This Week — No. 15/9 UCLA (1-1) will host unranked UC Davis (2-1) on Thursday, Sept. 10 in the Bruins' 2009 UCLA Schedule home opener at Drake Stadium. The game will begin at 7 pm. Tickets cost $7 for adults and $5 for youth (16 and under). UCLA students are free with ID. Sept. 4 at #1/8 Maryland W 2-0 In The Rankings — UCLA moved up to No. 15 in the NSCAA/adidas coaches poll and stayed pat at No. 9 Sept. 6 at Georgetown L 0-2 in the Soccer America poll. The Bruins moved up to 10th in the College Soccer News poll and are 21st in Sept. 10 UC Davis 7 pm the Top Drawer Soccer rankings. UC Davis is unranked but was ranked No. 24 in the preseason by Soccer Sept. 17 Cal St. Fullerton 7 pm Times. Sept. 25 at San Diego 7 pm Scouting The Aggies — UC Davis opened the season with a 4-1 loss at San Jose State but rebounded with Sept. 27 UNLV 5 pm a pair of big victories the following weekend at the UNLV Nike Invitational - 3-0 over Robert Morris and 3-1 Oct. 2 at Oregon State* 7 pm over Central Arkansas. Senior Paul Marcoux (2g) and junior Jason Santos (1g, 2a) share the team lead in Oct. 4 at Washington 2 pm scoring. The Aggies went 13-5-4 last season and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament, Oct. 11 at San Diego State* 2 pm where they lost to Michigan, 2-1. UC Davis returns four starters from the 2008 squad. Oct. 16 California* 7 pm The Series With UC Davis — UCLA has never lost to UC Davis in 13 games. The two teams last played in Oct. 18 Stanford* 2:30 pm 2004, with the Bruins winning, 3-1, in Los Angeles. Oct. 23 at California* 4 pm Weekend Wrapup - Bruins Upset #1 Maryland, Upset At Georgetown — UCLA split its weekend series Oct. 25 at Stanford* 2:30 pm on the East Coast, upsetting No. 1 Maryland, 2-0, on Friday and then being upset by Georgetown by the Oct. 31 at Creighton 3 pm CT same score on Sunday. In the win over the Terrapins, senior defender Sean Alvarado scored the game- Nov. 6 Oregon State* 7 pm winning goal in the 77th minute, and freshman midfi elder Ryan Hollingshead scored an insurance goal in Nov. 8 Washington* 1 pm the 83rd minute. The goals were each player's fi rst of their careers. Senior goalkeeper Brian Perk earned Nov. 14 San Diego State* 7 pm the shutout by making a career-high 10 saves. Nov. 24 NCAA Second Round TBD Nov. 28-29 NCAA Third Round TBD Perk Honored As Pac-10 Player Of The Week — Senior goalkeeper Brian Perk was named the Pac-10 Player Dec. 4-6 NCAA Quarterfi nals TBD of the Week for the third time in his career after shutting out top-ranked and defending NCAA champion Dec. 11&13 NCAA College Cup (at Cary, NC) TBD Maryland on Friday. Perk helped snap the Terrapins' 16-match winning streak by making a career-high 10 saves, one short of the school's single-game record of 11. He withstood 19 shot attempts by Maryland Home matches in bold to preserve the shutout, making fi ve saves in each half. Against Georgetown, Perk blocked one shot in ^ - Exhibition game * - Pac-10 Conference Match the Hoyas 2-0 victory over the Bruins. With the 11 saves this weekend, Perk moved up to fi fth on UCLA's All home matches played at Marshall Field at Drake Stadium unless otherwise career saves list with 199. indicated. Rankings are NSCAA/Soccer America. Milestone Approaching For Perk — With his next save, Brian Perk will become only the fi fth goalkeeper in UCLA history to record 200 career saves. The others are Zach Wells (269), Anton Nistl (261), Tim Harris Notable (259) and David Vanole (204). •UCLA will play four games against teams ranked in Senior Leadership — For the fi rst time in Jorge Salcedo's tenure as head coach, the Bruins can truly call the NSCAA/adidas preseason poll - No. 1 Maryland, themselves a veteran team, with a substantially large senior class of eight, the largest senior class at UCLA No. 6 Creighton and No. 8 California (twice). since 2003. Leading the way are six returning senior starters - midfi elder Michael Stephens, goalkeeper •UCLA returns eight starters from last year's Pac-10 Brian Perk, midfi elder Kyle Nakazawa, forward David Estrada, and defenders Danny Suits and Luis Serrano championship squad that went 7-1-2 in conference - as well as defender Sean Alvarado and midfi elder Andrew Sinderhoff. Stephens is the reigning Pac-10 play. Amongst the returning starters is 2008 Pac-10 Player of the Year, while Perk, Estrada and Suits were all-conference selections. Nakazawa was a preseason Player of the Year Michael Stephens. All-America selection before injuries limited him to just 10 games last season. The U.S. team leaves for training on Sept. 14. Group play ends on Oct. 2. This Week — Sixth-seeded UCLA (12-3-4) will travel to Winston-Salem, NC to take on third-seeded Wake 2009 UCLA Schedule Forest (17-4-2) in the quarterfi nals of the NCAA Tournament on Saturday, Dec. 5 at 7 pm. The game will take place at Spry Stadium. Tickets are $7 for adults/$5 for students, youth & senior citizens.
