There were plenty of thrills, but thankfully no major spills. All the equipment and guides were provided by Planet Bike (www.planetbike.co.nz). BY COLIN THORSEN

WWMC Hobbits rocketed into outright third spot with their fifth win from seven matches in Te Awamutu Darts subsidiary round. The Hobbits scored a decisive 12-3 victory over an Ohaupo Tigers side who went into their week eight clash with the identical record of four wins from six matches. Highlights of the night were the first ever 180 thrown by Nigel Cluitt for the Hobbits, and his team-mates Warren Jones and Mike Hawker both winning all their four games. Ohaupo Solids secured their fourth straight win beating WWMC Raiders 12-3. Judy Botting was the toast of the Solids’ team after throwing a 180 and winning a maximum of four games. Her team-mate Valda Samuels also notched four wins. The long-awaited match-up between the two RSA teams went down to the wire with the Bombers pipping Allsorts 8-7. The Bombers took a 5-4 lead in the pairs and halved the singles 3-3. Allsorts’ Mike Heays and Kathy Dixon were the only players on either team to record four wins. Unbeaten Ohaupo whitewashed Rosetown Thorns 15-0, restricting the oppo- sition to two leg wins - one each in the pairs and singles. Second placed Warriors inflicted the third straight loss on Tungstens, winning as they liked 14-1. Dwayne Teddy and Ben Rapson won their pairs for Tungstens to prevent a clean- sweep. The Tungstens made a flying start to the season, winning their opening five matches before hitting the wall. They meet Rosetown Rockets tonight, a team that has also dropped their last three matches after winning four on end. Fight back wins matchplay

Shirley Grey and Jackie van der Stap staged a might salvage job to win the four- ball, best-ball matchplay competition at Pirongia Golf Club. After three rounds of round-robin play in two divisions the winners of each division played off in the final. The beaten finalists, Jillian Reakes and Rosemary Collinson-Smith started with a hiss and roar, racing out to 4-up and were still 3-up after nine holes. But a great fight back by Grey and van der Stap saw them whittle down the lead and win the match on the 17th hole. It was a particularly mementos occasion for club stalwart Grey, who finally gets her name on this trophy. 18 Te Awamutu Courier Tuesday, May 13, 2014 Judge wins after failed Derby bid
