alum.lu/comeback give.lu/giveback 2 Dear Lehigh Class Leadership Volunteer,

Thank you for investing your valuable time and resources in reunion. Each year, 1,200 alumni, family, and friends return to Old South Mountain to reconnect with each other and with beloved Lehigh. A renewed sense of Lehigh pride is instilled as attendees reflect back on their memories and experience on campus and learn more about how current-day faculty, staff, and alumni are impacting the world.

Reunion class leaders like you help make the reunion celebration extra special for fellow classmates by engaging peers to connect with Lehigh in a variety of meaningful ways.

By encouraging your classmates to “come back” to campus and to “give back” to your alma mater, you and your fellow alumni ensure a unforgettable, successful reunion celebration, while preserving the hallmark Lehigh experience for future generations of students.

This handbook outlines essential information to help you develop and implement a stellar reunion.

We hope you enjoy your volunteer experience, and we look forward to partnering with you in the months ahead.

With Gratitude,

Meghan Wolf ’02 ’03 Susan Lopez Director Director Reunion Giving Traditional Programs

alum.lu/comeback give.lu/giveback 3 The Importance of Alumni Volunteers Your volunteer involvement is an integral part of the university’s outreach efforts. Volunteers are able to personalize messages, increase the number of alumni contacted, and provide Lehigh with important insight regarding their classmates. This volunteer experience provides you with the opportunity to connect with classmates and gain an insider’s view of the university today. The Alumni Relations team is committed to making your volunteer experience successful and will provide resources to assist you with your outreach.

Your Role as a Volunteer • Lead by example by making a personally meaningful gift to Lehigh, while encouraging classmates to do the same • Help maximize the Reunion Class Gift Campaign and Alumni Weekend attendance by providing education and information to classmates; serve as primary point of connect for Alumni Weekend questions • Help plan special events for classmates • Participate in monthly conference calls and/or webinars with Alumni Relations staff liaisons and fellow class reunion volunteers to discuss progress, new initiatives, deliverables and deadlines • Assist in recruiting and managing additional volunteers • Conduct personal outreach to class members, particularly during challenges and blitzes • Attend Alumni Weekend: May 14 – 17 • Have a great weekend reconnecting and celebrating!

alum.lu/comeback give.lu/giveback 4 Top 10 Questions About Alumni Weekend

1. How do I register? Registration materials will be mailed out in February and online registration will be live in mid-February at alum.lu/comeback. Be sure to register by May 1!

2. Can I bring my family? Yes! There are family-friendly activities all weekend. When you’re ready for some “you time,” bring your kids to Lehigh’s fully accredited childcare center. NOTE: You must pre-register for childcare in order to guarantee your spot. Space is limited, so register by April 3!

3. Where do I park? Complimentary parking is provided in all campus parking areas, including the Alumni Memorial Parking Pavilion, the Campus Square Parking Garage and the Parking Garage.

4. Will transportation be provided during the weekend? Yes. Shuttle service is provided for your convenience. Shuttles pick up and drop off at most event locations on campus. Off-campus shuttle service will be available for attendees staying at select hotels.

5. Can friends from other classes attend Alumni Weekend? Absolutely! Alumni Weekend will celebrate the benchmark reunion classes, but all alumni, friends and family are invited to join in the festivities.

6. How will I know if my friends are coming back? As classmates register for Alumni Weekend, their names will appear on the attendee list on the Alumni Weekend website at alum.lu/comeback.

7. What should I wear? Plan for walking the familiar rolling hills of Lehigh’s campus! We recommend comfortable shoes and casual clothes for daytime events. For evening events we recommend business casual attire.

8. Will the fitness center be open? The fitness center will not be open during AlumniWeekend, but several fitness classes will be available including yoga on Friday, May 15 and Saturday, May 16, and a running group on Saturday, May 16.

alum.lu/comeback give.lu/giveback 5 9. Where should I stay? e Ther are hotel blocks at local hotels for your use. Housing is assigned by projected class needs and availability at each hotel. Please contact the hotel directly to reserve your room. Book early, because space is limited!

10. Where do I go when I arrive on campus? Your first stop on campus is Reunion Headquarters, located in the Alumni Memorial Building. There you will pick up your registration packet containing event bracelet, recognition items like ribbons for your name tag, and class giveaways.

alum.lu/comeback give.lu/giveback 12 Telling Your Lehigh Story

Every Lehigh story is unique and significant. Your own personal narrative can be the most compelling motivation for your fellow alumni to hear. Below are a few quotes from fellow class leaders:

“I initially started with the intention of business networking, but it has grown into so much more. Seeing all the great programs and projects Lehigh is spearheading, I want to help contribute and make a difference to the Lehigh Community and the world at large.”

Sara Nowlin ’99

“I love the continued connection to Lehigh through these volunteer programs. Fulfilling to continue the giving tradition that so many others have lead before us, as it is such a part of the Lehigh culture. It is also a great way to reconnect with classmates.”

Griff Welton ‘88

“Reflecting on how rich my college experience was I stammered with the realization of how many years had passed. Could it really have been 35 years ago?! I wanted to revisit those times. I wanted to reconnect with all who shared those incredible years with me. Volunteering for Lehigh opened that door. It transported me back and brought me forward. It has been a gift to correspond, talk, and interact with so many wonderful friends, acquaintances, and fellow alumni. The reward was fulfilling in multiples greater than the effort. Through volunteering I reaffirmed that the Lehigh bond is stronger than steel!”

Our class fundraising goal is to raise $#,###,### by June 30, 2015. In order to achieve this goal, we need leaders to join the Asa Packer Society, Lehigh’s annual leadership giving society. By making a gift commitment at the Asa Packer Society level ($1,000 or more), you are providing the University the fuel to build a rigorous learning environment that challenges students to develop their character and leadership skills so that they may become the leaders in tomorrow’s complex world. There are several ways to give: • 5-year commitment • One-time gift • Monthly gifts (ongoing) • Matching gifts Please make your Asa Packer Society gift online at give.lu/giveback. If you have questions about making your gift or commitment, please contact our Lehigh staff liaison, ______, at 610-758-####. Thank you again for your consideration, and I hope that you will be able to join us in Bethlehem to celebrate our ## reunion on Thursday, May 14, to Sunday, May 17, 2015. Warmest regards,
