Moment with the Mayor for 2, 2010

Free Disposal of Outdated Prescription Medications “Operation: Safe Return” Our Wadsworth Police Department and Medway Drug Enforcement Agency, working with Drug Awareness and Prevention, Inc., will be accepting all outdated and unwanted prescription medications from the public on Saturday, , 2010, from 9:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. at the Wadsworth Police Department. You may simply drive though the parking lot area in front of the police department, where you will be met by an officer. This program is completely confidential and no information will be asked. Please remove all prescription labels before arriving. Disposing of medicine in this way helps to protect our environment and lessens the chance of these medicines entering our water supply.

Finance Office Award Through the efforts of Auditor John Moss, Assistant Auditor LeeAnn Dunkle and the Finance Department, the City of Wadsworth was awarded the Certificate of Achievement Excellence in Financial Reporting by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA). This is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and reporting. You may remember an earlier column when I discussed the CAFR (Comprehensive Annual Financial Report), which is an in-dept look at all of the city’s operations and financial position. The CAFR, which was completed last summer, was judged by an impartial panel, where it met the high standards of the program. According to the GFOA, the report demonstrates a “spirit of full disclosure” in regard to the city’s financial history and in doing so, encourages potential users to read it. Receiving this award, which was presented to John Moss in a small ceremony last week, represents a significant accomplishment for our city.

Treasure Hunt! Downtown Wadsworth is currently organizing its first citywide Treasure Hunt in which garage and yard sales throughout the city will be encouraged. The sale will take place on Friday, 11 and Saturday, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. All residents may participate in this event. Downtown spaces will also be available to rent for only $25 for the two-day event! Special Treasure Hunt signs may be purchased for $10 each. This event will be advertised on local radio stations and hopefully will prove to be a popular event. Downtown Wadsworth Director Jack Ollom suggests that those interested may go to MSWadsworth.org for more detailed information.

Woodlawn Cemetery As the weather gets warmer, many residents visit the cemetery to plant flowers or decorate in some way. Our cemetery superintendent has offered a friendly reminder that prior approval is necessary, since maintaining the cemetery grounds becomes more difficult when there are additional objects around which to mow and trim. Please contact the superintendent by calling (330) 336-4718 before making any changes, or by stopping by the office at the cemetery.

Until next week…..
