Atlanta Braves Clippings Monday, June 29, 2020 Braves.com Braves set player pool; 4 spots remain By Mark Bowman ATLANTA -- Less than three weeks after being drafted, Jared Shuster was placed in the 60-man player pool the Braves submitted to Major League Baseball on Sunday afternoon. Shuster is not expected to make his MLB debut this year. But his inclusion on this list creates the opportunity for him to spend the next couple of months working out with some of the top members of the Braves’ development staff. First and foremost, these 60-man player pools were designed for teams to designate which members of their organization will be eligible for the 60-game regular season, which is slated to begin on July 23 or 24. But with a Minor League season this year seeming unlikely, teams also chose to fill some of these spots with their top prospects. The Braves’ pool actually includes each of their top 12 prospects (per MLB Pipeline’s rankings). But only two or three of those prospects has a shot of being added to Atlanta’s active roster at some point this year. The members of this prospect group who could be used by Atlanta this year include outfielders Cristian Pache and Drew Waters, right-handers Ian Anderson, Kyle Wright, Bryse Wilson, Jasseel De La Cruz and Huascar Ynoa, and left-handers Kyle Muller and Tucker Davidson. Shuster, a left-handed pitcher taken in this year's Draft with the 25th overall pick out of Wake Forest, is part of the group of prospects added to this list just to get some experience this year.

African-Americans players now standouts in baseball for negative reason By George Castle, CBM Historian Posted Wednesday, May 3rd, 2017 A light should have gone on in Commissioner Rob Manfred’s head as he handled the fallout from the racial slurs and physical attacks on Baltimore Orioles’ Adam Jones on May 1 at Fenway Park. Jones was the sole African-American player on the field for the Orioles at that moment. Second baseman Jona- than Schoop of Curacao was the only other player of col- or for the Orioles, but Jones is his team’s standout star. Once-a-year casual fans with no emotional or historical investment in baseball likely were the guilty parties. No enlightened individual who loves the game, and who has been sated with three Red Sox World Series titles since 2004 is going to give Jones the kind of grief that Jackie Robinson and early black baseball pioneers endured. Idiots spending hundreds of bucks on tickets and beer, among other inflated ballpark expenditures, would be- By his singularity in the out- have like fools let loose at Fenway. If you put them back field, Adam Jones attracted the in time, say, 48 years, no way would they try to get on an lunatic fringe in Fenway Park. Orioles outfield of Don Buford in left, Paul Blair in center and Frank Robinson in right. Robinson in particular would have given back tougher than he received. You could not single out one or even all three African-Americans, even in a supposedly less enlightened, than miscreants did Jones.

  • Socal Vs. Nocal? No Contest the Best Rivalry in Sports Heats Up
SoCal vs. NoCal? No Contest The Best Rivalry in Sports Heats Up By Chris Brown and Casey Shearer It s the latter half of September, which means the fall breezes are blowing and the leaves are changing. The smell of hot-dogs and stale beer is in the air; everybody wants peanuts and Crackerjacks; children run home from school and head to the sandlot. All of which are symptoms of pennant fever. Or at least they should be. But as we look around, nobody seems to care about baseball at all. In what is usually the most exciting time of the year for baseball fans, that special excitement is somehow absent. Even as Mark McGwire and Ken Griffey Jr. chase Babe Ruth and Roger Maris, and Larry Walker chases the triple crown, something is missing: What's missing, kosher hot-dogs? A players? strike? Roy Hobbs? Steve Howe and his crack? The Cubbies? Has baseball become so unpopular so as to lose the interest of all its fans? Is it just that baseball lacks that type of hype, flashy color and big-money that basketball purports or the bone crushing thrills of football? No, what's missing are those heated races that lead to a bad case of pennant fever. With less than two weeks remaining in the season, the playoff picture is all but set in stone. In the American League, Baltimore owns the East, Cleveland looks to have the Central wrapped up, Seattle should win the West barring a major collapse, and the Bronx Bombers have sewn up the wild card.

The following list of the five most improved farm systems in 2015 was compiled considering all methods of player acquisition: trade, Draft, international signing, even the Rule 5 Draft. This isn't a ranking of the top farm systems; that's something that will come in the New Year after the new prospects rankings come out.
