Dear Member of Congress, As Your Constituent, I'm Writing to Welcome Dear Member of Congress, As your constituent, I'm writing to welcome you to the 114th Congress and send best wishes for the year ahead. As you address our nation’s opportunities and challenges in the new session, I urge you to consider the role that breastfeeding plays in giving mothers and their children important and long-lasting health benefits. These impacts are so substantial that “breastfeeding saves dollars and makes sense,” not just for FAMILIES, but also for EMPLOYERS and the ECONOMY. The great majority of pregnant women and new mothers want to breastfeed, but they face significant barriers in community, health care, and employment settings. While many national initiatives are already underway, you have a critical role to play as well. Thank you for your careful consideration of the following policy priorities you can move forward in the 114th Congress to help support breastfeeding: COMMUNITIES • Increase support for breastfeeding as part of existing community-based programs: e.g., the Women, Infants & Children (WIC) program, home visiting, Healthy Start, community health centers; • Authorize the FDA to regulate confusing and misleading infant formula marketing and labeling practices; • Support establishment of public spaces that are breastfeeding-friendly; HEALTH CARE • Maintain support for the CDC’s maternity care practice improvement initiatives; • Ensure equitable access to and effective implementation of insurance coverage for breastfeeding support and equipment, especially including alignment of Medicaid coverage to existing provisions for private plans and TRICARE; EMPLOYMENT • Extend the existing federal “Nursing Breaks” law to salaried workers and strengthen enforcement; • Establish paid family leave as a self-funded national insurance program that supports workers and businesses; and • Ensure that breastfeeding mothers can’t be fired or discriminated against in the workplace. As a member of the 114th Congress you can help “make change” for our nation’s breastfeeding families. We look forward to working with you during the upcoming session, and again, welcome! (Pictures by Alan Bertram ) The work party on Sunday 10 June saw further progress at Bacton Wood Lock with the chamber being pumped out revealing mounds of black mire and rubbish. A temporary dam had been erected below the site of the bottom gates creating a small pool and before removing the last of the water from the chamber small fish and water snails were collected and transferred to this pool. A couple of tons of mud were then laboriously pushed out of the lock revealing the “v” shaped bottom gate stops. This enabled careful measurements to be taken – data that will be needed when the manufacture of the bottom lock gates ultimately gets under way. As shown in these pictures the replacement brickwork of the lock has now been completed and the scaffolding was removed by the volunteers on 27 May in preparation for the drain down. It represents a complete transformation from only a couple of years ago and reflects great credit on Mr & Mrs Ashton. 2 Inside Bacton Wood Lock before the chamber was finally drained down. Already there is a steep drop down from the top sill as shown on the left, whilst on the right the volunteers clear small fish from the chamber.

INTRODUCTION. AMONGST the documents at the Public Record Office, to which the local historian directs his earliest attention, those known under the title of Inquisitiones post mortem occupy the foremost place. To the topographer and the genealogist they are equally valuable. There is hardly a family of any importance between the thirteenth and seventeenth centuries whose genealogy may not be confirmed and enlarged by a reference to these most interesting documents. Parochial and local history are also indebted to them for a mass of information unequalled elsewhere. These inquisitions are termed Chancery Inquisitions, because the writ directing them generally issued out of the Court of Chancery. They extend in an almost unbroken series over nearly four and a half centuries, commencing early in the reign of Henry III., and only terminating with the Civil Wars in the seventeenth century, when the feudal system finally broke down, to be abolished by law at the Restoration.

  • LEAG Leadership Rules
APPENDIX B: ELECTION RULES for the PARLIAMENTARY LABOUR PARTY LEADERSHIP ELECTIONS – the principles and key elements of the system. Initially approved by New Zealand Council on August 25th 2013, last revised on October 1st 2014 1. Introduction and definitions This document establishes the principles and essential elements of the election system for the Leader of the Parliamentary Caucus of the New Zealand Labour Party (“the NZLP”), and provides the administrative rules for those elections. These rules are designed to provide certainty for what will happen in any given circumstance. The three sections of the Electoral College are made up of two entities and one grouping, namely the New Zealand Labour Party, the Parliamentary Labour Party (the Caucus) and the various Party affiliates. These three elements of the Electoral College are referred to as the sections through this document. This document is mandated by a series of constitutional amendments passed by the 2012 Annual Conference of the NZLP, summarised as follows: Election of the Leader of the Parliamentary Labour Party – the Leader must be a Member of Parliament; an election for the position of Leader is triggered if there is a vacancy, or if requested by a simple majority of Caucus (at any time), or if the Leader fails to obtain the support of 60% plus 1 of the Caucus membership in a vote held within three months after a General Election (and in February 2013, as a one-off); the Electoral College comprises 40% party members, 40% Caucus (both One Member One Vote), and 20% affiliates (varying voting systems); the first version of administrative rules will be developed by NZ Council, in conjunction with the Caucus, by end 2012.

  • Assessment of Strength Parameters of Urm Blocks in Heritage Structures in the Philippines

Limited literature involving these structures provide challenges for sound engineering solutions in their preservation, considering their significance in a country’s history. Additional studies on the mechanical properties of masonry blocks – compressive, shear, flexural strengths, modulus of elasticity provide an insight on the behavior of structural components subjected to excessive loading conditions, and also establish parameters for seismic vulnerability assessments. The blocks considered are adobe, coralline limestone, and sandstone units, acquired from selected heritage structures in the country. Customized setups for shear and flexure tests were fabricated for lack of standard test methods. Results show that response of earth masonry to different load setup show monolithic behavior, distinct lack of elasticity, and intense deformability. Sandstone, while stronger in performance, exhibited very drastic failure mode in the form of sudden shear and chipping. Nevertheless, the masonry fabric proves to require further strengthening measures in resisting forces, as shown by their strength parameters.

  • Illegitimate Births in Gloucester, MA, 1855-1894
ILLEGITIMATE BIRTHS IN GLOUCESTER, MA, 1855 – 1894 The term “illegitimacy” is derived from the Latin illegitimus, meaning “not in accordance with the law.” A child is considered illegitimate when it is conceived and born outside of the regulatory sanctions of marriage. In order to facilitate genealogical research the Gloucester, Massachusetts, City Archive department is in the process of building a series of data bases of the births, marriages, and deaths that took place in Gloucester in the last half of the 19th century. As we entered birth information into this data base we wondered what became of those children identified as ‘illegitimate.’ The following is a result of those ruminations. Please note that the figures provided are not conclusive, as during the period 1860 to 1875 the legal status of the child was only sporadically noted in the official records – an interesting fact in and of itself. Also, at the time of this survey, deaths were only available in an easily searchable format for the years between 1851 and 1873. Obtaining the figures from 1874 to 1894 would have consumed more time than was available to this researcher. Nonetheless, certain conclusions can still be drawn from the easily obtainable records. Illegitimate births accounted for less than 1% of the overall births in Gloucester during the thirty-nine years spanned by the survey, and were equally divided between the sexes (108 boys and 107 girls). This figure seems extraordinarily low compared, for instance, to the year 2000 when approximately 26% of all births in Massachusetts were recorded as illegitimate. However, one must take into account various social factors.
