In government and in business, Katie has been a change agent overcoming the odds to create jobs, protect the environment, and deliver affordable health care and support good schools. Katie learned early on to "just do it!” She's the ninth of ten kids, born in northeast Philadelphia to a Philadelphia police officer and restaurant hostess. Katie laughs that this big, loud and fun household was a "no complaint zone.” Katie took that attitude to her dream of going to college. She was the first in her family to go to a four- year college. She earned full scholarships to study chemistry at Saint Joseph's University, and then law at Columbia University. Believing strongly that technology "invented in America should be made in America," Katie earned a Congressional Fellowship after submitting a strategy to bring technology jobs back to the United States. Working with then Senator Al Gore, Katie brought innovation and technology to protecting the environment, strengthening the landmark Clean Air Act and shaping early strategies to take on climate change. Appreciating Katie's approach that successfully broke through the old "jobs versus environment" myth, President Bill Clinton asked Katie to become the first woman to lead the White House Council on Environmental Quality. Katie drove an agenda that delivered historic gains in renewable energy, ecosystem protection and ensured clean air and water. Later, Katie brought that same approach to the helm of the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection with Governor Ed Rendell, leading a staff of 3,000 and managing an $800 million budget. With a commitment to creating jobs and protecting the environment, Katie’s work attracted clean energy companies to Pennsylvania – resulting in over a billion dollars in new investment along with creating 3,000 jobs. Under Katie’s leadership, Pennsylvania became an environmental leader among the states – renewable energy companies from around the world set up shop and Pennsylvania rose to number one in wind and third in solar energy jobs. Taking this approach global, Katie moved to India. While based at the Tata Energy Research Institute, Katie forged new partnerships between US and Indian clean energy companies, an effort that became the basis of new environmental agreements between the US and India.In the private sector, Katie led businesses that put people to work cleaning up polluted properties and bringing new investment and development, and she's helped build successful growth strategies for early stage clean energy and efficiency companies. Katie ran for Governor of Pennsylvania in 2014. When Governor Tom Wolf was elected, he named Katie, his former rival, as his Chief of Staff to help lead the new administration. With Governor Wolf, Katie continued her can-do approach to problem solving, working to develop a budget proposal that cut property taxes for families and seniors, increasing aid to public education, and expanding Medicaid. Her work with Governor Wolf is making good health coverage available to 600,000 Pennsylvanians, and will save Pennsylvania taxpayers $600 million annually. Katie is the proud recipient of three Honorary Doctorate Degrees (Clarion State, Dickinson, and Muhlenberg). She has been named “Global Leader for Tomorrow” (World Economic Forum), “Business Leader of the Year” (Woman’s Network for a Sustainable Future), "Woman of the Year” (Women’s Council on Energy and the Environment), and has been awarded prestigious environmental awards including the "Ansel Adams Award" of the National Wildlife Federation.     To: Interested Parties From: GBA Strategies Date: September 9, 2016 McGinty Leads in Race for PA Senate; Philly Burbs are a Battleground A recent survey of likely voters in Pennsylvania1 shows Democrats with a slight advantage in the Presidential and Senate races. In the Senate contest, Democrat Katie McGinty holds a 5- point, 47 – 42 percent advantage over Republican incumbent Pat Toomey. A third party candidate wins 8 percent. This research included a significant oversample of voters in Philadelphia’s four-county suburban region (Bucks, Chester, Delaware and Montgomery Counties). A closer look at this region shows a real opportunity for Democrats. Voters in the Philly suburbs show a proclivity to split their tickets, producing a wide advantage for Hillary Clinton over Donald Trump in the Presidential race, but a much more narrow contest in the Senate race. The following are key findings from the survey: Democrats have slim advantage in PA. Democrats hold a 7-point registration advantage in Pennsylvania, as well as a 8-point self-identification advantage. This leads to a slim 49 – 45 percent advantage for a Democrat in a generic Congressional vote. Independent voters here are less favorable towards Democrats, giving a 9-point lead to a generic Republican. In the Philly suburbs, Democrats only have a 2-point registration edge, but they have a 6- point, 50 – 44 percent, lead in the generic contest. As a contrast to the Independent voters in the rest of the state, suburban Independent voters lean Democratic here in the generic vote (46 – 40 percent). Clinton winning the state.

    Introduction CeaseFire Pennsylvania 1 is the advocacy arm of CeaseFirePA, Pennsylvania’s leading gun violence prevention organization. We seek commonsense legislative reforms to reduce gun violence, stop the flow of illegal guns into our communities, and keep guns out of the hands of those who should not have them. We proudly work with mayors, police chiefs, and local, state and federal elected officials along with more than 40,000 citizen activists in cities and towns across Pennsylvania. CeaseFire Pennsylvania wants the public to know where the candidates for Governor stand on the issue of gun violence prevention. We sent a questionnaire to each official candidate in the gubernatorial primary to be held May 20. The questionnaire was designed to assess the candidate’s position on commonsense gun violence prevention measures and the level of importance each candidate attributes to reducing gun violence. Nineteen specific proposals were presented to the candidates. These proposals are based on judicial rulings about permissible regulation of firearms and ammunition and laws that other states have enacted in working to stem the flow of illegal guns and reduce gun violence. We analyzed the responses, and have prepared this Voters Guide, just as we did during the 2010 gubernatorial campaign. Four candidates 2 – all Democrats -- submitted responses – Rob McCord, Katie McGinty, Allyson Schwartz, and Tom Wolf. Their responses are provided and analyzed in this report. Significantly, each of the responding candidates expressed strong support for important gun violence prevention measures. Schwartz and McGinty unequivocally supported every proposed measure; McCord supported 84% of the proposed measures, and Wolf supported 79%.
