Chrome Web Store - Extensions

Welcome to the Chrome for Mesa Public Schools video tutorial series. This tutorial is titled Chrome Features - Chrome Web Store: Extensions and is intended to provide a brief overview of Extensions in the Chrome Web Store.

Chrome is not only a , it is also a platform with its own , the Chrome Web Store. The Chrome Web Store can be accessed at anytime from the menu bar at the bottom of the New Tab page. The Chrome Web Store provides access to three different types of downloads for Chrome: Apps, Extensions, and Themes.

Be aware that not all Apps, Extensions, and Themes in the Chrome Web Store will work from within the district network. Care should be taken to ensure that all downloads from the Chrome Web Store comply with appropriate district policies. Also be aware that no support is provided by the district for downloads from the Chrome Web Store and that installing Extensions in can have unintended side effects that can compromise your browser’s functionality and security.

For this tutorial, we will be looking at Extensions. Extensions add new functionality to Chrome or change aspects of Chrome’s default behavior. Many extensions tie into external data sources or services which may be blocked within the district.

To see the available Extensions, open the Chrome Web Store. Select the section titled “Extensions”. Subcategories will be displayed below the selection and the available Extensions for each category will be displayed in the window to the right.

Click on a thumbnail for more details about an Extension. To install the Extension, click on the “Add to Chrome” button. The Extension will be downloaded and applied to your browser.

The impact that the Extension will have on your interface will vary. Many Extensions add an icon to the Chrome interface.

To manage your Extensions, click on the icon to the right of the address bar, in
