Hot on the heels of its wicked, long-running predecessor, Forbidden Broadway, Forbidden Hollywood has come to town, guns blazing and smoking with attitude. When the dust clears, industry icons are everywhere in the street, lovingly littered by creator Gerard Alessandrini whose Broadway blowout has run in New York for more than 20 years and has toured the world. With pacing as furious as Forbidden Broadway, Forbidden Hollywood cuts through tinseltown’s bombast and starpower with surgical precision. Recent classics like “Titanic” “Star Wars”, “Harry Potter” and “Austin Powers” all receive the comic once-over from Forbidden Hollywood’s cast. The bigger the production, the harder it falls. The cast revels in its wicked destruction of blockbusters like “Shrek”, “Lord of the Rings”, and “Chicago”. Disney, fattened beyond counting by its recent string of hits, endures a riotous ribbing of its cartoon world and its theme park megalomania. In one of the revue’s funniest bits, Sharon Stone takes center stage belting out a twisted take on TV’s long-running “Rawhide” show. Alessandrini keeps the show topical by constantly updating the material. No film, brand new or venerable, is safe from his nasty pen. Other actors who are satirized include Keanu Reeves, Melanie Griffith, Jennifer Lopez, Jim Carrey, Nicole Kidman, Tom Cruise, and long-famous stars like Katherine Hepburn, Jimmy Stewart, Marlene Dietrich, Doris Day, Judy Garland, Marlon Brando, Barbra Streisand, Audrey Hepburn, Louis Armstrong, Ann- Margret and Liza Minnelli, who sing “Mein Herr” from the film version of “Cabaret.” “Hilarious - get a ticket immediately!” says the Los Angeles Times. Capitalizing on the star-studded Oscar Award weekend, the Arts Center is hosting a Red Carpet Happy Hour before the show. For $10, guests can attend this VIP Happy Hour sponsored by Franco’s Bistro which includes appetizers, drinks, trivia and games from 6-7 pm on February 20. Tickets for Forbidden Hollywood are $30 or $27 for Arts Center members and available by phoning (719) 295- 7200. Forbidden Hollywood is sponsored by Montgomery & Steward, Rocky Mountain Eye Center, Art and Lorraine Gonzales, Greg and Sally Berryman, Kathy Farley and Fran McClave, University Park Care Centers, and Dairy Queen.
