The Capitol keeps the districts in line by forcing them all to send one boy and one girl between the ages of twelve and eighteen to participate in the annual Hunger Games, a fight to the death on live TV. Sixteen-year-old Katniss Everdeen regards it as a death sentence when she steps forward to take her sister's place in the Games. Without really meaning to, she becomes a contender. The interview has been divided into five parts, running Monday through Friday. This first installment starts with Collins and Lawrence describing the mental state of our favorite heroine… Compare Katniss at the beginning of Hunger Games and Katniss at the beginning of this movie. How is she different now? Francis Lawrence: Well, Katniss is different because she’s been through the games. I think that was one of the things that really interested me most about the material and about this book was that we Peter Hapak for TIME get to start to see the kind of effects that the games have on people, the effects that violence has on Francis Lawrence, director of The Hunger Games: people. Catching Fire and Suzanne Collins, author of The Hunger Games Trilogy How do you show that change? FL: Even though she’s in the place she loves in the forest, I think that there’s a look to her, I would call it the thousand-yard stare. She’s still disturbed by things, and can’t get certain thoughts and images out of her head.

  • CATCHING FIRE for SOCIAL JUSTICE a LESSON PLAN for HIGH-SCHOOL STUDENTS the Hunger Games: Catching Fire for Social Justice HOPE IS STRONGER THAN FEAR
CATCHING FIRE FOR SOCIAL JUSTICE A LESSON PLAN FOR HIGH-SCHOOL STUDENTS The Hunger Games: Catching Fire for Social Justice HOPE IS STRONGER THAN FEAR Introduction The Center for Healthy Teen Relationships, an initiative of the Idaho Coalition Against Sexual Domestic Violence, is committed to creating Compassionate Communities that empower everyone to thrive and be their best selves by achieving justice, equity, and respect for all girls and women, boys and men. In that spirit, we offer the following lesson plan ideas based on The Hunger Games: Catching Fire. The Hunger Games: Catching Fire is the second in the best-selling series by Suzanne Collins, and a highly-anticipated movie set for release on November 22, 2013. Building on both the immense popularity of the Hunger Games triology (outselling the Harry Potter series) and the first Hunger Games film, Catching Fire will be a cultural phenomenon among young people, and a unique opportunity to engage students in critical conversations about the power of social activism to make a difference in the world. Movements to challenge injustice can begin when fundamental wrongs are identified and people organize to challenge power holders, institutions, and society’s norms. A shared passion for promoting new visions of a better world can transform the way we view our roles in society, our values and priorities, and ultimately the structure of our society and communities. The theme of Hunger Games: Catching Fire is two-fold: 1. Encouraging young people to share a vision of hope, and a sense of responsibility for social justice, is critical to our future society’s well-being.

All Rights Reserved. ©2021 SAGE Publishing, Inc. All Rights Reserved. “The art lies in allowing fans to feel as if they are discovering a film” Executive Summary “Hunger Games” movies win plaudits for innovative digital marketing campaigns that include a variety of social media strategies. Full Article The “Hunger Games” movies have been some of the most popular big-screen releases of recent years—propelled by some of the most ambitious digital marketing campaigns. Months of multiplatform promotions preceded Lionsgate's “The Hunger Games” in 2012 and “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire” in November 2013, the first two in the series of four films drawn from Suzanne Collins's mega-successful dystopian trilogy. That pattern continued with “Mockingjay: Part One,” the third film in the series, which was released at Thanksgiving 2014 and is the star of its own digital marketing campaign. The campaign for “Catching Fire” augmented the usual movie poster ads and trailers with several alternative strategies. One of these included billboards in New York and Los Angeles in which the film's stars were dressed in future shock-style outfits that “Hunger Games” fans would recognize as the over-the-top wardrobe choices citizens of the Capitol “district” would make even as they enslaved and oppressed residents of the 11 surviving districts in the fictional nation of Panem.

  • Report Creative Lab Hawaii Program Fy 2016-2017
REPORT CREATIVE LAB HAWAII PROGRAM FY 2016-2017 In Response to Act 124, SLH2016, Sect.4.1. February 1, 2018 FOREWORD Act 124, SLH 2016, Sect.4.1.directed the Creative Industries Division (CID), Department of Business, Economic Development and Tourism (DBEDT) to expand the Creative Lab Hawaii Program (CLH) to the neighbor islands and to implement an animation lab program. This report summarizes the activities that were implemented during FY 2016-2017. INTRODUCTION With the democratization of media and distribution channels disrupting traditional platforms of content delivery, there has never been a better time to provide the tools, mentoring, and investment opportunities to arm our creatives with business savvy to navigate this lucrative avenue of global export of intellectual property developed here in the islands. To position Hawaii as a hub of creative development in the Pacific, Creative Lab Hawaii was launched to accelerate professional development and export media, music, and design entrepreneurs. While students in our public schools as well as colleges have proven that media is a skill set they excel in, in order to continue the arc of accomplishment in the business of entertainment, an economic development program which compliments education efforts was necessary to build those skill sets necessary to be a 360-degree entrepreneur in the market today. BACKGROUND The CLH is a State of Hawaii program intended to accelerate global export of Hawaii’s creative content and/or products to strengthen our creative entrepreneurs’ capacity of success and establish Hawaii as a creative hub in the Pacific. The CLH is composed of three separate components: Immersive Programs, Ideation Workshops, and Public Programs.

  • In Dystopian Adolescent Fiction – Suzanne Collins' Hunger Games
ISSN 2411-9563 (Print) European Journal of Social Sciences May-August 2017 ISSN 2312-8429 (Online) Education and Research Volume 4, Issue 3 “Female Masculinity” in Dystopian Adolescent Fiction – Suzanne Collins’ Hunger Games Series Parvathi P K, PhD Research Scholar, Indian Institute of Technology, Madras, India Abstract In this paper, I seek to analyse the concept of ‘female masculinity’ by studying Suzanne Collins’ Hunger Games series. Pro-feminist Masculinity theorists like R.W. Connell and Michael Kimmel regard masculinity as not an ‘essence’ that manifests itself in ‘true’ males but as a ‘practice’ that is held as quintessential to all males and hence often aggressively pursued by males in order to maintain their superior position to women and to other marginalized males. The ‘practice of masculinity’ thus often rewards the males with positions of authority and power. (Connell, Gender and power: Society, the person, and sexual politics, 1987). If gender is exclusive of sex, it follows that female sex is capable of practising masculine gender. Judith Halberstam advocates this possibility of female masculinity in her work by the same name. (Halberstam, 1998). She claims that female masculinity is not an imitation of male masculinity but a “glimpse of how masculinity is constructed as masculinity” (Halberstam, 1998, p. 1). She regards female masculinity to be superior to that of male masculinity as it is not depended on the process of ‘othering’ women. Hunger Games series which gained much popularity among adolescents and adults alike and has been lauded as an exemplary work of female freedom has also got major female characters performing acts normally associated with masculinity.
