Drawing and Painting’s Christmas Card Contest Mrs. Birkholz’s Drawing and Painting class held their annual Christmas Card Contest. v Girls Sports

Sports Summary By, Stephanie Findlay The girls basketball team is rolling along with their first game was on Thursday, De- cember 4, at Battle Lake. They have been having a rough start losing games against Battle Lake, Wheaton and their last game against Hankinson. They have an away game tomorrow

against Ortonville and then they go up to Wyndmere for a tournament on Saturday against FCT and again on Tuesday against Lidgerwood/Wyndmere. The Gymnastics season is off to a great start for the gymnasts of Lightning Gymnastics. Their first match was December 4 against Sisseton in Ortonville. They did fairly well. Second match was Saturday, December 6 against Benson in Morris. Tuesday December 9, the girls won against Paynesville! Their coaches are Sara Winter and Kallie Gustafson and there are 16 people on the team. They are most looking forward to the match in Hendricks, because they will be competing in a barn. Good Luck to all the gymnasts participating!

Jessaline’s Favorite Athlete: Shawn Johnson By: Michael Mckee Shawn Johnson is an American gymnast who won a gold medal for the balance beam at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, China when she was only 16 years old. In 2009, she was the winning contest- ant on Dancing with the Stars. American gymnast Shawn Johnson was born in Des Moines, Iowa on Janu- ary 19, 1992. After winning season 8 of Dancing with the Stars in 2009, Johnson began training for the 2012 Summer Olympics. Right before the 2012 Summer Olympics she had torn her ACL and had to miss the Summer Olympics. The injury Caused Her to get Total Knee Reconstructive Surgery. The Injury was so severe it caused her to retire at 20 years old! She retired because the frame of her body and her weight was so small that if she kept doing the stuff she did the surgery wouldn't have helped. She is now living in California and is an gymnastic analyst for the Big Ten Network

Boys Sports

Boys Sports Summary By: Sam Bauer The boys basketball team played the Hancock Owls a week ago. They were defeated with a score of 58-67. They also had a game on Tuesday against the Hillcrest Rockets. The boys team had a rough game. The Hillcrest Rockets have one of the best coaches in Minnesota. They play very good team defense. All number 21, from the Hillcrest team, did was cherry pick and get all easy points. The CGB boys have a game tomorrow against CTF at home. The Border West Buccaneers had a wrestling tournament in Wahpeton. They had a good first tournament. They had a match Tuesday in Lac Qui Parle. They lost both matches against KMS and Lac Qui Parle. The MBA Storm hockey team is currently 1-5 but they feel they are on an up- swing. Kyle Lampert is an unstoppable goalie nobody can score on him because he is lights out.

Erick’s Favorite Athlete: Michael Jordan By: Dalton Nilson Michael Jeffrey Jordan was born on February 17, 1963, in Brook- lyn, New York. He is the son of Deloris, who worked in banking, and James, who is an equipment supervisor. He is the 4th of 5 children. He has two older brothers, Larry and James Jr, one older sister, Deloris, and a younger sister, Roslyn. He at- tended Emsley Laney High School in Wilmington, where he played baseball, foot- ball and basketball. He was an American former professional basketball player for the Chicago Bulls and Washington Wizards. He played 15 seasons in the NBA. People say he is the best basketball player of all time. He was awarded 5 of the Most Valuable Player Awards and 3 All-Star Game MVP Awards. Besides being his NBA career, he is also known for Nike’s Air Jordan’s.
