Leona Shoots the Lights out Leona Maguire, a Professional for Barely 10 Months, Has Set the Omega Dubai Moonlight Classic Alight
ROUND 2 THURSDAY MAY 2, 2019 Leona shoots the lights out Leona Maguire, a professional for barely 10 months, has set the Omega Dubai Moonlight Classic alight. By Kent Gray – Editor, Golf Digest Middle East FROM AMATEUR SUPERSTARDOM to the summit of the Omega Dubai Moonlight Classic leaderboard. Welcome to the astronomical talent that is Leona Maguire. In just her 17th round as a Ladies European Tour player, the former world amateur No.1 carded a sizzling eight-under- par 64 on Wednesday for the Faldo course record and a two- stroke lead over Germany’s Olivia Cowan after the opening round of the 54-hole Pro-Am. The 24-year-old Irishwoman banished any fears that playing under floodlights might be a disadvantage in pro golf’s first day-night event with a flurry of nine birdies. It could have been even better save for a bogey on the par-4 14th but that was a mere blip as Maguire continued her meteoric rise under the Faldo’s equally bright LED lights. 2019 PING JUNIOR SOLHEIM CUP EUROPEAN HANDBOOK 10TH – 11TH SEPTEMBER 2019 GLENEAGLES, SCOTLAND WWW.SOLHEIMCUP2019.COM [email protected] PINGJUNIORSOLHEIMCUPTEAMEUROPE INTRODUCTION TO THE EVENT The 2019 Solheim Cup and PING Junior Solheim Cup will take place at Gleneagles in Perthshire, Scotland the week of 9th September. The aim of the competition is to give junior golfers from both sides of the Atlantic the opportunity to gain international match play experience as well as the chance to meet, learn and be inspired by the professional players playing in The Solheim Cup. It will be the third time both The Solheim Cup and the PING Junior Solheim Cup are incorporated within The Solheim Cup week at the same venue which significantly enhances the profile of the junior event. This follows the success of the last two matches at Golf Club St. Leon-Rot, Germany, in 2015 and Des Moines Golf & Country Club in Iowa, USA, in 2017 where the matches were combined to great effect. In 2019, the junior tournament will move in closer proximity to the senior version and will be played on the Tuesday 10th September and Wednesday 11th September. This date adjustment ensures the PING Junior Solheim Cup will get the exposure and profile it deserves as it is positioned as an important part of a week where the hosts, VisitScotland, aim to make this the most family-orientated Solheim Cup to date. The aim of The 2019 Solheim Cup is to not only highlight the stunning assets of Scotland, the Home of Golf, but also build on the legacy of the successful 2014 Ryder Cup at Gleneagles. -
