Uncompressed flac if you prefer but files will be approximately x2 larger. Flac Mirror produces a lossy MP3 copy for portable players. Find these in the music/mp3 folder Copy music to Nova – Nova should appear as a network file server on PC/MACs. Otherwise type win+R and enter \\ip address\ Copy existing music and downloads to sonicorbiter/files/music/flac Use sub-folders if you wish. For Squeezebox Server, go to Squeezebox Server/Settings/Basic settings/Look for new or changed media files. From time to time 'Spring Clean' your music library with 'Clear library and re-scan everything' This will not delete any music but will re-build all library indexes and the album art cache files that are used to speed-up searching You can adjust many other settings in the Squeezebox server. It is a good idea to make a note of any changes made as it may be difficult to remember later. Most playback Apps also have 'Re-scan library' and other functions as ‘Maintenance’ features Roon, and other servers have similar facilities LMS users should register at http://www.mysqueezebox.com/user/login and enter details into Nova/Apps/Squeezebox Server/Settings Squeezebox (or Squeezebox compatible) network players – provide all Nova features. Controlled by Squeezebox App/browser they allow multi-room playback. Our NetDAC is an example or connect by microRendu/USB DAC for ultimate quality locally or in other rooms. Drive Mounter – Use this to mount a USB or NAS drive for playback of music, pictures, and video. You may need to adjust the settings in Roon, LMS etc to allow the software to see the correct folders. (The USB drive is formatted by Nova when first used so existing data will be lost) Restore your files by attaching the drive to a network computer and copying them back. Nova supports many streaming services. (Direct, Network or Squeezebox compatible outputs) Use with Sonos -– Load Sonos Auto Connect App from Software Manager. Go to Settings/Sonos Auto Connect, tick the box, Save Changes. It usually connects the Sonos Automatically but it may be a few minutes before you see music as Sonos will index first. If manual connection is required. Set the Sonos library on your Sonos suppliedApp. User name/password is NOT required.(\\sonicorbiter\storage\music\flac for Apple devices) (//sonicorbiter/storage/music/flac for Android) You may not see the music for a few minutes as Sonos will index first. Use the Sonos supplied App for playback. The Sonos library is limited to ~64,000 tracks and Sonos will NOT *play HiRes music (Except via Roon Server) Tidal - Squeezebox Server / App Gallery (Tidal) Enter your details on mysqueezebox.com site (or via Roon) Spotify Premium - Squeezebox Server / Settings (RHS bottom) / Advanced / Spotty Spotify for Squeezebox/Agree/Apply. Then follow the instruction in Settings. When done you will find the Spotify Playback App on theMainpage Squeezebox Apps list Qobuz - Squeezebox Server / Settings (RHS bottom) / Advanced / Qobuz/ Deezer - Squeezebox Server / App Gallery (Deezer) / Enter details on mysqueezebox,com site Tune-in Radio – Sign up for a Tune-in account (Radiofeeds also supported) Radio Paradise (Free) – Including support for 'Play another Tune' (play a different record with forward key) BBC iPlayer Extras - This unofficial App plays all BBC programmes from the last few years. Pre-set under Radio on Squeezebox Server DLNA Server – (For use with: NAIM. Linn, Marantz, Denon etc) Load the DLNA Server App from Software Manager. Nova will been seen by DLNA Control Point Apps as a DLNA Server. You may also install Minimserver and/or BubbleUPnP for broader range of UPnP capabilities. Airplay devices can play through the system if the Shairport App is enabled (this is Airplay input from device to Nova not an output) HQ Player NAA – Load the App from Software Manager. You also need the HQPlayer (paid App) main application running on a separate computer or a high power Sonicorbiter server such as Prestige Xtreme (or XL for less demanding) YMPD – is a lightweight MPD (Music Player Daemon) web client, tuned for minimal resource usage Subsonic – .Your complete, personal media streamer. - Access your music remotely (paid App) PLEX – Load PLEX from Software Manager. Use a Plex Renderer app running on another device to render, for example, movies to a screen. Many Smart TVs can act as a Plex renderer. PLEX Media Server can also act as a DLNA Server to other devices (paid App) Bliss – This App can help with managing your music library and correcting/checking music tagging (paid App) SongKong – an alternative to Bliss, this subscription App can help with managing, correcting/checking music tagging (paid App) Drive Caching.- If installed, automatically stores recently played CDs on a SSD then powers down the hard drive, reducing wear, lowering power and improving performance. So most of the time the it will be completely silent.
