BANBURY WESLEYAN METHODIST CIRCUIT (NM4/A) There may have been a Methodist meeting in Banbury as early as 1784, but their first chapel was purchased in Calthorpe Street in 1791. This served until 1811 when new premises were built in Church Lane (which were enlarged in 1828).

Banbury Methodist Society was at first part of the Northampton Circuit, then in 1793 it became centre of the new Banbury Circuit. In 1810 the circuit extended as far as Warwick and Kenilworth. As well as Banbury, it included chapels at Shotteswell, , , Wardington, Warmington, Bloxham, Chipping Warden, Sulgrave, Cropredy, Eydon, Adderbury, Lower Boddington and Grimsbury

BANBURY PRIMITIVE METHODIST CIRCUIT (NM4/B) The Primitive Methodists opened a small meeting-house at the rear of two cottages in Broad Street, Banbury, in 1839, which began as part of the Welton Circuit.

In 1842 the Banbury Primitive Methodist Circuit was formed with about 250 members. The earliest surviving schedules show that in 1896 the circuit consisted of chapels at Banbury, Mollington, Farthinghoe, Claydon, Hornton, Kings Sutton, Shenington, Tadmarton, Middleton Cheney, Epwell, Warmington, Shutford, Brailes, Radway, , Ratley and Tysoe. By 1932 the number of chapels had reduced to eleven

BANBURY (MARLBOROUGH ROAD) WESLEYAN (NM4/2) As early as 1791 premises were being used by Wesleyan Methodists in Banbury. A chapel was planned in 1863 and opened on 9 May 1865. Members of this congregation led the Calthorpe Street Mission, whose Hall was in use from 1904 to 1931, when it was sold.

BANBURY WESLEYAN SCHOOLS (NM4/2A) In 1900 the Board of Education closed Crouch Street British Schools (which had been founded in 1839) in Banbury, so to accommodate more than 500 children, the Wesleyans built an undenominational school instead, and in 1902 opened the Dashwood Road Schools. In 1905 the schools became controlled by Banbury Borough Council, which had become the Local Education Authority for the town in 1902
