NOTES OF THE NIGHT

The Flyers enter the game as the best faceoff team in the league at 57.4 percent. They have six players at 55 percent or better on draws: Scott Laughton (64.3 pct), Claude Giroux (63.0 pct), Jordan Weal (60.3 pct), Jori Lehtera (59.3 pct), Sean Couturier (57.8 pct), and Nolan Patrick (55.0 pct). There were only 38 players in the league entering last night’s games who were at 55 percent or better while taking 40 or more faceoffs; the only other team with more than two players on that list is Tampa Bay, which has three.

Among 135 players that have taken 40 or more faceoffs this season, those six all rank among the top 40. Laughton ranks second, Giroux ranks fourth, Weal ranks fifth, Lehtera is 13th, Couturier is 20th, and Patrick is 38th.

Since the NHL began tracking faceoffs as an official statistic in 1997-98, Saturday’s game vs. New Jersey was the first time the Flyers have won 44 or more faceoffs in a game while losing 16 or fewer. It’s also only the 10th time that the circumstance has happened in that timeframe across the entire league.

The Flyers have scored 30 goals on the season in nine games, which was ninth in the league entering last night’s games. They have one shutout loss in their nine games and another where they scored only one goal. They’ve scored 4.14 goals per game in the other seven.

Jake Voracek leads the Flyers in scoring with three goals and nine assists for 12 points, one ahead of Claude Giroux, who has three goals and eight assists. Voracek was tied for seventh in the league in assists, while Giroux was tied for 11th. Giroux has 33 shots on goal, which ranked 16th in the league; last year, Giroux finished the season ranked 97th in shots. Giroux’s career high in shots is 279 in 2014-15, when he finished the year seventh in the category.

Wayne Simmonds has six goals on the season, which leads the team and is tied for 11th in the league. Simmonds has had at least 24 goals in each of his six full seasons with the Flyers. In 2015-16, when he had his career-high 32 goals, Simmonds only had one goal in the first 13 games.

Shayne Gostisbehere has 28 shots on goal, which was tied for third in the NHL among defensemen.

Ivan Provorov leads the Flyers in average TOI per game at 24:59, which ranks 12th in the league.
