PRESEASON ROUNDUP The New Jersey Devils concluded their 2019 preseason with a 5-2-0 record (10PTS), scoring 20 goals while allowing only 17. Will Butcher (2G-3A), Jesper Bratt (1G-4A), and Nico Hischier (1G-4A) led the club with five points each.

Rookie Jack Hughes (3) led the Devils in goals and finished tied for the lead for the most goals in the preseason for a rookie with Anthony Greco (FLA). Jesper Boqvist finished first among rookies for power play goals with two. Blueliner Sami Vatanen added four helpers of his own with a +6 rating in three games played.

Netminder Cory Schneider led all goaltenders with 100+ minutes of action in save percentage, stopping 118-124 shots against in four games played. Since returning last February, Schneider has posted a save percentage of .921 in 17 regular season games, .920 in six World Championship games, and now .952 in four preseason games (credit: Corey Masisak – The Athletic).

TONIGHT’S GAME vs. WINNIPEG JETS Tonight is the first of two regular-season contests between New Jersey and Winnipeg in 2019-20. In 2018-19, Winnipeg defeated New Jersey in the regular season series 2-0-0.

Jesper Bratt led the squad in 2018-19 with three points with three assists. Mark Scheifele led Winnipeg with five points (4G-1A). Connor Hellebuyk, and Lauren Brossoit split the two games against New Jersey. Hellebuyck allowed two goals while Brossoit let three dent his net in 65 minutes of action.

The Devils are 0-2-2 at Prudential Center and are 1-5-2 overall against the Jets since the 2015-16 season.

Tonight's opener starts New Jersey first of 16 back-to-back tilts for the club in the 2019-20 season. The Devils will head to Buffalo to face the Sabres tomorrow night. The Devils and Jets will match up one more time this regular season on November 5 at Bell MTS Place.

NIC-OT On Feb. 9th,2019, Nico Hischier (1G-1A) scored with 1:41 remaining in overtime to help the Devils overcome a three-goal deficit to win for the second time this season (also: Dec. 14 vs. VGK). The first-overall pick in the 2017 NHL Draft (20 years, 42 days) became the first player in Devils franchise history to record three overtime goals before his 21st birthday.
