Jazz, of course, has its fair share of supergroups too. Sometimes, one supergroup comes along that really is very special indeed. The Printmakers is such a group. The group formed at the instigation of Steve Mead at The Manchester Jazz Festival several years ago and since then has gone from strength to strength. Award winning Nikki Iles is one of the heroines of British jazz. She has made an invaluable contribution to the jazz scene in this country and beyond, while also making a very personal musical statement in many groups, not least her own superb Anglo-American trio with Rufus Reid and Jeff Williams. Grammy nominated and ECM recording artist Norma Winstone MBE, pioneering innovator of the voice, has been a leading light in European music for many years. She collaborated with Kenny Wheeler and John Taylor in Azimuth, described by Richard Williams as “one of the most imaginatively conceived and delicately balanced of all contemporary chamber jazz groups“. She has also worked with Fred Hersch, Steve Swallow, Jimmy Rowles, Mike Gibbs and Ralph Towner. She has had a resurgence recently, with three superb award winning ECM releases in collaboration with European musicians, Klaus Gesing and Glauco Venier.

We are particularly thrilled that Tommy Smith, Scotland’s most prominent jazz artist and a leading and prolific educator is such an integral part of this project. The Euroradio Jazz Orchestra is a unique initiative which supports jazz at the highest level. Each player here tonight has been nominated to represent their country by their national broadcaster. We hope that they will enjoy both a profound musical experience and also make lasting friendships as they build on their professional careers. The concert at RCS Glasgow on 17th November will be recorded, and made available for broadcast by EBU radio organizations from 25th November onwards. It will be broadcast on Radio 3’s Jazz Line Up on the10th December 2016. Highlights will also feature on Radio Scotland’s Jazz House. PRESSEMITTEILUNG 08. August 2019 Django Bates und das Bundesjazzorchester zu Gast in Rheinsberg Vom 18. bis 25. August ist das Bundesjazzorchester gemeinsam mit Django Bates zu Gast in der Musikakademie Rheinsberg. Der britische Pianist, Hornist, Arrangeur und Komponist zählt zu den innovativsten Vertretern der europäischen Jazzszene. Bates ist bekannt für skurrile Bigband-Musik und hochvirtuose musikalische Experimente. Unter seiner Leitung präsentiert das Bundesjazzorchester eine Auswahl seiner Kompositionen und Arrangements, die durch die Musik von Charlie Parker, den Beatles und Beethoven inspiriert sind. Seine Musik gilt als komplex, humorvoll und äußerst unterhaltsam. Bei der Erarbeitung des Programms wird der junge Spitzennachwuchs des Jazz von international renommierten Dozenten unterstützt. In die Musikakademie Rheinsberg kommen Marius Neset, NOR (Saxofon), Noel Langely, UK (Trompete), Richard Henry, UK (Posaune), Stuart Hall, UK (Gitarre/Bass), Martin France, UK (Drums) und Josefine Lindstrand, SWE (Gesang). Das Programm „Forty Years Outside The Box“ wird zum Abschluss der Arbeitsphase am 24. August um 19.30 Uhr im Schlosstheater Rheinsberg präsentiert. Das Konzert ist zugleich die Eröffnung der Schlosstheater-Saison 2019/20. JUST ANNOUNCED The Milk Carton Kids Wed 29 May 2019, Barbican Hall, 8pm Tickets £20 –25 plus booking fee This spring, American Indie acoustic folk duo, The Milk Carton Kids, return to the UK and Europe following the 2018 release of their latest Grammy-nominated album All the Things That I Did and All the Things That I Didn't Do (ANTI). For their Barbican date in May Joey Ryan and Kenneth Pattengale will present new songs as well as material from their back catalogue. Since their 2015 studio album Monterey, both artists had to go through some challenging life experiences, and although they didn't approach the new album conceptually, their experiences provided the background for this highly personal new record.
