Ils ont hissé l'Afghanistan dans le top 10 mondial, mais redoutent que tout s'écroule: les joueurs de cricket afghan espèrent que les talibans tiendront leurs engagements de laisser leur équipe nationale et leur sport tranquilles. Le bruit des battes de bois frappant les balles résonne dans le stade international de Kaboul, où l'équipe nationale afghane prépare ses prochaines rencontres internationales. Une scène paisible qui semble surréaliste, quelques jours après la soudaine prise de la ville et le basculement du pays aux mains des rigoristes talibans. Et alors qu'à un peu plus de cinq kilomètres de là, à l'aéroport, des milliers d'Afghans tentent de fuir le pays dans une atmosphère tendue et chaotique. “On sent la peur dans leurs yeux, dans leurs voix, et même dans leurs messages”, a déclaré ce weekend à la BBC l'un d'eux, Naveen-ul-Haq, à propos de ses coéquipiers. “Les talibans ont dit qu'ils ne s'en prendraient pas aux sportifs, mais personne ne sait ce que nous réserve l'avenir”, a-t-il ajouté. Les internationaux afghans sont devenus des héros, parfois même des ambassadeurs de leur pays. À l'instar de l'ancien capitaine de l'équipe nationale, Mohammad Nabi, qui, deux jours avant la chute de Kaboul, implorait sur Twitter les dirigeants internationaux de soutenir l'Afghanistan pour ne pas le laisser “sombrer dans le chaos”. Importé par des Afghans de retour du Pakistan où ils avaient appris à y jouer dans des camps de réfugiés, le cricket est devenu très populaire dans le pays en peu de temps, à partir de la fin des années 1990. Son équipe nationale a connu une ascension fulgurante, parvenant à se hisser dans le top dix mondial pour les matches d'un jour en format Twenty20. Elle est devenue, à l'instar du drapeau national rouge, noir et vert, l'un des rares symboles d'unité d'un pays abonné aux conflits depuis des décennies. “Seul le cricket amène des nouvelles positives et rassemble les gens. Pour les Afghans c'est plus qu'un jeu, pour le pays c'est très important”, a expliqué Naveen-ul-Haq à la BBC. Le 19 août, des joueurs de cricket afghan ont marqué la fête de l'indépendance en postant sur Twitter des photos et émojis du drapeau national tricolore, désormais symbole du gouvernement déchu et de la résistance aux talibans, qui l'ont vite remplacé par leur drapeau blanc sur les bâtiments officiels. L'un d'eux, Samiullah Shinwari, a publié une photo de la prise de Kaboul par les talibans le 15 août. “Le jour où les Afghans ont perdu leur pays et où le monde n'a fait que regarder”, a-t-il amèrement commenté. Concentration impossible En raison du contexte et des blocages à Kaboul, la série de matches prévue contre le Pakistan le mois prochain au Sri Lanka a été reportée à l'an prochain. Et ce à la demande des dirigeants afghans, qui ont notamment mis en avant le trouble et la fragilité psychologique de certains joueurs face au retour des talibans. Des joueurs, notamment ceux qui jouent à l'étranger, s'inquiètent pour leurs familles, qu'ils tentent pour certains de faire sortir, en vain, du pays. “On oublie parfois de penser à l'Afghanistan pendant une minute, mais ça revient sans cesse”, a souligné Naveen-ul-Haq, ajoutant : “Quand vous voyez votre pays comme ça, c'est impossible d'être pleinement concentré sur le cricket.” AFP.
