On 15 July a rare copy of the first Bible printed in Great Britain was auctioned at Sotheby’s. According to experts, the copy, which was translated by William Tyndale, was appraised at 25,000 to 35,000 pounds. Instead it sold at 60,000. The precious document was acquired for 25 shillings by anonymous student in a secondhand bookshop in Cambridge in the 1960s.
