First started as Marine Parade CDC, South East CDC has evolved over the years, from providing social and employment assistance to the community, to playing the role of a middle office to identify emerging needs within the community and rally partners and resources to co-create solutions to address these issues. The CDC continues to stay relevant and true to its purpose of why it was started – for the more able in the community to help the less able. Joining the guests were Dr Maliki Osman, Mayor of the South East District, as well as Emeritus Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong, Grassroots Advisers Ms Jessica Tan, Mdm Tin Pei Ling and Miss Cheryl Chan. Dr Maliki Osman, Mayor of South East District, shared, “South East CDC has come a long way since its beginnings, and we are happy to share that we have stayed true to our ABC mission – Assist the Needy, Bonding the People, Connecting the Community. We continue to be proactive and anticipate new challenges that affect the community, such as with demographic changes, economic uncertainties, a greater need for inclusivity, and potential racial and religious fault lines due to as terrorism and extremism. We will continue to work with our corporate and community partners as well as government agencies, broker relationships amongst them to develop innovative programmes in response to these challenges and other emerging needs. The annual South East District Meeting saw South East CDC’s General Manager, Kia Siang Wei, sharing on its achievement in its Financial Year 2016. Programmes highlighted touched on the three strategic thrusts of the Strengthen Social Infrastructure, Nurturing Volunteerism and Promoting Active Citizenry. Mayor Maliki also took the chance to share on plans and the CDC’s areas of focus for the new council term. Mayor, ESM Goh and Grassroots Advisers present also addressed questions from the audience in a Dialogue Session. It oversees the Marine Parade Group Representative Constituency (GRC), East Coast GRC, Fengshan Single Member Constituency (SMC), Mountbatten SMC and MacPherson SMC, and serves a population of about half a million residents. At the helm of South East CDC is Mayor Mohamad Maliki Bin Osman, who steers efforts in achieving the three strategic thrusts that guide the work of the CDCs.
