“The Saints Among Us” Carolyn Franzese Phillips, a member of the Communications Team, will be interviewing members of our parish and sharing their stories. We firmly believe that we can learn from and inspire each other. We hope that this leads to devel- oping deeper meaningful relationships beyond sitting next to each other at church. So, we are embarking on this series entitled"The Saints Among Us" where we can delve a little deeper, share insights and hear some uplifting stories. Online Giving All Saints’ has a new giving feature! You can now give online and through text. Online giving is linked to your “My All Saints” profile and can also be accessed through the Church Life app as well. As of right now there are only two options for giving, the general fund and the assistance fund. You can also give through texting – text SAINTS to73256 and include the dollar amount, this will automatically be deposited into the general fund unless otherwise specified. If you have any issues or questions, feel free to contact Hannah Crone in the church office 704-782-2024 or [email protected]. “Blood Done Sign My Name” A few weeks ago about twenty of us from All Saints’ s saw the one act play, Blood Done Sign My Name. The play tells the true story of the 1970 murder of Henry Marrow, a young, black Vietnam veteran and the impact of his death on the town of Oxford, NC. This single actor play provides us the opportunity to examine our own roles in the complex and often confusing racial fabric of America. St. John’s Lutheran Church in Salisbury, 200 W. 2017 Lenten Study Series: Race and Faith All Are Welcome to be a part of our Lenten offering, which is centered around the theme, Faith and Race and is scheduled for the first five Thursdays in Lent from 7 PM to 8 PM. In the vows we take at every Baptism and Confirmation, we promise to respect the dignity of every human being. We will examine if we are keeping that promise and how our faith guides us in racial issues. We intend to look at this from a Biblical and theological perspective. The first program in the series will be on Thursday, March 2. We will view a powerful and disturbing documentary film, “Traces of the Trade”. It is the story of a New England family who discovers their ancestors were at the heart of the North American slave trade. After the film, we will discuss its implications in our lives. Subsequent topics will include America’s historic response to immigration, police and race, the role of the church in the struggle for racial equality, and a series of video conversations on race Join the Lent Madness Lent Madness began in 2010 as the brainchild of the Rev. Tim Schenck. In seeking a fun, engaging way for people to learn about the men and women comprising the Church’s Calendar of Saints, Tim came up with this unique Lenten devotion. Combining his love of sports with his passion for the lives of the saints, Lent Madness was born. The format is straightforward: 32 saints are placed into a tournament -like single elimination bracket. Each pairing remains open for a set period of time and people vote for their favorite saint. 16 saints make it to the Round of the Saintly Sixteen; eight advance to the Round of the Elate Eight; four make it to the Faithful Four; two to the Championship; and the winner is awarded the coveted Golden Halo. The first round consists of basic biographical information about each of the 32 saints. Things get a bit more interesting in the subsequent rounds as we offer quotes and quirks, explore legends, and even move into the area of saintly kitsch. Cast your vote each day at Lentmadness.org

A huge Thank You to Robbo Williams who has retired from the position of Treasurer, for his service and commitment in this important service to our church. Our Youth are attending the Bishop’s Ball this weekend. During Bishop’s Ball the candidates for Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of North Carolina met with the participants on Saturday for questions and responses and interaction with the youth. Vestry Person of the Month: My name is Kay Boland. I was born in Illinois and raised as a Methodist in a little town of 800 people, Woodhull, Illinois. I have five of the best brothers. I moved to North Carolina 23 years ago to enjoy the mountains, ocean, and everything in between. I found All Saints' about 8 years ago when the Methodist church no longer supported my families spiritual needs. I currently provide foster care to a 10 year old and co-parent my grandchildren ages 11 & 13. Professionally I am a nationally certified Family Development Specialist & Career Development Specialist. I work with youth ages 16-24 who choose to work towards self-sufficiency by providing education and vocational training. I am proud to be able to be on All Saints' vestry & make a difference.
