Myfriend Alceste told me theyhad come fromthe year ina time machine, I asked Alceste what a time machine was but he was Le Petit Nicolas a sandwich, Alceste eats allthe time and his mouthis always fullso he pointed at Agnanand told me to ask him.
Agnanis top ofthe class and the teacher's pet, he's Le Petit Nicolas funbecause he wears glasses so youcan't Le Petit Nicolas himwhenMax And LiliVisit MySchoolTodaywhenI arrived at schooleveryone was veryLe Petit Nicolas because there were two new kids called Maxand Lili. Agnanis top ofthe class and the teacher's pet, he's no funbecause he wears glasses so youcan't hit himwhenyouwant to.
He started to tellme what a time machine was but it was kind ofboringso I went to look at the new kids. Maxis cool, he's reallygood at soccer and he also likes fighting, I said he could joinour gangand he said sure so now he's inmyLe Petit Nicolas too. At break I went to talk to his sister, usuallyI don't talk to girls because they're dumb and just playwithdolls and stuffbut Lililooked a bit like mycousinLouisette who is cool so I thought whynot.
Lilitold me allabout life init was reallyinteresting, she got chased bya pedophile and her uncle got Le Petit Nicolas injailand her dad lost his job and she hangs out a lot onthe Internet, I didn't know what the Internet was but Lilisays it's like a TV witha typewriter and she met another pedophile there.
Lilimeets a lot ofpedophiles, I asked her what theywere and she told me, it's kind ofgross Le Petit Nicolas reallyinteresting. After lunch, we had show and Le Petit Nicolas and Le Petit Nicolas asked me to talk about somethingand I explained about pedophiles but teacher wasn't happy, she looked reallytired and she told me to stand inthe corner. I don't know why. Anywayit was Lili's fault because she explained it to me, maybe she Le Petit Nicolas do it right and that's whyteacher got mad.
So at afternoonbreak I said she shouldn't tellme anymore Le Petit Nicolas and whydidn't I tellher about life inLilisaid fine and I said we fight a lot and we playsoccer and I had just learned how to smoke. I had a cigar I got frommyfriend and I said would she like to tryand she said yes please, so we went behind the bike shed and we tried smokingit. I coughed Le Petit Nicolas lot and I felt a bit sick, but Liliwas great and she could blow smoke out throughLe Petit Nicolas nose it was just like inthe movies. We had almost finished smokingthe cigar whenEudes came lookingfor us, Eudes is myfriend he's a good kid and verystrongand likes hitting everyone and he said Lili's momwas there withthe Le Petit Nicolas machine and theyhad to go back to So we came out and Lili's momwas talkingto mymom, and theyasked us ifwe had had funand learned usefulstuff, and I said I had learned what a pedophile was and Lilisaid she had learned to smoke, and mymomdidn't look happyand Lili's momdidn't look happyeither, and Lili's momsaid theyhad to Le Petit Nicolas right now and mymomsaid that was a good idea.
I hope Lilicomes back tomorrow, she is almost as coolas Louisette, ifLouisette doesn't want to marryme whenI grow up thenI willmarryLili instead. View all18 comments. I have fond memories ofreadingsome ofthese stories intheir originalformI think inmy10thgrade Frenchclass sadly, these are the ONLY fond memories Le Petit Nicolas have ofstudyingFrench!
Goscinny's endearinglynaughtylittle boys made a wonderfullyrefreshingchange fromthe forced profundities ofLe Petit Prince, to saynothingof the banalsociallives ofthe dopeylookingParisianteens who populated a text-book called "Nos Amis. So I always thought I'd like to go back and revisit Nicholas, perhaps eveninFrench, but this relativelyrecent and highlyLe Petit Nicolas produced English-language editionLe Petit Nicolas it easyand pleasant to be lazy.
Truthbe told, this time around, I might have found the stories to be more rewardingifI had had to work harder whenreadingthem. As it was, I found themamusing, but theyget a little repetitive. Most ofthe book I read aloud to myeight-year-old, who giggled a lot, but also asked me to stop readingsometimes, and skip Le Petit Nicolas the next chapter, because he gets a little anxious whenthings go wronginstories -- and these particular stories are not so subtle that he couldn't see that suchthings as playinghookyand smokinga purloined cigar were not goingto end well.
Infact, sometimes I felt distinctlyuneasymyselfwonderingwhat mysonmade ofallthe ofcheerfulpunches to the nose inthis book, and the regret at not beingable to whack the teacher's pet because ofhis glasses. Also Goscinnydoes so muchwinkingover Nicholas' head at the adult reader, who is clearlymeant to sympathize withthe overwhelmed teachers and parents, that one almost wonders ifit's meant for childrenat all.
So, to put it more succinctly, I enjoyed it, but amslightlyrelieved it's over. Well, no harminLe Petit Nicolas optimistic!
