Needless to say, my life has been turned upside down – but in a good way. I have always liked the following poem, and have kept a copy in my notebook for many years. Apalachee As a father, it now has even more meaning. But, it not only applies to parents and Chief Scoutmasters, but to everyone in a leadership position. Michael Kirkland Always remember, there’s a little guy (or maybe even a big guy) that has his Adviser eyes on you. He’s going to follow your lead, copy your actions, do as you do. Ted Spangenberg, Sr Make sure that your example is one that you can be proud of when you look over your shoulder and see the Scout that is following you. Choctaw “A Little Scout Follows Me” Chief A careful scouter I ought to be, Ray Bennington A little Scout follows me. Adviser I do not dare to go astray, Keith Reyher For fear he will go the same way. Not once can I escape his eyes, Whatever he sees me do, he tries. Like me he says he's going to be, That little Scout who follows me. Oschambos Chief He thinks that I am good and fine, Byron Caudle Believes in every word of mine, The bad in me he must not see, Adviser That little Scout who follows me. Chad Hartley I must remember as I go, Through summer sun and winter snow, I am building for the years to be, That scout who follows me. Panzacola Adapted by Merl Whitebook, from "A Little Fellow Follows Me" by Lee Fisher Chief Ben Marshall Adviser Changing of the Guard Jim Matson For the last four years, we have had the pleasure of having Jon Davies, II serve as our Staff Adviser. Jon was the rare profes- sional Scouter who came home to serve. He is an Eagle Scout, Vigil Honor member and former Lodge Chief of Yustaga 385. Many of you may also remember him from his many years on the Techakin summer camp staff at STSR. Jon has decided to make a career Chief change and has gone back to college to further his education. His Cody Greene last day of employment with the Gulf Coast Council was Septem- ber 30. As of press time, a new Staff Adviser has not been named. Adviser Frank Henry Thanks Jon for all that you have done! 3 The Osprey 2003 Choctaw Chapter Info Dear All Choctaw Chapter Members, November 22-23 Well, another year in our lodge has past and all I can say is thanks for being so Lodge Leadership supportive of this chapter and all that we have done over the past year. I would like Development to say that it has been a pleasure serving Choctaw Chapter as your chapter chief, and Conference I am looking forward to next year. At the Fall Pow-wow, we had elections as you all (LLDC) should know. I am very pleased to say that our chapter will be well represented this year. I will be one of the lodge vice-chiefs and Allen Bishop will be the lodge Treas- December 6 urer. The most important election ended with Ray Bennington of Troop 509 as our Lodge Banquet chapter chief, Stephen Erickson of Troop 546 as our chapter vice-chief, and David Carstens of Troop 509 as our chapter secretary. I have spoken to each one of these individuals and they all have lofty goals for our chapter this year, and everyone is 2004 willing to work hard to achieve them. The next time you go to camp I would like you to notice the new campsite signs that were put up at the Fall Pow-wow by our chapter. I think they look very impres- January 10, 2004 sive, and I would like to thank everyone who helped make this chapter service pro- LEC ject a true success; especially our master router Dover Bell.
