With this award comes a very high profile and the responsibility of not only maintaining standards but also raising them. I am confident that this is what we have been doing, and will continue to do, as you will see from our achievements below. A GREAT START We have our largest ever Year 7 cohort with the school cracking the 1000 student population mark. Early indications are that this is a year group full of serious learners who have academic success as their number one priority. They, of course, join Year 8 & 9 cohorts who produced our best ever NAPLAN results over two consecutive years. OPEN NIGHT We had a packed hall for our Open Night on 13 February for Year 7, 2020. We prepared over 350 enrolment packs but ran out. As of last week, we have already received over 300 applications for next year, with over 100 students sitting the Extension Class test. Unfortunately for many applicants, we will be capping the number of students we accept at 200. We have clearly become a school of choice for exceptional students who excel both academically and on the sporting field. TOP SCHOOL IN THE SHIRE We are the Science and Engineering Champions of the Shire! Recently we competed against private and public schools from both inside and outside of the Shire at the ANSTO Science & Engineering Challenge. We were the top Shire school and finished second overall to the North Sydney private school Wenona. Congratulations to our Years 9&10 students and their teachers. ACADEMIC SUCCESS Academic success for every student is, and always will be, our No. 1 priority. Our new Head Teacher of Teaching & Learning, Sarah Hawke, has made a great start to her role. We have established a Quality Teaching & Learning Team that will evaluate the T&L environment across the school and develop and implement enhancements. We continue to employ a HSC Mentor and we are delivering additional HSC workshops across all subjects. CREATIVE AND PERFORMING ARTS We were very excited to announce that we will be offering the VET Entertainment HSC course in 2019. Together with Drama, Dance, Music and Art we have developed a strong creative and performing arts program that performs regularly throughout the year and will be on full display at our annual Performing Arts Night. HIGH-TECH AUDIO VISUAL EQUIPMENT FOR THE HALL Our creative and performing arts students will be further supported with the purchase of new lighting and audio-visual equipment for the hall. Costing tens of thousands of dollars, this investment will benefit students for many years to come and is being funded by our wonderful P&C. INCREDIBLE FEMALE ATHLETES We recently had several female students compete at the Australian Track & Field Championships. Jade Johnston- Mitrevska, Tomysha Clark, Joy Levy, Georgie Latanis, Emily Weatherall, Kira-May Filemu, Ivy Boothroyd and Milly Boughton. Special mention to Ivy who won both the 800m and 1500m, and to Milly who won the 3000m Race Walk. INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY We are so proud of our female staff and students and are committed to supporting them in every way. It is why we are leaders in celebrating International Women’s Day. This year’s event was a great success with all of our females coming together to celebrate and support each other. As a father of a son and daughter, I want to make sure that our girls get the same opportunities, support and recognition as boys. A STATE-OF-THE-ART FACILITY Last week we had the official launch of our high performance cricket facility that is the best in Southern Sydney. This is an incredible training centre for our highly talented cricket students and ads to our already impressive list of world- class sporting facilities CANTEEN UPGRADE We are very excited that our canteen will be receiving a big refurbishment in the holidays so that it not only improves catering for the staff but also looks great. TARGETED SPORTS PROGRAM We now have 15 sports forming our TSP and the quantity and quality of athletes across the program is amazing. This week we made the exciting announcement that Gymnastics will be added as the 16th Sport in 2020. Trials for the Year 7, 2020 cohort will be held for all sports in Weeks 1&2 of Term 2. AT THE CUTTING EDGE OF SPORTS SCIENCE We continue to ensure that our Targeted Sports Program is at the forefront of innovation in the sporting world. It is why we are so committed to the testing of all our student athletes by Sydney University. These tests, conducted at the beginning and the end of the year, provide invaluable data to the athlete, their coaches and parents about the athlete’s development. The data is also used to modify training programs, inform strength & conditioning programs and prevent injury. It is the first of its kind in Australia and helps to make our talent development program truly unique. IS YOUR CHILD IN THE RIGHT UNIFORM We are committed to having the best uniform standards in the Shire and beyond. Please ensure that with the change of seasons your child is wearing one of the four options to keep their upper bodies warm. Long sleeve undershirts, plain black tops and TSP jackets are NOT uniform. Finally, I would like to acknowledge the hard work of my incredible staff, who ensure that our students are at the best school in the country. I would like to wish staff, students and parents a safe and happy Easter. Mr J Kozlowski Principal Message from Jocelyn Gooch – Deputy Principal Term 1 2019 has seen us welcome Year 7 the largest cohort at the school, which reflects the school’s ever growing reputation for delivering quality education in a caring environment. All years have settled into their classes, and are meeting the new demands and expectations placed upon them. All students have a dedicated Year Coordinator who has a pastoral care role within their Year. The Year Co-ordinators, are listed below: Year 7 Adviser – Ms Akkaway and Ms Kyriacou Year 8 Adviser – Ms Jessop Year 9 Adviser – Ms Jenkins Year 10 Adviser – Ms Raxworthy Year 11 Adviser – Ms Kaladelfos Year 12 Adviser – Mr Kelly We also welcome Ms Kaladelfos into the role of relieving Head Teacher Welfare. Students, parents and carers are encouraged to raise any issues of concern with the Year Coordinators, or with the Head Teacher Welfare. Students can also make an appointment with the school counsellors, Mr Sexton and Ms Sierra. Dutch Principal Tour Our school was very proud to be included in the Dutch Principal Tour, which was attended by educational leaders from countries such as Norway and Denmark. Our school showcased some of the wonderful teaching and learning that takes place every day in classrooms. Teachers from different faculties demonstrated innovative practice related to current evidence based practice. LITERACY AND NUMERACY - NATIONAL ASSESSMENT PROGRAM (NAPLAN) All students in Years 7 and 9 across Australia will again sit for the national tests in Literacy and Numeracy. The tests will be conducted in Term 2 on Tuesday 14 May to Thursday 16 May. All tests will be held in the hall and in F block. Students will be able to catch up on Friday 17 May if they have missed one of the tests. More information can be found on the NAPLAN website- http://www.nap.edu.au/naplan/naplan.html Study Skills We have conducted and will conduct study skills seminars for all students using Elevate Education. Elevate’s study skills sessions are designed to achieve behavioural change amongst students. Gifted and Talented Education Already students have enjoyed the enrichment experience of excursions and extension of class work. Our Gifted and Talented program is led by Mrs Karina Dunne and we have a Year 7 and 8 Coordinator – Mrs Alex Jones and a Stage 5 and 6 Coordinator – Ms Sarah Parkinson. The team bring a wealth of experience and passion for providing opportunity, extension and enrichment of all students. The team recently attended professional development with Professor John Hattie on Maximising Learning Impact. Gifted and Talented Education at Endeavour is a particular focus and we look forward to an exciting year ahead with vast opportunity for all students. School Procedures Just a reminder to all parents and carers that the school has clearly defined procedures for lateness, using sick bay and early leave requirements.

  • Reflection Upcoming Events
Reflection Upcoming Events Dear Parents and Carers and friends of the Trinity Catholic College community, Term 1, Week 2 I wish to thank all the students, parents and staff for the very warm welcome I have Tuesday 3 Feb received. It’s important to share my first impression of the College. Firstly, I must tell you 9am - College Opening Mass just how proud I am of your children. I have been working in schools for over thirty years and the students I have met in the past few days have been some of the best I have Wednesday 4 Feb come across. They are confident, intelligent and highly respectful. They reflect the 6.30pm - Stage 5 Information Evening wonderful support and example that is obviously provided at home and by their teachers. Friday 6 Feb Over the past few weeks, I have also met the staff of the College and again their February Census professionalism, dedication and obvious hard word reflects their commitment to the vocation of teaching. We are all very blessed to have such a wonderful and supportive team to educate your children. As we commence a new year I remind our community that we are celebrating the bicentenary of the Marist Brothers. Two hundred years ago Marcellin Champagnat founded a school in rural France to make Jesus known and loved. As we commence a new chapter in Marist life we are challenged to consider how this will look as the Brothers and the lay marist work together to reimagine a new Marist way for the future. It is an exciting time that will bring new life to our Marist project.
