Jacksonville right-handed starting pitcher and Marlins No. 3 prospect Nick Neidert (11-6) earned his Southern League-leading 11th win of the season, working seven innings where he allowed two runs (one earned) on four hits with a walk and six strikeouts. Pensacola right-handed starting pitcher Vladimir Gutierrez (9-10) took the loss, working six innings where he allowed five runs (four earned) on seven hits with no walks and seven strikeouts. The first pitch of the game came in at 6:38 p.m. local time, and Miami Marlins center fielder Lewis Brinson pounded it over the left field wall, with his leadoff home run giving Jacksonville a 1-0 lead. It marked the first time that the Jumbo Shrimp have started a game with a leadoff home run on the road as Brinson played in the second game of his major league rehab assignment. The Wahoos took the lead in the bottom of the third when Chris Okey powered a two-run homer over the left field wall to put Pensacola ahead 2-1. The Jumbo Shrimp started the top of the fourth with back-to-back singles by Justin Twine and Joe Dunand, and then on a grounder hit by Brian Schales just in front of home plate, a throwing error by Wahoos catcher Okey allowed both baserunners to score to put Jacksonville back in front 3-2. Dunand then took center stage in the top of the sixth, hitting a two-run homer to grow Jacksonville’s lead to 5-2. In the top of the seventh, Twine hit a two-run single to put the lead at 7-2, then Dunand homered again with a two-run shot to left to put the lead at 9-2, which would be the final. The game marked Dunand’s first multi-homer game of his career, as he went 4-for-5 with four runs batted in and three runs scored. The four hits for Dunand marked a career-high, while he matched a career-high with his four RBI. Twine’s hot hitting continued as he went 3-for-4 with four runs batted in as he extended his consecutive game hitting streak to 11 games. Brinson played six innings defensively in center field, going 1-for-3 at the plate in the second game of his rehab assignment. UPCOMING SCHEDULE AND PROBABLE PITCHING MATCHUPS DATE OPP. TIME JUMBO SHRIMP STARTER BLUE WAHOOS STARTER Fri. August 17 at PNS 7:35 p.m. ET RHP Dustin Beggs (0-0, 0.00 ERA) RHP Daniel Wright (6-8, 4.11 ERA) Sat., August 18 at PNS 7:35 p.m. ET RHP Cody Poteet (2-10, 5.81 ERA) RHP Wyatt Strahan (6-10, 7.09 ERA) NEWS AND NOTES Brinson Joins Shrimp on Rehab Assignment: Miami Marlins centerfielder Lewis Brinson has joined the Jumbo Shrimp on a major league rehab assignment. Brinson has been on Miami’s disabled list since July 4 with a right hip bone bruise. Prior to his injury, Brinson had played in 84 games for the Marlins hitting .186 with 10 home runs and 30 runs batted in, and he was Miami’s Opening Day centerfielder. On Tuesday, Brinson went 0-for-3 at the plate in the first game of his major league rehab assignment, playing the first five innings of the game in center field for Jacksonville. Brinson then homered for the Jumbo Shrimp on the first pitch of Wednesday’s game, and finished the contest going 1-for-3 while playing six innings in center field. Just in Twine: Justin Twine continues to swing a hot bat for the Jumbo Shrimp. Twine has hit safely in 22 of 23 games he’s played for Jacksonville. Overall Twine is hitting .430 (40-for-93) with four home runs and 15 runs batted in, and 14 of the 22 games he’s hit safely have been multi-hit games. He is currently riding a 10-game hitting streak, hitting .419 (21-for-47) and a hit today would set a season-long 12 game hitting streak for Twine with Jacksonville. Dunand for Duval: Joe Dunand enjoyed one of the finest nights of his career on Wednesday, going 4-for-5 with a pair of home runs and four runs batted in. The four hits set a career high, as did the home runs since it was his first multi-home run game. Three of Dunand’s six homers this year have been hit at Pensacola. Shrimp Have Prospects: On the roster, the Jumbo Shrimp have six players who were listed by MLB.com as Top 30 Miami Marlins prospects for the 2018 season: OF Monte Harrison (1), RHP Nick Neidert (3), OF Brian Miller (11), Joe Dunand (22), Robert Dugger (23), and McKenzie Mills. Three of these players came in offseason trades (Harrison, Neidert, Dugger), while Miller and Dunand were two of the first three players selected by the Marlins in the 2017 draft.
