I’ve been wanting to do this for a long time. “The songs on this album aren’t songs I sing in my concerts until recently. Two of them point to the importance that her family had in bringing her to fame. You Don’t Know Me contains the first recorded trio vocal performance by Crystal with her singing sisters Loretta Lynn and Peggy Sue. It is their version of Dolly Parton’s “Put It Off Until Tomorrow.” “You Never Were Mine” comes from the pen of her older brother, Jay Lee Webb (1937-1996). The two were always close. An outspoken patriot, beloved mentor to young artists and still a road warrior at age 80, Charlie has parlayed his passion for music into a multi-platinum career and a platform to support the military, underprivileged children and others in need. Raised among the longleaf pines of North Carolina, Charlie began his career playing bluegrass music with the Misty Mountain Boys. After moving to Nashville in 1967, he began making a name for himself as a songwriter, session musician and producer. Elvis Presley recorded a tune Charlie co-wrote titled “It Hurts Me,” which was released on the flip side of “Kissin’ Cousins.” He played on such landmark albums as Bob Dylan’s Nashville Skyline and tried his hand at producing the Youngbloods’ Elephant Mountain and Ride the Wind. His own unique voice as an artist emerged as Charlie recorded his self-titled solo album in 1970 for Capitol Records. Two years later he formed the Charlie Daniels Band and the group scored its first hit with the top ten “Uneasy Rider.” Since then the CDB has populated radio with such memorable hits as “Long Haired Country Boy,” “The South’s Gonna Do It Again,” “In America,” “The Legend of Wooley Swamp” and of course, his signature song, “The Devil Went Down to Georgia,” which won a Grammy for Best Country Vocal Performance by a Duo or Group in 1979 as well as single of the year at the Country Music Association Awards.

    2008 Induction Class Crystal Gayle One of the most popular and widely recognized female country singers of her era, Crystal Gayle supported her trademark, nearly floor-length hair with a supple voice, a flair for ballads, and a crossover-friendly country-pop style that netted her the occasional mainstream hit. Gayle was born Brenda Gail Webb in Paintsville, KY, in 1951; her older sister was future superstar Loretta Lynn, though Lynn had already left home by the time Brenda was born. The family moved to Wabash, IN, when Brenda was four, and she started singing along with country and pop songs on the radio at a young age. Inspired in part by Lynn's success, Brenda learned guitar and started performing folk songs in high school, also singing backing vocals in her brother's band. Lynn encouraged her younger sister, and started bringing her out on tour for a few weeks each summer. Lynn's label, Decca, signed the young singer as soon as she was done with high school, but suggested a name change so as to avoid confusion with labelmate Brenda Lee. Lynn suggested the name Crystal, inspired by the Krystal hamburger chain, and Brenda adopted her middle name to come up with Crystal Gayle.Gayle's debut single was 1970's "I've Cried (The Blues Right Out of My Eyes)"; done in a style very similar to Lynn's, it reached the country Top 40. Far from encouraging Gayle to develop her own style, Decca pushed for more "little Loretta" records, and Lynn actually wrote some of her early singles.

    Susanna Clark March 11, 1939-June 27, 2012 Susanna Talley Clark’s talents transcended songwriting. She was a hit songwriter, an accomplished painter, and an extraordinary muse to many celebrated artists. During the 1970s, 80s, and 90s, Susanna hosted an artist salon in Nashville, where important characters of the growing Americana music movement gathered to share ideas and swap songs. In addition to her husband Guy Clark, Susanna inspired music luminaries Townes Van Zandt, Rodney Crowell, Steve Earle, Emmylou Harris, Lyle Lovett, Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, Vince Gill, Carlene Carter, Jerry Jeff Walker and countless other writers and artists. Born in Atlanta, Texas in 1939, Susanna met songwriters Guy Clark and Townes Van Zandt in the late 1960s. She moved to Houston with Guy in 1970. Later that year, Susanna and Guy moved to Los Angeles together and then to Nashville when Guy got his first publishing deal in 1971. Van Zandt came to Nashville to be the best man when Guy and Susanna married in 1972. He lived with them for the first eight months of their marriage. Guy and Susanna were married. Guy and Townes were best friends. Susanna and Townes were soulmates. Although Guy got most of the credit, it was Susanna who dreamed up and began writing the timeless songs “Black Haired Boy,” (about Townes), “Old Friends,” and “The Cape.” She brought lyrics and simple chords to Guy and he helped her finish them. Susanna and Townes co-wrote “Heavenly Houseboat Blues” and Townes recorded it on The Late Great Townes Van ​ Zandt. Susanna became the hit songwriter in Clark family when she wrote “I’ll Be Your San ​ Antone Rose and Texas artist Dottsy took the song to the Billboard Top 10 in 1975.
