A’s Acquire LHP Buchter and DH Moss from the Royals Oakland Sends RHP Hahn and RHP Fillmyer to Kansas City

OAKLAND, Calif. – The Oakland A’s acquired left-handed , designated hitter and cash considerations from the in exchange for right-handed and , the club announced today.

Buchter began the season at San Diego and was 3-3 with a and a 3.05 ERA in 42 relief appearances when he was traded to Kansas City with and Brandon Maurer for , , minor leaguer Esteury Ruiz and cash on July 23. He went 1-0 with a 2.67 ERA in 29 appearances with the Royals and combined for a 2.89 ERA in a career-high 71 appearances overall. The 30-year-old left-hander allowed a .187 batting average, including .176 against left-handed hitters and .141 against first-batters faced. Buchter was originally a 33rd round selection by Washington in the 2005 draft and is 8-3 with a 2.85 ERA and .174 opponents batting average in 139 games over three seasons with Atlanta (2014), San Diego (2016-17) and Kansas City (2017).

Moss batted .207 with 22 home runs and 50 RBI in 118 games with the Royals in 2017. He hit all of his home runs as a designated hitter to rank fifth in the American League as a DH, and also made five starts at first base, three in left field and one in right field. The 34-year-old left-handed hitter is a .237 career hitter with 160 home runs and 473 RBI in 1016 games in 11 seasons with Boston (2007-08), Pittsburgh (2008-10), Philadelphia (2011), Oakland (2012-14), Cleveland (2015), St. Louis (2015- 16) and Kansas City (2017). Moss had his break-out season with the A’s in 2012 and hit .254 with 76 home runs and 220 RBI in 376 games in his three seasons with Oakland.

Hahn spent the first half of the 2017 season with the A’s where he was 3-6 with a 5.30 ERA in 14 games, including 13 starts. He also went 2-0 with a 4.32 ERA in six games, five starts, with Triple-A Nashville. The 28-year-old right-hander had his season interrupted by a two-week stint on the disabled list with Oakland (strained right triceps) and a one-month stint with the Sounds (strained left oblique). Hahn was acquired from San Diego following the 2014 season and is 18-20 with a 4.19 ERA in 53 career appearances, including 50 starts, in four seasons with San Diego (2014) and Oakland (2015-17).

Fillmyer spent the entire 2017 season at Double-A Midland and was 11-5 with a 3.49 ERA in 29 starts. He tied for second in the Texas League in wins and ranked fifth in ERA and (149.2). The 23-year-old right-hander was the A’s fifth round selection in the 2014 draft and is 22-24 with a 3.78 ERA in 84 games, including 75 starts, in four seasons in the A’s organization.
