Blessed with natural athleticism and ability, plus a background in basketball, he almost took out the NAB Rising Star Award finishing second to another outstanding junior in Joel Selwood of Geelong. Scott’s poise and composure around the contest and in pressure situations combined with his leap and pace has created great expectations for aspiring future AFL players. 2007 was capped off for Scott by a promising finals series as he was one of Collingwood’s best in the semi final against West Coast as well as also coming second in the Copeland Trophy. Scott’s body continued to further develop in 2008 and this was evident against Essendon on Anzac Day where he collected 33 disposals and exerted his pressure skills on the Essendon players by laying a game high 7 tackles. The 2008 season saw Scott be awarded for his strong form by winning the J. J. Joyce Trophy for coming third in Collingwood's Best and Fairest. In 2009 Scott showed his durability when in Round 12 he looked to go down with a serious knee injury in the opening minutes of the game. The hearts of Collingwood fans were in their mouths as the thought of losing one of their key players severely dented their Premiership aspirations. Scott however was running again the following weekend and returned to the side in Round 14 where he finished off a impressive home and away season. Before the season was finished though Scott suffered a broken leg in Round 21 which required surgery coming into the finals series. Whilst he didn’t manage to play a finals game, he declared himself fit if the Pies had of made the Grand Final which again proved his remarkable durability. Scott arguably enjoyed his finest season in 2010 and this no doubt reflected on the success of the team that won the AFL Premiership. Having performed exceptionally throughout the year Scott’s game in the drawn Grand Final was below his high standards. However testament to his character he bounced back to win the Norm Smith Medal for being best on ground in the Grand Final replay where the Pies demolished the Saints. Scott also received his first All Australian jumper and looks set to add to this tally in years to come..
