Midwest Conference - Indoor Track 2009 Performers of the Week Monday, August 06, 2012 Week #1: January 20, 2009 Track Josh Hurlebaus - Carroll University - Senior Hartland, Wis./Arrowhead Hurlebaus led the Carroll University men’s track and field team to a third place finish at the Private College Invitational hosted by Carthage College. He won the 55 meter dash and 200 meter dash. Hurlebaus clocked a time of 6.42 (posted a 6.41 in preliminaries) to win the 55 meter race then won the 200 meter dash in a time of 22.38. Jae Moore - Monmouth College - Sophomore Peoria, Ill./Notre Dame Moore got her indoor season off to a good start at last weekend’s Knox Pentangular. Moore picked up two individual firsts and ran on two winning relays. The sophomore clocked a 7.62 to win the 55-meter dash and broke the tape in the 200-meters with a time of 27.64. She also ran a leg on the winning 4x200 (1:52.30), finishing nearly six seconds ahead of the second place team, and 4x400 (4:17.46), winning by nearly 15 seconds. Moore also took her talents to the triple jump where she placed fifth. Field Max Bellmore - Ripon College - Sophomore Libertyville, Ill./Libertyville Bellmore was the lone Red Hawk to win an individual event at Saturday’s season-opening Private College Invitational. The sophomore placed first in the high jump, with a career-best jump of 6-05.50, as Ripon finished fifth out of nine teams in the meet. Gloria Lehr - Monmouth College - Junior Knoxville, Ill./Knoxville Lehr sent notice that she will be a force in the Midwest Conference. Competing at the season opening Knox Pentangular last weekend, Lehr threw a provisional qualifying mark while winning the shot put (42’9). The junior also placed third in the weight throw (46’8-1/4), just two inches out of second. Week #2: January 27, 2009 Track D.J. Jackson - Illinois College - Junior St. Louis, Mo./Webster Groves Jackson finished first in the 200 (22.99) out of 39 competitors and first in the long jump (21-06.75). He also finished second in the 55 (6.57) out of 40 entries, as Illinois College finished third in the Snow Bird Open at Jacksonville, Ill. file:///C|/Documents%20and%20Settings/weibelc/Desktop/2008-09%20ITF%20POW.htm[8/6/2012 8:56:05 AM] Midwest Conference - Indoor Track Ashley Graybill - St. Norbert College - Senior Delafield, Wis./Kettle Moraine Graybill competed at the Gladstein Invitational held at the University of Indiana and finished 5th out of 31 runners in the 400m Dash with a time of 59.13 and ran in the Invitational section of the 800m Run finishing in 3rd place with a time of 2:14.08. That time qualifies provisionally for the NCAA Meet and also broke a 15 year old St. Norbert school record. Graybill’s times in both the 400 and 800 are tops in the MWC. Field Zach Hopkins - Illinois College - Senior Chesterfield, Mo./Marquette Hopkins captured first place in the weight throw (50-03.50) and seventh place in the shot (44-11), which helped the Illinois College men to a third place finish, with 81 points, at Saturday’s Snow Bird Open in Jacksonville, Ill. Marva Goodson - Lawrence University - Sophomore Saginaw, Mich./Bridgeport Goodson won one event and took second in another to lead Lawrence at the UW-Whitewater Invitational this past Saturday. Goodson won the long jump with a conference-best jump this season of 17 feet, 6 inches. Goodson also grabbed second in the 55 meters with a conference-best time this season of 7.51 seconds. Led by Goodson, the Vikings finished sixth in the team standings. Week #3: February 3, 2009 Track Luke Reschke - Monmouth College - Senior Geneseo, Ill./Geneseo Reschke turned in his best performance of the season at last weekend’s Engineer Invitational at the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in Terre Haute, Ind. Reschke had a hand in three first-place finishes and turned in two Midwest Conference best times for the Scots who won the nine team meet. The senior clocked a conference-best and provisional qualifying mark while winning the 400-meter dash (49.65). He then turned in a league-leading time to win the 200-meters (23.02). Reschke finished the meet running the anchor leg of the winning 4x400 relay (3:23.67). file:///C|/Documents%20and%20Settings/weibelc/Desktop/2008-09%20ITF%20POW.htm[8/6/2012 8:56:05 AM] Midwest Conference - Indoor Track Jenny Scherer - St. Norbert College - Junior Delavan, Wis/Delavan-Darien Scherer won two races at the Northern Challenge held at Northern Michigan University. Scherer, competing against a number of Division II schools dominated the field in both of her races. She won the mile by almost 3 seconds in a time of 5:20.28. Scherer came back later that day to win the 3000m run by over 15 seconds in a time of 10:28.49. That time also breaks the school record at St. Norbert. Field Paul Leeman - St. Norbert College - Junior Appleton, Wis./West Leeman finished as the top ranked Division III competitor in both the high jump (6’ 2.75”) and the triple jump (44’ 5.75”) at the Northern Challenge this past weekend at NMU. Leeman finished 2nd in both events behind two athletes from Division II schools. His Triple jump is currently the top mark in the MWC. Marva Goodson - Lawrence University - Sophomore Saginaw, Mich./Bridgeport Goodson won the long jump and placed in two more events to lead Lawrence at the Carthage Invitational this past Saturday. She took first in the long jump with a leap of 18 feet, 2.25 inches, which makes her a provisional qualifier for the NCAA Championships. She has the fourth- longest jump in the nation. Goodson also broke one Lawrence record and tied another. She took third in the 200 meters in 26.94 seconds, breaking the school record of 27.05 set by Diana Ling in 1993. Goodson grabbed fourth in the 55 meters in 7.48 seconds, tying Ling’s record set in 1994. Goodson’s time in the 55 also is the fastest in the MWC this season. Week #4: February 10, 2009 Track Josh Hurlebaus - Carroll University - Senior Hartland, Wis./Arrowhead Hurlebaus broke a pair of Carroll University records at Saturday’s UW- Stevens Point Invitational. He set a new mark (6.34) in the 55 meter dash, breaking the previously record of 6.37 shared by he (2008) and R.J. Hoppe (1997). His 6.34 also earned him automatic qualification to the National Championship meet. In addition, Hurlebaus posted a 49.66 to break the previous school record of 49.97 (Adam Smiley/1997) in the 400 meter dash. Hurlebaus now holds the school record in the 55, 200 and 400 meter indoor events. Ashley Graybill - St. Norbert College - Senior Delafield, Wis./Kettle Moraine Graybill ran two NCAA qualifying times this weekend to help the Green Knight women to a 5th place finish out of 13 teams at the UWSP Invitational. Graybill placed 2nd in the 400m dash with a time of 58.52 and then came back to run a leg on the winning 4x400m relay. The 4x4 time of 3:56.94 was a new school record and it is the first time a SNC women’s relay has been on the National list. file:///C|/Documents%20and%20Settings/weibelc/Desktop/2008-09%20ITF%20POW.htm[8/6/2012 8:56:05 AM] Midwest Conference - Indoor Track Field Tyler Hannam - Monmouth College - Junior Woodhull, Ill./Alwood Hannam cleared a personal-best at last weekend’s Keck Invitational at Illinois Wesleyan University in Bloomington, Ill. Competing in the 13-team meet, the sophomore won the event by a full 2 inches after clearing a conference-best 6’6-3/4”. The height was a full inch higher than his previous best set in the first meet of the season and less than an inch from the NCAA provisional qualifying mark. Amanda Fendryk - Carroll University - Senior Coleman, Wis./Coleman Fenryk entered the Carroll University record book on Saturday as she set a new school record in the women’s weight throw at the UW-Stevens Point Invitational. Fendryk’s throw of 14.46 meters (47’ 5 ¼”) broke Amanda Johnson’s mark of 13.99 meters (45’ 10 ¾”) set during the 2002 Midwest Conference Championship meet. Week #5: February 17, 2009 Track Logan Hohl - Monmouth College - Sophomore Orion, Ill./Orion Hohl had the best meet of his season at Saturday’s Fighting Scots Invitational. The sophomore teamed Luke Reschke, Jacob Stott freshman Shane Reschke to run the nation’s second-fastest time in the 4x400 relay, winning the event in 3:19.82. The provisional-qualifying time was also a Huff Athletic Center record. Earlier in the day, Hohl ran the 55-meter hurdles for the first time this season, winning the event in with a provisional time of 7.61. The time was also a track record and Hohl’s lifetime best. Sarah Duchow - Carroll University - Junior Delafield, Wis./Hartland Arrowhead Duchow made two entries in the Carroll University records at Saturday’s Monmouth College Invitational. She tied a school record in the 200 meter dash when she clocked a 26.30 to finish second. She equaled the time set by current teammate, Melissa Roesch, set at the 2007 MWC Championships. Duchow then ran the leadoff leg of the winning 4 x 200 meter relay team which set a new school record of 1:46.49, topping the previous record of 1:47.43 set at the 2004 MWC Championships.
